    Thanks for the review. I am re-entering the hobby after a long sabbatical, and there are just to many paints on the market to get my " old skill and style of building back. The popular acrylics just art working well and I keep investing in new brands that aren't performing well either. I don't understand why people are so fascinated with Vallejo. Tamiya is not bad but doesn't thin down for spray . AK is my next attempt, after this I may go back to Enamels but everything is made acrylic. I don't mean to ramble , however I see some other comments that reflect my impression of today's paint choices. Oh , I've never had to use this black pre-season coat before either it seems more of a fad than effective and will distort the color balance.

    I think weathering will be theatre specific. Desert environments can also abrade paint finish as well as dust. Jungle will have more rust due to moist and warm conditions. European theatre would have some dust due to all the rain 😂. But you’re right no one would fly a plane that wasn’t air worthy. The losses were too great to loose extra pilots due too poor preparation. Great topic well considered

      @@chrisveya7556 I own a hobby shop and sell the Vallejo for $4 Canadian(.23 cents per ml, and with the new 18ml bottles, brings it down to .22 cents per ml). Thanks for the review of the Hataka Red Line! I haven't tried them yet, but I have tried the Hataka Orange line Lacquer paints and liked the semi-gloss satin shine they gave. I've since moved away from them, as I found the paint chipped easily, even with a coat of primer down. The colors were not bright as you experienced with the Red line, but the colors were a little suspect to my eyes. I also noticed when I used Mr. Leveling thinner that the color sometimes would change hue in the airbrush if left for a few minutes. So you had to use it all right away or mix it up in the color cup when it separated.

    • @chrisveya7556
      @chrisveya7556 7 днів тому

      I also like the satin look the red line paints get when completely dry, i asume its even better with the laquer line. I’m an old guy so I’m a big fan of the old smelly enamel paint. The biggest issue I have though with the new acrylic paints is the color it self. It does seem as though the research isn’t being done. A good friend of mine produces True North Precision Enamels and he researched official government paint chips from several countries for two years before he produced his first paint. They are very accurate from U.S. federal standard colors, German RLM colors, British naval colors…. The list goes on. I struggle with acrylics as it is I wish they could at least try to get the color correct. Great video as always sir you never disappoint

    I did a comparison between AK3G, Ammo, Hataka and Lifecolour using early WWII RAF colours. Hataka sprayed well but it's colour tones were the least accurate of the 4. AK3G was best spraying and for colour. I've just got the RAF Early WWII set from ATOM. I already know that they spray very well and give a lovely finish, but looking at the colours in the bottle, they look way out to me. Then again as the two major colours are re-purposed ('brown' for dark earth and 'IJA Nakajima Green' for dark green) that's hardly surprising.

      I've used Lifecolour and Hataka and was happy with them both, but preferred the Lifecolour RAF colours. Just looked a nicer satin finish. Found the Hataka easier to lay down though. @@chrisveya7556 Yes AK have done a lot of work for the Real Colour range; I used to use these before I switched to using only water based acrylics. With AMMO, not exactly - they haven't tried to palm them off as something different (they are still labelled as the original colour), they seem to have just included them in a set as the nearest match they have. The colour choice in the RAF Early WWII box is a bit odd too. Sky doesn't look too bad but it's labelled Sky Green - there was no such colour officially. And they've included 'Duck Egg Green' which again wasn't really an official colour - just a descriptive colour of Sky; until supplies of Sky became available, I'm sure some local mixes would have looked like AMMO's Duck Egg Green in early/mid 1940 - but AMMO would have been far better off putting in Black (fighter spinners and props and night bomber undersides) and Grey-Green (all aircraft cockpits).

      @@chrisveya7556 Yes, but also pigment defects. I have a Zero in 1/48 and a Bf 109F in 1/72 both with pigment defects in the decals. My thought was if Eduard had improved their decals recently? I personally think that one of the best things about Eduard's kits are the many decals options.

    There exists no shortage of rudimentary model kits for builders who don't want to be made uncomfortable by challenging details. The idea that a detailed kit kills creativity makes no sense. There's not a kit in the world that includes every detail, and there are endless options for creativity in presentation (vignettes and dioramas). And of course there are also abundant opportunities in how a kit it painted unless the builder thinks weathered builds are "usually unrealistic" and therefore should be avoided.

      @chrisveya7556 8 днів тому

      Well i see it the opposite way, a less detailed model kit is more challenging because you have to add them details yourself and this requires a certain creativity. On the other hand, i think a highly detailed kit provides everything you just have to assemble it. It maybe takes more patience yes, but in my experience less creativity is needed, if everything is provided already.

    Haha, I got "Like" #72! So happy to get this tease, there's not much info out there yet. I ordered this set, the 8th AF set, and a bunch of Overtrees to use up decals but they are not here yet. At least I can watch you enjoy it.

    wow, what a kit. Not for me, but i do appreciate the fabulous moulding and wondeful extras. I could not do such a kit and give it justice. Cant wait to see your efforts later. I'd rather buy the kit and not a fancy box. Besides, Eduard never builds enough kits for the industry, ( kits safe out of stock before they hit the market) they give away most of their kits to video makers like you , I seriously doubt this is 30 Euros. Too many parts and accessories even if you do get to kits. 1/72 kits are too small for this kind of commemorative kit, plus P51 just like Spitfires murderers come a dozen. Not impressed , plus don't pay for Eduard kits anymore because you have more parts left over after the build which is. Ridiculous I'd might like it if it was given to me than buy it .

      @@chrisveya7556 I don't know which Eduard site you're looking at , it shows discontinued, every model website in the USA show it preorder around $80.00 before freight, some $60.00. So if it is discontinued or not even available or in a pre order status - how did you get your kit. It really doesn't matter because Eduard has turned into a bait and switch company and they think they are the only game in town - I will never buy from them again. There are better companies.
