Compared with her previous performances where she sounds coarse and can't even finish the note even though the key is lowered (check the ones where she has the blonde hair), the ones in 2017 are a huge improvement
She’s got a lot of vocal damage from Maureen, Elphie, Elsa, and the many other roles she’s played over the years but still holy shit these are incredibly hard notes to hit, I’d like to see the untrained singers who hate on her for having to take the song down a key or two, or hate on her if she falls flat try this
Logan Kulbersh the reason she has vocal damage is because she didn’t/doesn’t have proper vocal technique ,because if she sung with a good technique the whole time she would be fine, damage only happens when you’re not doing something properly, plain and simple
@@nasirroper4011 nope. I will deny that everyday. It can also be used from over use of the voice which performing 8-10 times a week and hitting the notes she did in Wicked would do series damage to anyones voice.
That one was good! I feel like she's working on some of her issues with her belting and she's improving which is refreshing bc she's already a broadway legend and could just say f*ck it like some of these other artists
she's not a good singer lol. She has relied on screaming her whole career and now it's costing her her voice. She's pitchy af singing this, it sounds pretty horrible. This video really pains my ears.
I liked her D5s a lot better though. Some of them sounded even great, but damn she's just screaming those Eb5s :/ Also, have you done a video for "who sang the let it go high notes the best?"? Because I would love to see that! Keep the good job :)
1:32 here her vocals sound so damaged :( I really love her, but she has played such demanding roles over the years and she probably needs a vocal coach if she doesn't already have one
Tbh she does screamed the note but it was freezing out there. Singers should not perform in NYE they get such a backlash after that like they're not performing in freezing temperatures. I think she did got a vocal coach bc after that one particurly she improved a bit
D5 obviously works much better for her voice, the Eb5 is just too inconsistent, there are a few great ones, some decent ones, and one or two sound fully scream-like
Wow, 1:39 and 2:07 were perfect. Didn't think she was capable of executing it like that live. 2:07 especially sounded almost just like the studio version, the only thing missing was the vibrato.
This song isn’t easy for anybody. That last high note is very difficult! I can’t believe how wide Idina’s rang can get it’s crazy! Sometimes she is sick during a performance and it won’t sound right, but when she’s feeling good and if she’s up for it she nails it! Idina has ALWAYS been my idol since I was eleven years old. I hope I get to see her again one day.
She is amazing! Sometimes she nails it and sometimes it’s a little off. She is human and in all honesty the songs she sings require extraordinary superhuman stamina to do night after night. She also sings live all the time instead of miming like the pop stars of today
yes! I knew I wasn't crazy and had seen a video of idina slaying it in 2017 lol ! also thank you for finding the japan performance it has been long lost and I couldn't find it! amazing video!
+Mister Golightly I was working on a very similar video but since you did it and it is complete and amazing I don't know if I want to continue to make mine ! lol ps isn't the last clip a D5?
1:01 is the best one and she was sitting down! I think it was because she was in a more relaxed situation and having fun. The note should be D5. She does it amazing and it sounds better than an E5 flat. The E5 flats at the end sound good. I think she's good at D5s because Wicked has lots of them
Guys, that is a reaaallly high note to sing strong and the fact that she is able to sing it amazingly good in some of these clips proves that idina is an amazing singer!
I gotta say... I’ve been practicing to extend my range for a couple years now, making a little progress at a time and I finally hit this damn note tonight without falling falsetto! It sounds a bit rough but after seeing this video I feel better knowing Idina isn’t even that great at it lmao
1:33 She was probably sick that day, so that’s probably why her voice sounds so weird here. Because it’s New Years, who doesn’t get a cold during the winter?
She makes this sound super hard to sing, however if you just sort of mix it a lil bit and really engage your support it’s pretty okay. (No I’m not an extremely successful performer like she is and I’m not on broadway but I can sing a bit and that’s just what I’ve found)
She actually sounds better when she sings it in a lower key, I really feel bad for her in the Oscars performance where she sang it in the original key. *Favorite D5* - 1:06 *Favorite Eb5* - 2:08
She definitely struggled a lot with the note. You can hear it in the back of her voice. Also the way she ends the note quickly and uses vribarto at the "cold never bothered me anyway" parts
The D5s definitely sound a lot better for her. The Eb5s sound like she's having to scream to hit the note(which isnt good technique ofc).Im very happy to hear that shes getting a better technique the older she gets.
One thing i love is how everytime shes about to hit it she takes almost a second to prepare herself and whenever she gets to the note she does whatever she needs to do (jaw placement and faces) hit the note and hit it loudly(it is belting so it naturally would be loud)
I don't know, but I feel that in the movie version she was singing in D5, but they modified her voice to Eb5, because if you listen carefully, in all of her live performances, you can notice that her voice sounds a lot thicker. But I don't know, it's just what I think
The note in 2:07 sounds almost the same as the movie version. She hits high notes during her studio recording sessions. There's just something wrong on her technique that makes her inconsistent on hitting the Eb5 note.
If you watch some of the Frozen 2 documentaries...imma point out as an example which is a clip wherein she sang the chorus in Show Yourself on a higher key than the final version. So she definitely hit the E5 note in "all of my LIFE". It's actually unbelievable hearing her in the studio hitting those high notes (considering her age). It's just that there are different circumstances when she's performing live.
This is many times a choice though right? It's not that she can't hit it she is changing it based on the situation and conditions. Like how her voice is doing that day or when she is sitting , etc I like her D5 better but think her Eb5 is adorable. If you love her as Elphaba the scream will be endearing.
True... it's not that difficult to hit Eb5 in head voice, but she's trying to belt it and it's straining. I love Idina, I wouldn't be mad if she didn't yell the high notes, lol.
It’s high but it’s not that high, and soprano should be able to belt it. It’s called bad technique and lots of vocal damage. That’s what happens to Elphabas with bad technique.
Nik Hoover A mezzo soprano is something between alto and soprano, but not a soprano. But you are right, even a mezzo soprano should be able to hit an eb5.
To be honest I like more her note D5 I mean she is one of my favorite singers but the note Eb5 is not for her so In my opinion D5 is the perfect note for Idina ;) The 0:45 was the best :)
Honestly, her improvement with this note is amazing!
Mister Golightly Couldn't hear anymore. Lol. But yeah she got better.😀
where? lol

D5 is so much powerful than E5, she is better with D5 ...
N B I think it's because she was Elphaba and Wicked has lots of D5 notes
yaaaaaassss D FOR DELAWARE
Yeah, that's true. But I can't hit it though (I have to use the falsetto) 😅 My vocal range does not let me do it with my chest voice.
Eb5
@@andreaguerramario5172 you can mix it and still make it sound powerful.
Some of these sounded like straight up screaming to be honest.
Sophie .Jayne not her D5s, her Eb5 here

Carlos Alejandro Alvarenga most of her D5s are as well. She shouldn't push her chest voice so high. Mix damn it.

i know absolutely nothing about notes and stuff (even though i play 3 instruments), but i think that d5 suits her voice better than eb5
Her best high notes was obviously at 0:45, 1:03 and 1:08. D5 is probably her strongest, note now.
No. At 1:08 you can hear her voice cracking towards the end.

Mister Golightly oh yeah you're right. Your vocal chords shrink in cold weather and she did sound a lot better after that.

Belting is screaming but singing (that how I tell people when I say I’m a belting cuz it so hard to explain)
The shaking is vibrato, it's an intentional inflection.
