This channel has got to be one of the best DIY based channels on youtube, very knowledgeable man,
Totally agree
Too kind!
Very knowledgeable indeed . He's a structural engineer. 👌
14:40 gave me a good chuckle 😎
Love the card trick, thought that was my shoddy 'get out' clause! Ha! You just validated it.
Educational with subtle humour.
The best way to learn 😁
Thank you
"...and here's some marks I made earlier..."
Whoopee - Barry Bucknell lives... ;-)
I love your nonchalant ending. Please keep it up - I find the deadpan comedy a blast
Handy tip for soldering wires, stagger your joins leaves a less bulky join, and also means that they can not short together if the heat shrink ever gets damaged (sadly, does happen).
@@grotekleum sounds like the sigh of experience?
@@grotekleum and cable the same grade.. if its sniggering, show it who's boss ;)
The biggest money saver is using your other half's credit card for spacers.
We're on similar paths. I did my new build garage a month ago, replacing the solitary pendant with 3x 40W LED battens, I can see why you'd choose 6500K for filming but generally 4000K is a bit easier on the eyes.
The next biggest improvement to make is paint the brickwork, helps with the lighting and feel of the space.
Actually 6500 is daylight colour 4000k is nearer tungsten light bulbs. Either can be used for filming, you just need to set the camera. 6500k leds are brighter than 4000k ones, and give a more clinical feel to the eye, also gives a more accurate colour judge, but can seem harsh.
4000k is a warmer look to the eye, slightly less brightness (inherent to all led lights) but can be easier to work in. Checking the colour of paint, or a,stain for example, may need to be checked under the light they will be seen under when completed.
Either can be used for video, just set the camera white balance.
Also not bad to have k-adjustable LEDs, at least in an area where you can test for color.
I always learn something new with you. Love the trick with the soldering iron, clamping it 👌 just brilliant 👏.
Thank you
A bit like a table saw then
Thats what i thought to. You always need three hands with soldering. Never thought of that trick
@@newscotlandtv I know! I do pyrography and have the blisters to prove it lol 😆 . But dealing with electrical issues is a pet hate of mine. I borrowed a hedge trimmer from next door. But to my horror the cable was cut and held together with sellotape. I repaired it before using it with her consent. It's just so fiddley 😒😏
Reminded me of the 'Only Fools And Horses' luminous paint in the Chinese kitchen, love the content very informative and great sense of humour.
I was thinking exactly that. “What have you done to my kitchen?” Haha
Can we expect an affiliate link to the Donkey Don playing cards? Dead useful.
I saw these lights used on another video and brought six with a three year warranty (luckily) within eighteen months all six had blown, but they were all replaced without issue. I am now preying that these six last a lot longer. Can you let us know if & when yours fail. Great Videos by the way.
Thank you. I've been using 6 of these for 3 years and 6 for 18 months with no problems so far
Great Job! Happy to watch this channel grow and see so many of the old video topic come back. 🙂
Another great video. It would be interesting to see how you wired these into your lighting circuit. Another video perhaps 🤔 😀
Interesting approached to your video lighting, looks great.
I’ve got mine on a PIR sensor so they come on when I walk in with my hands full. More useful than I thought. Probably not what you need for your workshop/studio though.
Always look forward to your Friday videos. 👏
I find myself humming the intro when driving in my car. So far, noone has asked me what I'm humming 😆 cool video👍
Don't worry, I do the same! Thank you
hi, thanks for all the fantastic content! I'm following your lead and planning on installing these light into my garage workshop. HOWEVER, I'd love to know how you wired the panels into the lighting circuit? I'm removing the old tube lights so have a wire, but I'm a little confused how I attach that wire to multiple LED drivers...? Any and all help and advice would be much appreciated.
I prefer to twist wires together before soldering!
Please can I ask how many lights you put up in total, I’m fitting the same lights and I have a 16x18 ft garage, Im trying to decide 4, 6 or 8, thank you, Terry
Well, add free content doesn't benefit me as I already pay for UA-cam premium. However I have joined your patron to support one of the best DIY channels on UA-cam.
No BS, just quality information presented in a clear and very witty way.
