Kait, I just wanted to tell you this: In one of your videos you mentioned how much you love the rom&nd melting lip balms. Well, I am now addicted to them! I've bought 3 so far and I can't wait to buy more colors! I have extremely dry lips that peel constantly, and this product is AMAZING! Omy gosh they last long, and the title is so right on, because they literally melt into my lips and I've never heard of this brand, I'm so happy I found them! I just recently found your channel and I'm so thrilled about this product, thank you so much! 😘
@@lesliedemarco1691 Yay! LOVE those, but I actually prefer the Nature Republic Honey Melting Balms - they're glossier and more long lasting. I feature both products in this video if you want a comparison: ua-cam.com/video/0aKip-AnbLM/v-deo.html
I feel like the UA-cam community is just one big advertisement for beauty brands. I miss when beauty tutorials were the popular thing. Remember the old Michelle Phan aka Ricebunny tutorials? 😢
Yeah me too because I actually need those tutorials now, when I'm learning to do my own makeup... and I mean real, in depth tutorials. Not a hyper-edited-1-cut-every-second reel/short/tiktok with no explanations
I learn more from "decluttering" videos on YT than any other kind. Thinking of how much waste is produced in the makeup and skincare stream - just on UA-cam! - is quite a lesson, better than any tutorial.
I miss when content creators did this simply as a hobby. I don’t begrudge people an income but since UA-cam became a full-time employer for a lot of people, the commercialism has changed the quality of the content.
The number 1 thing I’ve been trying to do is following “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. My skin care routine works great when I’m consistent with it, same with my hair care, and my makeup. There is always a push to buy the next best thing, but I already have the current best thing for me.
Totally in sync with you! I fell into the crazed UA-cam makeup-buying era. It was my first realization that there was makeup beyond what I saw at the drugstore lol. BAAAAAD time to discover UA-cam. Now, I have come to realize that I don't like to do complicated eyeshadow looks. I don't like bright colors even though I'm told how AMAZING they are. I'm a barely-there, all-neutrals gal. I don't wear anything but the Dr. Jart Cicapair color corrector and a few dots of concealer, and eyeliner. Not even mascara!. And I NEVER will wear all the gorgeous, $$$ full-pigment lipsticks (Tom Ford, Dior, Chanel) I bought that make me feel like Ronald McDonald . :) I only wear sheer, cool-toned glosses and balms now. I am super happy with my decluttered, minimal collection that I actually use. Maybe a cool-toned, mauve product appeals now and then, but otherwise I look at Sephora and don't want a single thing. YAY FOR MEEEE!
You are my inspiration to do the same❕ I got so entangled in the UA-cam beauty community, that I would feel ugly unless I had the latest expensive thing. I’m over it lol.
@amandaleigh3307 good for you! I was so enchanted with all of the gorgeous products and the way that influencers' skills made them look that I wanted to do that too. The problem was my lack of skills and the fact I felt like a clown when I wore a lot of color, particularly on my lips, duh. :) I'm glad I found out what works for me, just regret that I wasted so much $$$ getting here.
Omg I found my perfect beauty UA-camr. I love tube mascara, I use same tretinoins, same make up 😂. I have same skin issues. I love that you don’t push products, respect yourself and your audience. What a breath of fresh air. Educated, well articulated, serious woman 👍🏻.
I usually always have one (1) single backup on hand of my holy grail products in case I run out before I've had a chance to buy more, but recently a couple of my favorites got discontinued, and it made me realize that reliance on a specific product is a terrible thing. No amount of hoarding is going to prevent products from expiring, and it's better to remain flexible and know which ingredients, rather than which products, do the most for you. Not to mention skincare needs and goals change over time.
I just found you am so excited to find a channel that isn't constantly trying to convince us we need to buy new things. So many other influencers are selling out to adverts. Thank you for bringing more integrity to beauty online!!
I appreciate the anti-viral beauty comments. You can see when one revs up on Tiktok - EVERYONE is pushing it. It's so easy to get caught up in it but then you end up spending so much $ on so many products that you can't possibly even use them all (and many aren't meant for you, as you say)
I have to say Kait your "negativity" that people post about sounds like common sense to me. I agree with so much of what you said in regard to disappearing cream blushes, foil shadows that look bad on my wrinkly hooded eyes, lip oils that make my lips drier, sheet masks and primer's I never reach for. I refuse to buy any more matte lipsticks that dry the crap out my lips and require a gloss over them in order to use them. Like you I live in a small house and I no longer have room for more stuff, so I don't buy backups of makeup. The only things I buy as backups on sale are skincare products ( 3 items) I use religiously year after year and then I only buy one. That will get me through 1 year till the next time they go on a big sale. This video will help me really limit what I will buy during the Sephora sale or Ulta's 21 days of beauty.
People post about her being negative? Perhaps they are being negative posting about people being negative. I don’t know what’s going on these days but some people are getting all twisted up in their thinking. There is nothing wrong with disliking something. I’m speaking in general not at you. It just isn’t healthy and not well adjusted. Imho I don’t buy blush that isn’t a nude or a bronzer . I never liked blush on me and I feel uncomfortable wearing it. I never buy primers or mascara that isn’t a tubing. I don’t but colorful bright indie eyeshadows or super shiny metallic ones. It’s just not flattering on me.
