Think all the edge conditioner is really for is to make it when you tune the drum heads there is less friction where it makes contact with the bearing edge for nice smooth incremental tuning. You can even see it with the drum dial on drums with really steep bearing edges where the needle kind of jumps a little bit as the drum head snags with the friction until it finally lets loose.
With the conditioner on it that doesn't happen it just glides across the bearing edge

That's kind of how I see it. You won't notice a sonic improvement, just an easier experience when it comes to tuning the drum.

Thanks! It’s not what I expected but I see the value in the product, and the price is hard to complain about

Was that a Gold Strata Ludwig Standard Tom?

Never have owned a gold strata, but I did own some blue/green strata at one point.

Is it effect to acrylic or steel ?😂

I’m not sure it’d really be necessary on those surfaces. To me, this just helps seal up end grain in wood edges.

Is there any indication of what the substance is? Could a chapstick actually be used?

    • @malonedrum

They claim it’s a proprietary product, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you struggled to find the exact ingredients. To me it felt like chapstick, some people use vasoline on their edges, so I would guess it’s similar to that.

@@malonedrum fairly certain it’s Vaseline or petroleum jelly that’s used in chapsticks So should be a reasonable substitute.

@@johngrant5749 Yeah, I think so. But this was only a couple bucks, so wouldn't hurt to get the actual thing.

I think those are probably great products, and I’m sure if I grew up more in the app/digital world in my first years drumming I would use it, it I’m so comfortable tuning by ear that I imagine I’ll always stick with just my ears for it.