I don't know why most of the other channels are scared of uploading content longer that 10 minutes.....most of us have the ability to concentrate for much longer and personally I love content where its worth sitting down to watch it.
Keep up the great work Stuart.
Well thank you very much David.
Sometimes I heat shrink things for no reason......satisfying
You are not the only one!
Stuart, After some time of use what are these lights like. I was thinking of purchasing some for my garage but about 10% of the reviews say they fail early. What is your experience?
Those are the worst solder connections. I’m not say they won’t work. I am saying as a professional I do a straight twist between the two wires and then solder it. If you have problems in the future check those solder joints. 😮
Hi, Could you consider turning down the volume on the intro music just a bit, it's out of step with the rest of your interesting production. There are standards for broadcast 'loudness' but there's no need to faff about with them, just think about toning it down a tad. Thanks.
Another great vide👍👏👍👏🏴
Looks as though you forgot to add that block of wood and metal hook into your weight calculation.
Wow brilliant job and very effective use of the light fittings
Fantastic video as always ❤️👍👍
Thank you very much
Very clever my friend you should be on TV
This is a brilliant idea! love your videos.
Jesus Christ, how clever 😱😱😱
Nicely done! Love the simple ideas you adopt in your projects. The strip of plywood glued onto the plaster board - so simple yet genius. Keep up the good work and keep growing those YT stats!
Thank you very much!
Some nice tips thanks
Thanks
Brilliant idea, one for one of my projects now. And knowing your SOH, I just knew you would be wearing Sun Shades somewhere in this video. 🤣🤣🤣😎
👍
What I like about your workshopis the fact it's not a precious space. You don't keep up the illusion of a perfect you tube shop.
You are right - it's an average workspace, full of rubbish and there to be used - not to be polished!
@@ProperDIY not average. A good space.. wish I had the same.
You do all this prep and then talk as if you're just telling us stuff like a friendly neighbour. It's really *really* impressive. Thanks very much for all you post.
Great explanation of the process. If you were not a teacher you have missed your calling. I am a little dubious about the sunnies. Thank you, again.
Hi Stuart great vid once again, quick question, do you have any plans on making a video about picture frames? My wife likes making art and finding frames that fit is quite a challenge and can be expensive, i was wondering if making your own frames is a easier route to go down. And finally do you have any tips on how to hang a bunch of pictures on a wall all in the correct place, it drives me mad getting them looking right and thought a precise guy like yourself would have some ideas! Thanks.
Thats funny you should say that... the answer is yes and yes. I have a blank wall that my wife wants filled with all of our framed prints and photos which I plan to make a video on very soon and I have someone who will soon be doing a painting for me which I will make a frame for. Getting pictures to hang in the right place I have easy solutions for - once you know how - coming soon!
In the meantime, look up Micheal Alm and Get Hands Dirty - both did good videos on making them at home.
Love this. When I saw the lights previously, I assumed you'd had to cut out openings in the plasterboard for each one. You crafty little b*gger!!
This is a brilliant design for filming, the lights look perfectly normal (and make great overhead lights) when stowed away, and transform into "film lights" without having to store/drag/setup separate lights. Also a lot easier to work around since you won't be tripping over the wide base of lighting tripods. I don't do filming in my shop, but this is a terrific solution for those who do!
That's an ingenious use of those panel lights! All topped off with the "pusher pulled thing" 😂 That's why I'm subscribed to this channel!
Proper job always like watching you video 👍👌
Good to hear
Thank you Stuart. Another fantastic video. You always make me laugh and always teach me so much! May the force be with you. 🙂
What a bright idea! (sorry). Always interesting as even though I'll never do this I still watched until the end.
This is a great idea. I am looking for lighting ideas for my garage that has no power. I was thinking 6 or 8 MR16 12V LED Spotlamps (5w each) ran from a 20V Power tool battery with a Voltage regulator. These units are low voltage as well with a transformer. What Voltage is it working on?
Puts my 3 LED strips running on an old converted PSU to shame.