TOTALLY AGREE on the lip oils. I bought the Clarins lip oil and could not figure out why so many people were raving about them. They are not comfortable! And then the pigment slides everywhere on some. The clarins pigment is quite dilute. Great video as always. I loved the please leave video. ❤❤❤
You are absolutely not negative, and I’m offended on your behalf! Genuineness is so lacking on UA-cam that ppl mistake it for negativity. You’re my fav beauty tuber❤️
I used to be really vulnerable to LE marketing and what really broke me out of the mindset was how often the products I'd rushed to buy got rereleased or added to the permanent product line. I could have waited and bought them anytime--or given myself the time to really think about whether I actually wanted or needed them.
Thank you Kait for this, I really needed to be reminded that I don't need to buy more stuff when i have soooo much already, things that I like too! It's so easy to get carried away and tempted to buy new products... I emptied a shopping cart that I had filled... did not need any of it! xxx
My mum had three lipsticks, which she'd also use as blush. Ponds cold cream (used as cream cleanser and moisturiser), 2 quad eyeshadow palettes, powder compact, mascara, eyebrow pencil and about 3 favourite perfumes. That was it. And she always looked polished and beautiful ❤. All products either Avon or Estee Lauder. Perfume was Arpege (Lanvin), Lair du temps (Nina Ricci) or Youth Dew (Estee Lauder). I wish my vanity was that uncomplicated. I'm Looking to seriously reduce my makeup collection and stick to the products I know, love and trust from now on.
I had no idea that Cicapair line had had a viral moment. I've been using these forever, they're wonderful on my normal-to-dry, rosacea prone skin. I still use the foaming cleanser and tiger grass serum, and the intensive repair mask is a godsend on the rare occasions I'm breaking out. However the moisturizers irritated me. Really goes to show everyone's skincare needs are different and it makes no sense to think there's any such thing as a one-size-fits-all product or routine. It's so important to know what actually works for you rather than relying on virality and on influencers or celebrities who may be incentivized and/or have completely different skincare needs & goals than you.
My list of what I’m not buying anymore is pretty much covered by what you said haha. No more backups: I find my tastes and needs change sometimes before I can use them all up, so I’m better off not buying them. If I ever run out of a favourite before “the next sale”, I have enough stuff that my second favourite product will do just fine until then. Something must go before I buy something new: I have a lot of skincare and makeup already, so my rule is that I have to use something up before I buy a new thing in the same category (e.g., foundation). Sheet masks: I don’t find them very impactful. I would only buy them if it was for a fun skincare/spa party with friends, not as a serious investment in improving my skin. Eyeshadow palettes- I’m generally a no-makeup makeup girlie so the Mac palette with like 12 shades of brown is all I need besides some singles.
I've tried SO HARD to implement the 'something must go before i buy something new' rule, but with the amount of PR I receive it's impossible to keep my collection down. I'm always decluttering and sending products to friends instead. If I were a normal consumer I would do that too!
I got on a sunscreen kick last summer and was watching UA-cam and the algorithm got me 😂😂. I started buying so much sunscreen and what’s bad about it is a lot of them have an expiry date coming up soon. I bought mostly from Amazon and didn’t even think to look at the expiration dates. Now I have tons on sunscreen that is about to go out of date and have no idea what to do with it all. Never again!!
Thank you for keeping it real, Kait! I can definitely relate to what you’ve pointed out in this video. My mindset has changed quite a bit now that I’m in my 30s. Less is more! I stopped using primers, setting sprays, concentrated serums, and I don’t need viral products that may not be worth it. I’ve also decided that I want to pay more attention to indie brands/small businesses. They can put so much more effort into perfecting their products, and that is well worth it compared to brands that release new products almost every few weeks.
Yes! I figured out this years ago with eyeshadow. My eyes are SO hooded that there's no point in doing anything other than a wash of color over the whole lid. I don't need pallets with all these different shades of a million different colors. I have like 3 single eyeshadows that I choose between (if I even bother with it at all). I haven't bought an eyeshadow pallet in probably 8 years. It just doesn't work for my eye shape. You can only see my my eyelids for a millisecond when I blink. Lol
Right there with you on mascara and sunscreen! I’m also really picky on those categories and once I find the one or two that work I’ll stick with them!
I like to use the Patrick Ta's technique of blush layering, that is the only way to make my blush last honestly. This was an amazing video, the more time passes by the more I realize I need less
I never needed primers or setting sprays in my 20s, 30s or 40s - I felt exactly the way you describe. As I’ve aged, I’ve gotten deeper hollows under my eyes, so I use more concealer than I used to, and the texture of my skin there is changing so I do experience creasing. I started exploring primers and setting sprays, and they help a lot. I think these are examples of products that are marketed to everyone even though they aren’t really necessary for a lot of people.
I have been feeling like I'm the only one who avoids tiktok for beauty (shopping), youtube is so much more thorough. I am super picky about ingredients, and I need to know everything about a specific product! Just found your channel, and I agree with you on pretty much everything. I just had to subscribe.
You are a breath of fresh air! This video came on after one I was watching, I didn't know about your channel, was doing something around the house and was listening, then heard you talk about tik tok and viral products, came to sit down and really paid attention to you. Love your honesty and really relate to what you are saying. So I've subscribed, gonna check out your other videos😊 Thanks!!
I just came across your channel and am delighted! Your sensible, honest and researched approach stands out head and shoulders above most influencer’s “hype and opinions.”
