  • Painting neutrality stripes of the Swiss Air Force from WWII on a 1:72 scale RS Models Morane Saulnier MS.406 model kit converted into a D-3800. The D-3800 is a Swiss indigenous Version of the MS.406 and I had to do a lot of research to understand the details, color tones and conversions of this unique type of WWII warbird.

What is your favourite place to get reference photos and / or information about your model kit builds? The internet, some books or other material?

You have the patience of a saint, with all that masking work. Nice finished plane.

Since the construction phase was short on this simple build, i had enough time and patience left to make it happen.
      Thanks for the feedback!

It takes a lot of masking to get there, but its worth it for what i know!

Very nice result with a short run kit. I like the Swiss neutrality markings and MS.406 is one of my favourite aircraft. I have a RS Model MS.406 and a D. 3801 in my stash. All of these MS.406 and Doflug kits have the same plastic, so 3801 won't be any more accurate if 3800 has some inaccuracies. How was the build? No major issues? By the way makes more sense the Swiss names for RLM 70 and 71.

Nice to hear about your old-school research. I think scale models are not being researched as well as they used to be, especially the ones presented on UA-cam. The source of research isn't important - personally I have stacks of books I have bought since the 1970s, but there is great stuff online too - as long as you go beyond the box art and find out how things really were done. Your build came out beautiful, as well.

I think its important to put your own research in, that’s what makes it special! It could become a rare skill in the future i guess.
      Thanks for the feedback

what makes a man turn neutral?

What a philosophical question. First neutrality needs to be defined. Even within my country there are very different views about what it means to be neutral

I gotta tell you that when there is a LOT of masking to do, it’s easy to want to take shortcuts to speed things along, and this is where dumb things happen - when we ( I ) lose patience. You did a great job though, and stuck with it. Take a bow.🫡. In between the Slow Horses book series, I am reading “De Havilland Twin Boom Fighters”, published by Crowood. Good photos, and a history that the writer has made interesting. I’ve got a de Havilland Vampire as my next build, and this book was a great find.

The further i got during the paint job, the less i wanted to mess up all my previous efforts, the more i masked the entire model to safe the work😅

@@RustyscaleShow That’s a great attitude to have. It would benefit me (us) to keep that in mind when working on a kit.