8:04 shear brilliance mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍 - need that on all my drills
Yes from last week's video
Very clever idea actually. They’re pretty expensive down here ($250)
Wow. Perfect timing! I am looking at lighting and was looking at 60 cm panels, but stuck on several issues. This is a great solution. Great idea. Thank you
Hi Stuart. There may be wider applications for these lights. Still photography for one. I don't see any signs of flicker on your videos either so maybe also in other indoor video applications. The shadow free lighting is a great boon. The professionals will worry about the spectral colour balance but for more low cost amateur work they may be useful indeed. Thank you for publishing, it's a lot of extra work putting these great videos together.
Another informative video. Thanks for shedding some light on how to brighten up a work space. 👍🏻
That type of light I've never seen before... but the real art is having them adjustable - for working, not just filming.
Quite brilliant....
Proper job again me old fruit. Awesome stuff, 5🌟s 🤙🏻
The sunglasses at the end, took me a couple of seconds why..............then had a good laugh!!
What an ingenious way of fitting dual purpose lighting 👏
Thank you
If Red Dwarf ever comes back i think they might have a job for you.
That is really cool! We couldn't put this sort of system into our current place because it's a rental apartment, but hopefully we'll be in a house later this year and can do something like this there. This is brilliant for recording sessions. Thank you so much. I'll be showing this one to hubby!
Impressive stu 👍
Love the shades ha.
😂 3:44 I do like your little 4th wall glances to camera!
The gentle humour is great. Nice spot 😁
After what seemed like hours of painting it was a natural reaction
Awesome stuff. Very clever idea using magnets to hold the frame up.
Nice job, am I the only one with workshop envy :-)
were the 4 foot extentions really needed? youve got the connection on the top edge so surely there was enough leeway there?
Really good video thank you mate real good 👍 👍👍👍
BRAVO!
Easier and neater to extend the driver output by wiring direct into the module instead of extending with a joint
Those are really cool lights, thanks for showing us.
Won't somebody please buy this man a table saw :D
🤔 Must get a bucket of granite……………..
Now that is one clever solution, Stuart!
Absolutely love this channel ...the very best one for sure ...
Finally! A use for that pool cue bridge sitting in the corner.
Exactly - good call!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Never knew Tony tucker was so good at DIY
Hi Stuart, Another brilliant video on how to do it properly. Do you have a link to the wire strippers you use - they look to work really well? I did search around the channel but couldn't see links to the gear you are using. Let me know if I'm looking in the wrong place...
Thank you. This is them... amzn.to/3grYxA3
Fanbloodytastic idea workshop light watch out you can never have enough light and as cheap as possible because of the energy hike 🙈great thanks 👍👨🏻🏭
Glad you liked it
Looks great...such a smart design
Can I ask you what camera you use?
Canon G7x Mk2
Thanks so much Stuart. Take care
Another quality video, keep them coming please :))
Thanks, will do!
Good solution, very nicely done.
You inspire me Stuart with ideas and your skill of creativity great stuff.
Thank you!
Thanks for showing both countries’ links. Nice to see your work process, instructive.
Thank you
Very clever . Great channel
Thank you very much!
Another great video, a great idea with the hinges. Sadly no amazon link to the donkey Don cards!
I'm sorry about that - couldn't find one!
Those light are really good.
Excellent video Stuart, love to hear more about the single light garage! Lol 😂
Thank you. You may well do on the Patreon feeds
Love the pusher puller stick thing. We all need one. 😄
I think so!
From the dark end of the street to the bright side of the road...these are the lights we're looking for.
Nice one!
Thats an amazing idea 👍
Love the shades!
Naughty! 😎
Great thanks
That ending with the sunglasses made me 😂
👍
Haha loved the transition!
Thank you
I enjoy your content. Have been subscribed for a while. Your music is driving me BSC (bat shit crazy). Before I set my computer a blaze, please change it. Or don't. LOL.
Also, if you stagger your soldier joints, it makes the join more compact.
Enjoyed the video, thank you. Another practical job - I agree, plenty of light makes a world of difference. Your video quality is fine, but... a request - lose that music, please. It adds nothing and makes hearing (mine is defective) more difficult. Regards, Les
Lights are not the best.
What's wrong with them?
Look good to me!
Apparently these panels blow after a few months use. Cheap components and poor quality control in manufacture
On Amazon they have 2 years warranty. Check it out.
@@christianpetersen1782 yes I know 👍
Quality! Will you be selling the frame sides as kits?? :) With a P-DIY sticker on them? :)