I truly appreciate your thoroughness and the specificity with which you give your stamp of approval. I have a lot of things I feel that align with what you like in a product and your texture, flavor and scent descriptions are so helpful. I understand many people are on you about your “negativity” but I think there should be more influencers like you - making discerning content on products and bringing their perspective to products. People use products and individual people make products personal, they form attachments and use them day to day. I always feel bad that you preface your explanation for why you get on UA-cam and talk about opinions because you have every right to do that. And those who criticize have every right to silently leave. It’s not that deep. Thank you again ❤
Thank you! The amount of angry comments I get about how 'negative' I am is baffling to me. I don't understand why people perceive me that way! Don't we have enough influencers who say they're "obsessed" with everything?
@@StateofKaita lot of people truly don't want reviews or rational opinions they want affirmation that throwing their money at stuff they don't need and won't use is the right thing to do! Treat yo self, girl math and other nonsense are the mantras of the shopping addicts. People want to buy whatever the heck it is because it's about the shopping and 2 seconds of happiness
Yes I’m inspired! I for sure don’t need more eyeshadow pallets. I’ve decided to go more simple and love your suggestions in this video. Thank you Kait! 😊❤
Thank you again for your blunt honesty. What a fresh and intelligent approach. I am 100% in agreement about lip oils. I don't understand why so many lip products are actually drying, the opposite of what they purport to do! UGH! The Bobbi Brown lip tints are my favorite products. No smell, subtle color, decent longevity. I must watch your lip balm video, though.
Preach sister! I came onto my makeup journey on the back 50 and there are so many products I’ve bought that don’t work for me because of the lizard brain over-wanting. It’s challenging to watch and not buy but you are a voice of clarity and I will watch this video again. And then again. Thanks as always for your beautiful work.
I spent literal years looking for the perfect medium-brown, yellow-based nude for my skin tone. I finally found it in the sephora collection during last year's sale, and i am so happy. Now when i see a possible competitor, i let myself go through the comparison process (because I'm a nerd and find it fun) but I never buy. I've found the best and don't need the rest.
Omg thank you, I feel so validated. Specifically primers, lip oils, and sheet masks. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills whenever I see sooo many people gushing over them, both online and IRL.
Just recently found your channel and I feel like you are the UA-camr I’ve been searching for!! I love that you have high standards and remind me to keep the bar super high for introducing new makeup into my collection. Also you are a relatable corporate + beauty queen. ❤️
I appreciate your honesty and thorough reviews! Great point about the sunscreens and not liking the same ones as your friends and then having a second thought about any new ones that seem enchanting❤
Your honesty is so refreshing! I have the same sensitive skin type as you, and I have felt so pressured by anti-aging BeautyTok to purchase products that my skin hates. Thank you for deinfluencing the hype and reminding us to reconnect with what feels right for us. ❤
Hey, Kait. I’m from Brazil and really apreciate that we have content here on youtube that’s not about buying new and trendy products, which is not the reality for most people. Please don’t stop ❤😂 sending love from here (Sorry for the mispronounced words 😅)
You lucky if your favorite is still in production. I lost some because of changing the formula (lancome), loosing my favorite brown (benefit) or purple (bourjouis) i don't use black and i have some clear requirements. Never easy!
I am a long-term tretinoin and clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide user - I no longer buy scrubs or chemical exfoliants. I saved a lot of money buying 8 oz tubs of fine microdermabrasion crystals and I use it with a cleansing balm. It works better than anything else, and my cell turnover is so fast that my skin looks terrible and clogged if I don’t exfoliate with this daily. Also, French sunscreens are way better, and occasionally using a stabilised Vitamin C is nice (my favourite is a brand from Whole Foods). Slugging nightly with Egyptian Magic Cream is great too. Dr Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream and Quince Day Cream are both really wonderful. Jao’s Goe Oil is incredible and I always love Yves Rocher Monoi Oil and Nuxe Huile Prodogieuse.
Kait I will always watch your videos because you say out loud what my brain tries to tell me makeup heart lol. Since discovering your channel I have finally figured out that it's ok to not like something because you know you have a weird ick that will prevent you from using a product. Also I am totally with you on the lip stuff. I much prefer a thicker formula, but my 13 yr old daughter prefers thinner ones (except the nyx fat oil, only one we both like) which got me thinking... millennials grew up with lip smackers and they were so thick and came with amazing scents! I think that's where we got our love of thicker lip formulas! Keep up what you do. I love the in depth reviews and prefer your harshness because so many won't do it. Love your channel and will always watch your content!
Just found your channel and love watching all your videos! Love that you are picky and give your honest opinion. Beauty products are expensive and I don’t want to waste my money!
I loved this video! Congrats on your viral moment, you deserve it and many more! You provide some of the best content and I really appreciate your candid and authentic approach 💕
I just ran into this video during the Sephora sale. I am so glad I did! It really helped me put what I need and don’t need! Into perspective. This video was super helpful. Also, love your content! 💖
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched and I absolute LOVED it. I feel like you’re candid and transparent to the point of almost opinions and I am HERE for it, so thank you. You’re awesome and I really appreciate an influencer (UGH-that word !) who’s not just here to make me be a super consumer. I’m an oncology nurse at a major cancer center and I love that you’re knowledgeable about skin health science and don’t buy into all the trendy BS. So you definitely have a new follower. Thanks
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel. Your honesty, integrity and thoroughness in your reviews is amazing. If I had to give up watching youtube your channel would be one of the two or three I would miss. Thank you for your hard work. ❤
I appreciate you explaining why using primer on a physical sunscreen can lead to problems. I feel like every physical sunscreen I've loved doubles as a primer and a color corrector as well. The only chemical sunscreen that doesn't leave me dewy is the Haruharu Wonder. I have to apply some color correcting primer where needed. They have a physical sunscreen too which I plan to try next. Well done, Kait!
