- There's nothing better than a tasty unlimited buffet when you're hungry for...anything and everything. And while this is typically an occasion when it's best to take leave of your senses and feed, we're sad to say that your trip to the buffet may make you vulnerable to various illnesses. That's right; while some buffets are clean and fastidiously maintained, others simply aren't. From too-low temperatures to food that sits out too long (not to mention all sorts of potential issues in the kitchen), buffets have more vectors for disease than the average restaurant. Here are gross things you never knew about eating at a buffet.

Are you a fan of buffets?
Yes.
Yes I am
Yep
Nope!
I actually puked when she said “fecal bacteria”
If Buffets are so dangerous how can they still be in business?
I've eaten at buffets since I was little, and I haven't got food poisoning or suffered from food allergy cross-contamination.
This channel sometimes praises and sometimes criticizes this is one of those critical video.
I eat at a local one all the time, it's highly rated and usually packed, and you can see them bringing fresh stuff out. Never got sick from it. Depends on the place.
I too never got sick before from eating at any. I have eaten at quite a few. Mostly in Las Vegas & cruises though. I try to actually wait until a new batch of food comes out. You can tell when they will refill it because it is very low or hardly any food in it. So I figure wait for new batch which will probably be safer. Also I like it when cooks make you stuff there right on spot. So many times I have been to buffets where for instance they'll make me pasta with sauce right then & there or they'll make me crepes....or tacos. That way you know it's freshly made. Actually at buffets, once I saw a lady grab a food item with her bare hands and then put it back. I didn't say anything to her or the staff. I should have though. I was kind of in shock though. Certain people don't think about germs though. I also can't believe 66% of people don't wash their hands after they use bathroom. That's just gross. That is why I don't trust people to have the same good hygiene as I do. I seriously feel like smacking those people in the head that don't wash their hands. Gross azz muther fcks.
I ate at buffets before and some are good while some are bad.
@@boohere2 Yes the Hibachi-buffet hybrid places where they choo it and grill it in front of you are pretty safe tpo. Worst one I ever saw was one where you reach into a freezer and scoop your own ice cream, that's just a giant salmonella culture.
Very true because a regular restaurant can also be just as gross & unsanitary
Hometown Buffet and the Pizza Hut lunch buffet were the only buffets I liked & neither exist anymore. 🙃
6:52 "Ready to go to dinner babe?"
"Yeah hun just putting the lemon wedges in a to go container" 😂🍋
A buffet from my hometown shut down to dead animals in trash cans
oh my goodness sakes!🤦🏻♀️
It’s great to hear and learn about what’s going on where you eat.
Thumbs up Always 💕The person who is reading this comment, I wish you great success, health , love and happiness 💖
You say this like it changes my mind

