    I named my hognose "Spaz". He will hiss, sometimes he becomes a pancake. Once out he is fine. He is always looking for food when I go into his enclosure.

    Mine is very calm and docile though yesterday I think I scared him. He hisses and bluff struck at me for the first and only time. He hadn't eaten in like 3 weeks and finally did yesterday. So that's good.

      I just got my first one this Saturday...yes I already want another one...and he ate tonight already. I'm so happy...that means I can hold him soon....can't wait!
      That's the hard thing about actually getting one! You wait to get one then you have to wait for them to get settled then once they eat then you have to wait to hold them so they don't regurgitate...
      But the hard part is over because he ate!

    Just got my 8 yr old daughter a hognose for her birthday. Albino female and I really appreciate this video! She absolutely loves snakes and knows everything about them and instead of surprising her I had to ask her what type she would prefer. Because honestly I have no idea and was only looking at the pricetag. Now I may be even more excited than her to raise little Miss Winter. She is I wouldn't say skittish but where's the exit and I'm going back under, wasn't in a hurry one found her hide. We haven't picked her up yet as we are only on day two. I'm defrosting a Pinky now. I believe she ate 5 days ago. Should we hold her before she eats or after?

    • @HogginOut
      @HogginOut  Рік тому +1

      A day after they eat you can hold them. Congrats on the hoggie and for sharing your story.

      @@HogginOut Awesome! One last question! When we go to feed her; if she doesn't eat, how long do we leave it there for her?
      They are small but I imagine they go bad at some point. Extra small pinky

    Is it possible that the skittish behavior will ever go away or is that something that will stick with a hog through adulthood? I got my hog almost a year ago and he was skittish and aggressive in the beginning. He's no longer aggressive and hasn't been for a long time now, but he's still super skittish even when walking past his tank. It seems like it's gotten worse ever since I started handling him a few months ago, because when I open his tank he bolts and he didn't used to. Also, if I get close to view him in his tank without opening it he hides, and he used to just look around back at me. It makes me wonder if I shouldn't have handled him, and it adds difficulty when trying to feed him lately. But as you said once I pick him up he is very calm. This video was reassuring that at least it's a normal thing, but I'm also hoping he will chill out with age.

    • @HogginOut
      @HogginOut  Рік тому +1

      In my experience, some of my hoggies do become more chill as they hit adulthood. I do have 1 female hognose, Autumn, that is still very skittish as you described... Walk past her terrarium and goes right to her hide, etc.. very very skittish still. I think holding them can train them to rid themselves of the skittishness and aggressive behaviors as they age.