Thanks! There are water-based mineral sunscreens that work great with primer and don't pill, but I always feel that watwer-based sunscreens make my makeup look horrible. Maybe my favorite foundations are also silicone based, that may be the issue. Either way, I just don't need a primer!
I am so glad I found your channel! I miss Beau-tube! I cannot do this short form mess for makeup and skincare. I need to see product use, wear testing and initial reactions, not just a bunch of cutesy jump cuts that are really just ads and ads only. Plus, I'm too old for TikTok! And I'm going through debt resolution, so I need to curb my spending. Your vids have been a godsend, and what I needed to hear as a recovery product junkie!
When you have a sunscreen you don't like use it as a back of the hand sunscreen in the car that's the only way I've used mine up or last resort as a beach/pool body sunscreen
I recently came across your channel and I must say i love it! It’s so refreshing to see someone honest and natural when talking about makeup and beauty products. I am so sick of all of these overhyped kids “obsessing” about everything which they received in PR packages. I am looking forward to watch your future videos! 😊
This is such a wonderful video!!! Thank you so much for your refreshing touch!! My hates are eyeshadow palettes and mascara( itches my sensitive skin) and palettes are a waste of money!! I love the MAC eyeshadow singles & Ulta too. That way I don’t get stuck with a whole bunch of colors that don’t flatter me!!
I have very similar skin concerns to you (too sensitive for any strong serums, can’t use chemical exfoliants but I love tret). The ONLY sunscreen that works for me is Elta MD UV Clear or UV Daily in the winter. I can’t stand my sunscreen feeling sticky or thick and I like a natural/matte finish. The SPF rating is 43, so pretty good. I used to wear the sunscreen from Paula’s Choice that you mentioned before I found Elta MD (from working in a derm office). Loved your take on this video! Your content is so refreshing and I appreciate all of the effort you put into it!
Love your honesty. It is so appreciated. Still trying to find a mascara that I love. Tubing mascara does not seem to want to come off my lashes! So frustrating. No more primers or sheet masks! I get migraines so I have to be careful about the chemicals in products that go on my skin. I’ve switched most of my skin care to Korean skincare products.
You rock as usual! I am in that mode also, that is to optimize my beauty product purchases - especially for environmental purposes. It is absurd the amount of plastic we throw in the landfills for the sake of vanity. Another UA-camr did a video on the decluttering of her products earlier this year and I was sincerely revolted. I am new to this community as I only starred to get interested in makeup at age 60 and this is a whole new world to me. OMG! Does one really need 25 highlighters? Really? In terms of holy grail I can comfortably say that my favorite and best eyeshadow for work is the Dior Couture. Yep! It is at a good pricepoint and it does not move nor transfer after a whole day in the office and no touch ups are required. Once more thank you and your hard work is paying off Kait. Keep it up!
Huge congrats on your other vid hitting such good numbers! So well deserved!! There are two channels i consistently recommend to friends who want to watch beauty content from someone honest, relatable & intelligent. You & Amanda Z. I love you both for the exact same reasons. Not only are you honest, relatable, intelligent & grounded, but youre both an encyclopedia of makeup & skincare info. It's interesting because I live in both the creative/artistic/indiemakeup world & "everyday" "wearable" drugstore/mid priced/luxury sometimes/kbeauty world. What i say is that i love ALL makeup, from my usual everyday brown mascara, grey or brown baby wing, sparkly (usually cool toned neutral) one & done eyeshadow, lip balm (or gloss or liquid lip balm), & nude blush to the most avant-garde, high concept art you can imagine & everything in between. I will say, I think you should give yourself a tad more credit, your makeup skills are sublime & i always look to you for recommendations & 100% trust what you say. I've yet to pick up a single product based on your advice & hated or even disliked it! 🤌💜
I’m so glad I found your channel! I’m binge watching everything. Finally found a channel I love. Love your honesty and transparency. You’re a refreshment to the beauty industry. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
These are really thoughtful selects! Liquid glitter shadows and dewy sunscreens are a hard pass for me too. I never buy backups due to lack of storage as well, aside from the Neutrogena Hydroboost Skin Tint because I'm constantly scared it'll be discontinued lol. I'm not a chemist, but have worked on several sunscreen projects, and it may be hard to find an SPF 50 mineral sunscreen that's lightweight, matte (but not drying), and wears well under makeup! It's just hard to formulate something lightweight with high zinc content, even with added boosters. Anyway, the best SPF 50 I've found is the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Liquid Sunscreen. However, it is a little heavy in my opinion so not the BEST for under makeup, but they do market it that way so I think it can work under some complexion products. - Britta
I love your makeup philosophy, I have adopted a more natural/minimal look myself as I am getting older. It just looks better on me now. I would love to see a video with all your one and done eye shadows, as we have similar skin tone it would be good to see how it looks on you, what your recommendations are etc... Thanks. Hugs from Belgium (Europe)! 🙂
Kait, yesss. I am definitely the same with mascara preference. When you said it never flakes or smudges and basically a lazy girls dream mascara I'm with you on the thrive. I've had my subscription to their mascara for 5-6 years and it's the only mascara I use. So you do have a mascara preference twin! I think your channel needs more love because of how hard you work and how refreshingly honest you are. I don't understand how you're not getting 100,000 on most of your videos I really enjoy your content and you deserve all the likes from that video. Since discovering your channel you've helped me save so much money because we have a many of the same preferences! I kept finding myself saying "Yes, exactly!!" I don't think primer does anything, I haven't purchased any in years, or lip oils or chemical exfoliants (same thing every time really bad reaction to my sensitive skin) I also purchased both the Moira shadow and the liquid Bodyography blush in soul you recently recommended and I'm loving both so so much. Thank you! Much love ❤
Amen to this video. First time in 3 years I’ve heard any smarts and common sense in beauty UA-cam. Also, I’ve questioned many products and practices like how can primers or foundations look good for hours over sunscreens which are usually greasy or heavy? Metallic liquid shadow sounds like a bad idea if one just thinks about it. Beauty consumers need to get smart.