I worked (work) at a restaurant through the vast majority of the pandemic. We are a VERY trendy restaurant and because of that and the desire my boss feels to get more money they added 8 tables to our second floor there was maybe a foot of space between all 19 tables. And also I was the only employee who wore a mask once the mandate was lifted and I got covid from working there…… restaurants in general aren’t always as safe or cleanly as the seem and should br
Meh idk about the us but where im at we have really strict health safety rules.
well we might have strict rules in the US too, but not everyone follows the rules unfortunately
I recently visited my local Golden Corral buffet, and immediately after eating my meal, I walked outside and promptly threw up as soon as I walked out the door. Needless to say, I will never eat anything from Golden Corral again!
That was quick!!
The last time I was at sizzler, I saw a guy use the serving utensil as a tasting spoon. Plus, all the feral children running around putting their grubby hands on everything 🤮
@@davidb8373 America is dying, isn’t it??
You were sick from something else.
@@davidb8373 feral children hahaha 🤪
I've managed restaurants for four corporations. What's in the food is important, and you never know what might be in it. If you're afraid of what employees might do, don't. Whatever they do that's a prank is doubtless harmless. Now, what is all-important is how the food is handled. Temperatures are everything. I only got ill twice, both times by bad food handling. One was the 'eternal buffet'(food put out again and again) and the other, a product stored above the chill temperature required.
I agree … I worked in the restaurant industry and employees are not that bad as people may think.
I only like the Old Country Buffet,Golden Corral,Chinese Buffet
I've ate buffets forever early or late and have never gotten sick from the food before. I pay a little more attention to some foods but mostly they're all safe at the right temp.
Once at a Shoney's in San Antone (it closed last year after decades - the last one in Tx) I was getting some syrup out of the big thing of it on the buffet and served up a large plastic serving spoon that was submerged down in it. Kinda grossed myself out when I thought of all the hands that had must have been touching it lol. Put that out of my head as I still planned on more food (BACON!) I got my syrup on my mini pancakes and wasn't sick. MISS THE ALL YOU CAN EAT BACON! yum yum yum
PS if anyone knows of a good buffet in Austin that has the BEST Bacon, let me know :) :) Thank you!
Thanks for wrecking the one place to publicly eat out at.
It wasn't until I got older that my husband and I have noticed all of this. Shoooo!
The best way is to eat there regularly then you build up an immunity to the bacteria
lol
😳
BARFFET
🤮🤢🤮🤢
Anyone else notice the hair in the food at 0:39 🤮 she ate it too
Buffays = Bacteria, Big Bellies & bloated Bowels...LOL
This video is bs.
Especially the dirty plate thing.
The owner of the Chinese buffet I worked at would literally yell at us for not getting customers dirty plates in a timely manner.
These Vids are not to be taken as The Gospel Truth lol it's just their opinion. With food in general, it's just better to be safe than sorry. I really don't care for puking or getting the shits.
I do know this all that food that you don't eat that's on your plate that goes back to the kitchen hey check it out it looks okay the heat it up again and put it back out on the buffet remember that when you eat at one
That's not true lol
The Chinse Buffet I worked at was the cleanest restaurant I've ever been in.
If there was a plate on a table where not one thing had been touched we dumped it in the trash.
I don't know where you've seen people reheat food from peoples plates but I think you're trying to be shocking.
@@marisachambers6192 I'm a retired chef and I know what goes on oh my goodness wake up girl
@@danielspeedy6972 a retired chef that worked where??
@@marisachambers6192 oh my goodness that's like asking me if I robbed that bank I was a chef for 35 years and I own my own restaurant establishments did you actually watch them carry that garbage can out to the garbage bin after they rifle through it my goodness girl wake up
noooooooo that can't be true! Used to work at a fancy restaurant as a bus boy and saw the waiters taking dibs on who was getting the half-a-steak left on a Customer's plate! Early 80's things were different then lol.
Oh hell nah no
More buffets for me 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
IF you have dietary restrictions, Probably shouldn't be going out to restaurants in the first place and making your own meals that you can eat......easy enough!
My e-coli protects me from salmonella!
This makes me not want to eat out at buffet restaurants anymore!
A 1999 report? That was 23 years ago. Surely practices have changed since then... Well hopefully anyway lol
😠
Suck it up buttercup I'm still hitting a good buffet.
lmaoo
We're
Shit yeah buddy

Reeeeeeeeeeee Reeeeeeeee
There is only one buffet left in town and they are really strict. I went to the Golden Corral when they were still open and the staff all acted like coiled up rattlesnakes. I wouldn’t want them angrily slapping food on my plate and making bitchy comments. Yikes.
Why must you ruin my life!!!
You wanted to be clean. Stay home and cook for yourself.
I definitely don’t mind eating food left out for more than an hr this video is crazy talk. Food that’s stored and put out again the next day is still ok to eat, not all buffets are luxurious to be putting out food like that.
One day your ‘luck’ may just run out.
Are they still doing the coronavirus thing? I thought we were done with it.
Luckily, I rarely eat out… Due to Covid, buffets are now feared by people.
I do not eat left over food therefore I do not eat at buffets ever.
I hate buffets & potlucks
Things I don’t like at all you can eat buffet you got customers that don’t wash there hands 🙌 and you got customers that are deliberately poisoning everyone food by plucking boogers inside the food like mashed potatoes or anything that you would want to eat and people that go take a dump in the toilet and take a sample and put it in the refried beans 💩🤮🤮🤮 oh yes they do that and there’s no gloves most buffets don’t supply gloves to put them on your hand to pick up the utensils or the plate or the big old spoon with tongs for portioning your food everyone else’s hands that I explained earlier in my comment you can get bacteria botulism all kinds of nasty viruses to make you sick 🤮🤮🤮 have you ever wondered when you ate form a Call restaurant in Buffet that you noticed that you start throwing up or have diarrhea and you start feeling not well it can even be fast food restaurants that make you sick
Stop your hate for buffets.
Seriously, "A 1999 New York Times report...", you/your researchers can't find any newer studies? Really?? It's year 2022, and this (sorry a$$ed) channel and the producer "proudly" cites a study from 20+ years ago? 🤦♂️
The only thing grosser than this video is this narrators voice.
Annoying as hell.
Pfffft what a load of crock.