need these sort of reminders to remain conscious when shopping. as i can get swept up in the hype of a fun product way too easily. personally, i love lip oils but i don’t need to buy any more because i have 4 and there’s no need to have every shade of a more sheer type of product 😂 we definitely need to be honest with ourselves about whether we’ll actually get decent use out of something before purchasing. i’m also like you in that i can’t stand rose or mint scented lip products, so even though the product can look perfect, if it has those scents, i’ll get very little use out of it. and with eyeshadows, i’ll be critical to try not to repeat what i already have and won’t buy a palette if i can’t see myself using more than half the shades.
Wow, such a useful video!! I like BLACK PEARL creams, great effect, although they can be hard to find. I personally get them from Dead sea shop, where the discounts are nice.
Oh - this video hit home for me. Especially since I spent the last year getting into makeup for the first time. I have bought enough eyeshadow palettes to know that only the most basic ones speak to me…and, in the end, they all look the same! So why do I need 10 of them??! You are so great and so inspiring. I don’t understand why every one of your videos doesn’t go viral. Thanks for all of your hard work!
First of all, I think you are awesome!!!! Your channel is my favorite. Second, I totally agree with you on the mint and floral lip products. I should not buy them because I just don’t like wearing them. Great advice!
Boy, oh boy, do I agree. We all get stressed that we are missing out on something… then waste money time after time to keep up… I needed this reminder.
Thanks Kait! I found you while I was looking for skincare declutter videos. Great video. I love your voice and confident tone. New subscribers ! Now off to look for your video on all the 50+ lip balms you reviewed.
It’s really funny how different people are and that - at least in my opinion - most influencers ignore that. My lips hate lipsticks but love the oil 🙈 I was so happy, when brands started to come out with colored oils because this is what works so perfectly for me
I love that there are so many dermatologists online now to educate us regular people, they have really changed the game 🙌 I stopped buying any cream makeup because I feel they go bad faster than powders (unless it’s an everyday product) I stopped buying eyeshadow palettes and only buy singles or mini palettes, I never used to before because I always thought it was bad value for money (which it is) but I found large palettes in general I never use up before they go up ……..plus minis are travel friendly and super cute
If I don’t like the fragrance, I don’t like the product and I don’t enjoy the regime. I am a fragrance junkie. If it smells too “cheap” to me, I won’t buy it because I won’t use it. I actually like a lot of strange scents. I will suggest this because I found it is the perfect primer/sunscreen, BoJ serum sunscreen. I think it is 50++++. It has a slight scent upon application because it has jasmine actives. The scent disappears almost immediately. I really appreciate your desire to pare down. I have a full basement and a special makeup museum storage area. I like having a visual reminder of special occasions and wonderful makeup eras. I have really pared down my daily makeup routine and my evening ritual is simplified. I don’t need the complexity in my life. Thank you Kait, this was a great check list. There are so many great tips embedded here.
Just watched your comment about Dewey Sunscreen. Like you, I have combination skin and live in a very humid area. I have very sensitive eyes and not all SPF 50 sunscreens work for me. I feel that they all leave my skin very greasy. However, I tried the Etude House Airy Mild Sunscreen SPF 50 PA+++, and it has been my holy grail for over two years. Even though I have tried other sunscreens, this has been the only one that, first, controls my oil, second, does not harm my eyes, and third, does the job I expect. It’s Korean and very good, highly recommended. It is 100% mineral.
I feel you on all of these!! The only thing I have excess in is mainly lipsticks and perfume. I have stopped buying cheek products and eyeshadow palettes because I use the same ones all the time. When it comes to lip balm, mascara, etc. I just buy the one, if I don't love it, I just use it up and try a new one so I don't waste anything. If I have a favourite product, I usually stick to it. As for primers, I just use my thick moisturizer and I mix the ELF Halo Primer in with my Neutrogena Mineral Sunscreen, one is too dark and one has a white cast, mix them together and its the PERFECT everyday base no foundation needed.
Yes to the chemical exfoliants!! I use tret and sometimes a weaker retinol in between tret days, but that is all the active ingredients that my skin needs
Exactly! If I weren't a UA-camr I would be MORE than set with all of my makeup. It's such a push and pull between being the consumer I want to be VS having a review-based UA-cam channel.
Great video! On eyeshadows i feel the same way. I also love my Róen quads and with them feel like i actually have almost all of my eyeshadow needs met. But in general I’m not into palettes anymore. Smaller quads are all my brain can handle to think of a look early in the morning before work lol.
Your Video popped up on recommended Videos, 10 mins into the video i had to subscribe, you are one of the very few beauty Community youtuber who knows what she's talking about, be it formulas, and recommendations ❤
I really appreciate your honesty, it is hard to find it on any media channels these days. I agree your opinion about TikTok, which I find unreliable at all when it comes to anything. I also found out that powder blushes do not fade on my skin, metallic eyeshadows are not flattering, lip oils are waste of time and money.
Totally agree with you. Save your money. I wish when I was young that I would have done the tried-and-true. They are inexpensive and I would be in a better financial place in my old age. Serums- I use Snail Mucin (love it). I also love cheap ol' sugar cane squalane. I found I don't need it anymore though, so its off the list until I get super dry again. Retinoid - I use Retin-A and Adapalene. Love them both. I did buy a whole year's worth of the Retiin-A though, because the pharmacy at costco was $33.00 a 45g tube! So, it was worth it to me to get it done in one fell swoop. Chemical Exfoliants - none other for my face, BUT, I do use Amlactin for my body twice a week. My feet and body skin are fantastic now. Super cheap. That and exfoliating gloves in the shower, and my skin is so soft. No more flakes inside my leggings--ewwww! Eyeshadow - I won't buy palettes anymore. I only like a couple of colors in the palette. It's a waste. I do mattes and then just pat a shimmer on the lid. Mostly my eyelids have a lot of color that people think is eyeshadow anyway, so I often go without. Backups - Ugh, I mostly don't, because if I have a ton of backups and something new comes out, that's a no for me until I use the other stuff. I did however get a deal on 2 mascaras of the kind I use (Caliray), so they are in the fridge until I need them. That's 6 months worth of mascara! I used to like Thrive, but I like this one better. And of course, the backups of Retin-A. Lipbalms - I have my plain faves. buy about 2 per year and they get me through the whole year. I do buy a clear cheap lipgloss that I like. Note: if you use flavored or scented lip product, you are more likely to lick your lips and make your lip condition worse. Something to think about. Sunscreen - I want to try the Korean sunscreen you spoke of, but I use the Drmtlgy Clear Sunscreen, and I do love it. It's not as good as Elta MD, but it's a lot cheaper. I wear La Roche Posay sunscreen on my body. Cheap and works. Viral Stuff - That's just a no from me, especially when they are given the product free or renumerated for their review. I do review for a company, but I am so picky, they almost never get a great review. I do like beauty youtube. I don't do tiktok. Primer - They are a waste. Honestly, if you've moisturized and sunscreened, it already acts like a primer. I bought one, and I will NEVER again. Makeup Artists say, "just moisturize!" Setting Spray - I have one, top of the line. I won't buy those again. It's pointless. Maybe for a special occasion. Lip Oil - No. A waste. My old lips are a no for this. Sheet Masks - No. It's a waste. I have liked the Charlotte Tilbury one, but it's a no due to price to performance overall. Tanning - I don't care if I am ghost white. I want to love the skin and hair that I am in. Cream Blush - I do use 2 of those, under a powder blush, but my skin is OLD. I'll take your advice on the ones that last. Makeup: The quality of light changes around the globe. Different colors look different around the globe. My makeup changed farther south I lived. The cosmetic industry is trying to talk us into something NEW and IMPROVED. Pretty much nothing changes that often. It's just a junk drawer waiting to happen. I know NOBODY cares about my list, but thanks for letting me share too.
You may like Sun Bum Mineral Tinted Face Lotion Spf 30. It's only 30 Spf, but it is quite matte and makes skin look absolutely poreless. I use it as a foundation primer. It is packaged in a squeeze tube. The beauty part is that it's not a chemical sunscreen. Maybe you could top it off with a foundation with a higher Spf to get to Spf 50.
I really appreciate this video and it’s making me really reevaluate my makeup drawer. I have my favorites that I’ve been using for ages and I don’t know why I bother buying additional products that I already know I won’t like as much. I don’t find your reviews negative AT ALL, I love that you’re honest, it’s very hard to find so I now watch only your vids to find out about products Also, I am so over cream blushes, I swear they are never going away and are everywhere we look but they last 5 mins on me and I’m soooo sick of them!!
My goodness, you are just mesmerisingly beautiful. It's just good for my soul to see a woman who has natural lips, not to mention your teeth....awww, my heart is singing. I think there's nothing nicer than a beautiful smile 😁 You are just stunning. Your makeup is perfection too. Just wanted you to know I appreciate you. Gaynor, Northern Ireland, 🇬🇧
Just came across one of your videos...now im binging between calls! Lol you are a breathe of fresh air!!! Love this! ❤️ (also tret user and I really need to do this! I dont use half of what I buy! I need to make a list and cut things out
Greetings from Canada! I agree with your views! Lip oils, tanning products, face primers, etc., etc. - I see all of these products as failures on me personally and unnecessary expenses. I’ve really trimmed back, simplified my personal routine, and have taken the approach of less is best. What’s wrong with having one holy grail for each category of makeup? Thanks for a great video!
I still buy pretty much all the things on your list, but it makes total sense to me why you don't! We have different experiences, maybe different skintypes and life styles. So it just makes sense our beauty routines would differ too. I'm actually the complete opposite to you in regards to eyeshadows, meaning I'm done with singles! Because I always use at least 2 complementing/matching shadows in different shades that I blend together, even for a natural look, so buying palettes just makes a lot more sense to me as I don't wanna drown in 50 shades of singles. And I'm still on the hunt for the perfect nude palette, with one purely black shade, a dark and matte warm brown, a shimmery bronze in a medium tone, and a super bright shimmery ivory. That is my go-to look. I almost always use those 4 shades in combination or 2 or 3 of them so it would be fantastic if there was a palette that had all 4 of them. I would say my makeup skills are probably in the advanced category though. I do a lot of cut crease and stuff. At least for eye makeup. My base makeup skills are definitely subpar lol. I don't even know how to put on my concealer correctly. I can totally relate to your obsession with rose-goldeny eyeshadows though! I'm the same with shimmery bronze, which is a very similar color, just it's warmer cousin. That said, since you asked, one thing I've stopped buying is matte highlighters. Because my skin is so pale the only thing notably lighter is paper white, but that looks ashy on my skin because of the lack of undertones. So I've finally learned that my highlighters have to be shimmery to not be a waste of money. Because shimmery reflects light it can look brighter than white, even if it's actually light beige. And thus I nowadays only buy shimmery, super bright (but still with some undertones) highlighters. And yeah, these do exist, but are typically labelled as eyeshadows. You know, for the inner corner and stuff.
Great video, the 1st i watched was' Beauty trends I want to die in 24', I'm known for going overboard on buying makeup and skincare and I've more than I can use, so recently I'm actively trying to not get sucked in by all the influences and ads I see because I am being so wasteful! Trying to use what I have rather than the next new thing as it's not smart to keep consuming

@@StateofKait Oh bummer I didn't know that!!! I'm gonna check it out now!!!
@@lesliedemarco1691 not a bummer, they’re both amazing products!! Just wanted to recommend another that’s shinier and has a glass-like finish
@@StateofKait OK I see it on Amazon I'm gonna get a couple!
I hate that some Influencer’s are “ obsessed” with a product and you never heat about it again😮
"Literally" obsessed
What they are obsessed with changes every week
I feel like the UA-cam community is just one big advertisement for beauty brands. I miss when beauty tutorials were the popular thing. Remember the old Michelle Phan aka Ricebunny tutorials? 😢
Yeah me too because I actually need those tutorials now, when I'm learning to do my own makeup... and I mean real, in depth tutorials. Not a hyper-edited-1-cut-every-second reel/short/tiktok with no explanations
Hi do u watch Nikki Larose? She's an excellent teacher n mua
I learn more from "decluttering" videos on YT than any other kind. Thinking of how much waste is produced in the makeup and skincare stream - just on UA-cam! - is quite a lesson, better than any tutorial.
@@lisaerickson9510 I do watch her! And I agree
Wish I could say the same. Will let your comment inspire me❤
That's amazing!!!
You can do it!!
Thank you!
Your brutal honesty and straight forward reviews are the exact reasons why I LOVE and SUPPORT your channel! 🎉 love you Kait! 😊
You're so sweet, thank you!
Not to mention skincare needs and goals change over time.
those are really good points :))
I just found you am so excited to find a channel that isn't constantly trying to convince us we need to buy new things. So many other influencers are selling out to adverts. Thank you for bringing more integrity to beauty online!!
You’re welcome!y channel values are honesty and integrity and I’ve been committed to them for almost years here ❤️
I appreciate the anti-viral beauty comments.
Thank you!
😅I hated that lipoil!! I liked my affordable one from Revolution in a rollerball much better. Texture was nicer and application easier as well
I live in a very dry climate. Clarins lip oil is just saving my lips....
You are absolutely not negative, and I’m offended on your behalf! Genuineness is so lacking on UA-cam that ppl mistake it for negativity. You’re my fav beauty tuber❤️
I really needed this because I’m easily influenced and love shopping which is a deadly combination!! Thank you!!
Happy to help!
I emptied a shopping cart that I had filled... did not need any of it! xxx
Completely agreed on backups! Or the "next" one (for example, a new vitamin C to try) if I'm not actually running low. I don't need it!
This part is so so hard...
@@Maya-iu3nz Agreed! Especially when things are on sale.
I still love Estée Lauder. Whenever I want to look my best (not sexy or hip-just pretty) Estee is my go to and it always works.
I want to discover small and indie brands too but it seems there aren't any in my country or that ship to my country 😢
I’ve used them through my 20s when it was going to be hot or I’m likely to get hot (dance) but other than that not necessary.
I have been feeling like I'm the only one who avoids tiktok for beauty (shopping), youtube is so much more thorough. I am super picky about ingredients, and I need to know everything about a specific product! Just found your channel, and I agree with you on pretty much everything. I just had to subscribe.
Awww thanks for the love!
Wow, thank you so much!
Awww, you are so welcome!
Thank you so much
Exactly what I've been thinking, but presented in a far more organized way! Thanks.
That's a great mindset
Omg thank you, I feel so validated. Specifically primers, lip oils, and sheet masks. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills whenever I see sooo many people gushing over them, both online and IRL.
Love this video! I’m on a low buy and it’s really helping me to enjoy the items that I already have.
I'm so glad to hear that!
sometimes I watch old reviews/favorites videos of my products to satisfy that desire

Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel :)

Love you girl, I agree w all of these, but I love myself some creamy stick blush + the "wet" look, not overdone tho, just dewy cheeks
Hey, Kait. I’m from Brazil and really apreciate that we have content here on youtube that’s not about buying new and trendy products, which is not the reality for most people. Please don’t stop ❤😂 sending love from here (Sorry for the mispronounced words 😅)
thank you!
I’m with you on the thrive mascara! I FINALLY have quit trying others all the time and just realized my search is over and I only need the one. ❤️

Wow, what a compliment! Thank you.
Your content is so interesting and precious!
Thank you so much!
I love brutal honesty because then I know that person can be trusted.
When you have a sunscreen you don't like use it as a back of the hand sunscreen in the car that's the only way I've used mine up or last resort as a beach/pool body sunscreen
Yup I’ll use it for when I do gel nails 😅
I recently came across your channel and I must say i love it! It’s so refreshing to see someone honest and natural when talking about makeup and beauty products. I am so sick of all of these overhyped kids “obsessing” about everything which they received in PR packages. I am looking forward to watch your future videos! 😊
Thank you!
So happy to have found you on the sephora sales day. Thank you for deinfluencing me!
I’ve switched most of my skin care to Korean skincare products.
amen on primers! appreciate these conscious consumerism videos ❤
Thank you so much! It's an honor to be mentioned alongside Amanda!
Just adore your content. Thank you for videos like this!!
I’m so glad I found your channel! I’m binge watching everything. Finally found a channel I love. Love your honesty and transparency. You’re a refreshment to the beauty industry. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
Oh wow, thank you!
- Britta
Oh totally, I'm very aware that it's not possible to develop the SPF 50 mineral sunscreen I dream of in my head. One day maybe!
@@StateofKait One day for sure!
Thank you! Much love ❤
Thank you!
@@StateofKait You're welcome.
Beauty consumers need to get smart.
need these sort of reminders to remain conscious when shopping. as i can get swept up in the hype of a fun product way too easily. personally, i love lip oils but i don’t need to buy any more because i have 4 and there’s no need to have every shade of a more sheer type of product 😂
we definitely need to be honest with ourselves about whether we’ll actually get decent use out of something before purchasing.
i’m also like you in that i can’t stand rose or mint scented lip products, so even though the product can look perfect, if it has those scents, i’ll get very little use out of it.
and with eyeshadows, i’ll be critical to try not to repeat what i already have and won’t buy a palette if i can’t see myself using more than half the shades.
Wow, such a useful video!! I like BLACK PEARL creams, great effect, although they can be hard to find. I personally get them from Dead sea shop, where the discounts are nice.
what a refreshing video - much better than deinfluencers who still ask you to buy other products, you keep it real!
Thank you so much!
First of all, I think you are awesome!!!! Your channel is my favorite. Second, I totally agree with you on the mint and floral lip products. I should not buy them because I just don’t like wearing them. Great advice!
Thank you so much!
Thank you!
It’s really funny how different people are and that - at least in my opinion - most influencers ignore that. My lips hate lipsticks but love the oil 🙈 I was so happy, when brands started to come out with colored oils because this is what works so perfectly for me
Exactly, everyone has difference preferences!
I love that there are so many dermatologists online now to educate us regular people, they have really changed the game 🙌
I stopped buying any cream makeup because I feel they go bad faster than powders (unless it’s an everyday product)
I stopped buying eyeshadow palettes and only buy singles or mini palettes, I never used to before because I always thought it was bad value for money (which it is) but I found large palettes in general I never use up before they go up ……..plus minis are travel friendly and super cute
I really appreciate your honesty and enjoy watching your videos. It’s helping me with my impulse buying! 😊
I loved this... I need to stop feeling like I need the next best thing and use the ones I've got! 💜
Smaller quads are all my brain can handle to think of a look early in the morning before work lol.
exactly!
The self-control you have…you def have my respect. I am so weak when it comes to pretty makeup 💄
Your Video popped up on recommended Videos, 10 mins into the video i had to subscribe, you are one of the very few beauty Community youtuber who knows what she's talking about, be it formulas, and recommendations ❤
Oh thank you!
Thank YOU for saying the things going through my head and also helping me stop spending unnecessarily!! ❤
Makeup Artists say, "just moisturize!"
Setting Spray - I have one, top of the line.
I don’t find your reviews negative AT ALL, I love that you’re honest, it’s very hard to find so I now watch only your vids to find out about products
Also, I am so over cream blushes, I swear they are never going away and are everywhere we look but they last 5 mins on me and I’m soooo sick of them!!
Thank you so much, means the world
My goodness, you are just mesmerisingly beautiful.
Thank you!
Just came across one of your videos...now im binging between calls! Lol you are a breathe of fresh air!!! Love this! ❤️ (also tret user and I really need to do this! I dont use half of what I buy! I need to make a list and cut things out
Thank you!
Thanks and greetings from California!
That’s fantastic, keep going! The more you practice control, the easier it gets. It’s like a muscle.
