Drum Bearing Edge Cutting: bit.ly/36cRZRO
I really like this approach. It brings bearing edges within reach for almost anyone who owns a basic router. IDEA: What if we made a guide with 2 roller ball bearings separated by about 2 to 3 inches. That way the shell would always stay evenly posited between the two and have a consistent contact point with the router bit, no matter the size of the shell. I'm going to try it. Thanks for the great video and idea!
That seems like a really good idea. Thanks for sharing.
Would like to see a fence setup to keep the drum at the same angle to the cutting bit for the entire rotation.
amazing! what I like about this idea is that the bearing is rotating independently from the bit itself. usually the trim bits have small and flimsy bearings that often squeal after some use.
you're right, thank you!
I read that the more material that there is on the edge, the fatter, darker and mellower the sound and also allows a better lower tone when the head is attached to the drum, which is better for my taste. Nice video and excellent use of the router table!
Right! Thanks for comment
Nice finish 👌🏼
This is so good! awesome
thanks as always!
Brilliant!
thanks!
excellent video, and thank you very much for the subtitles, 👍👍👍👍
thanks!
Bravo MAN!
Muchas gracias!!!
muchas gracias por tu ayuda!
Love how you designed/made the router support. Easy angle adjustment. Super neat !
Tho, I may have a remark about the L shape plate that supports the ball bearing. It seems a little too thin/weak. At the 2:29 mark, you can see it slightly flexing. Not much, but enough to get an inaccurate cut. Other than that, It's all good.
Music mix a little behind and it's perfect.
thank you!
muchas gracias!
gracias
Gracias electrogato!
Very cool performance, this router table is very serious. Nice mate!
thanks as always!
finally an awesome video on UA-cam!!!!!
Thanks!
What a Nice set-up! Usable for much more projects! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
very clever
Thanks!
Nice!
Thank you!
Good idea, but I would add another 2 stops (right and left of the drum), so that when milling drum is not shifted, and did not change the width of the milling.
Mark.
Yeah, you can do it that way, but in this case it is not necessary
perhaps %)
Great video! :)
thanks!
Paoson WoodWorking where are you located? I'm working on getting a drum kit and I'd like to have the small rack toms cut shallower...
Great video! Do you have a video on how you make your drum shells also?
Nope, I'm sorry.
Can you please make a video on how to make that router table
This has probably been asked/answered but i can't seem to find it: What kind of router do you have and what RPM is it set to for cutting drum bearing edges? Thanks for your time and content. Learning a ton (and realizing I have a LONG way to go lol)
Your works, diy products and video quality are flawless... Everything looks clean and precise.
I am building a workshop for myself (hobby) and need to make some stave or segmented drums, but I have limited tools...A router, jigsaw, planer, circular saw and sander with hand tools are all I have...Can you show how you can make stave or segmented ring with those tools? I am sure you can and this could be the first video...Or just show a jig building technic to cut perfect segment or stave and make it round.
DIY with sophisticated tools like table saw, table router, pro tools, etc. is not exactly diy...Many UA-camrs don't seem to realise it.
Thank you
you need a lathe to turn down segmented shells
Is it possible to use this process to cut bearing edges on a bronze cast shell? Which bits i need?
Hi, thanks for the very helpful video. Please could you tell me where i can find more info on how to make one of these bearing followers that you use to guide the drum shell?
hello, take a look:

Ola paoson
Parabéns pelo projeto
me diga qual a potência da tupia
Grato por sua atuação
Um grande abraço
Obrigado! It is 750w but this model is no longer for sale. Take a look at this:

Hola. Me encantan tus vídeos!
Poco a poco construire todas tus maquinas.
Where did you get the guide part (the part with the wheel) that you ran the edges against?
I think this video should be titled, "Drum Bearing Edge Cutting... the hard way"
Why not just use a chaumfer bit? am i crazy?
No you aren't. Everyone else in these comments are.
Gracias otra vez y sigue haciendo vídeos tan chulos!
Hello. You may have posted this already, but can you show your router lift and tilt set up? It is a very nice set up!
check this out:

Gracias
Yet another great information share. I only have one criticism, I found the dialogue difficult to hear above the music. Is there any way it could be faded down whilst you are speaking? Otherwise brilliant again.
thanks for comment Clive! Yeah, you're right. I'll do it in my next video.
Is that a trim router? What kind of router is that? Thanks.

Could you design a drill powered bandsaw?
I have it in mind!
+Paoson WoodWorking nice!! Looking forward to it!
You should not sand that way but the rest is perfect
I had the same concern, after taking so much care to cut the edge then lost accuracy with uneven sanding
FUCK YEAH! :D
If u don't have an outer round edge the drumhead won't sit properly
Music is louder than your voice! Otherwise, nice video.
thanks!
People always find something to say.....this is an awesome video...Thanks sir
Great video but the music is too loud. I couldn't understand the speech because of the droning loud background music. I couldn't get to the middle of the video before I had to turn it off. Too bad because it probably is a good video. Nit a good choice for background music IMHO
Man I love your videos and you are so talented but there is one problem with your videos and that is backround music in your videos. It is so painful to watch, like yesterday when I was watching one of your sketchup tutorial video I almost got mad. Sorry to say this but please try to reduce the volume or just dont use background music.
thanks for your comment, I will try to improve the videos!
+Paoson WoodWorking. Thank you so much. Love your content and I really appreciate for sharing your knowledge.
This video and everyone in the comments over complicating cutting an angle on a wooden tube
Music is too loud. Can’t hear you.
What a Bad work. Unbelivebile.
Love the information BUT the guitar background!….it’s too loud. Can you tone that guitar down a little bit? It’s very hard to understand you or even hear you and I know you have a lot of good information to share in this video, so please turn down that background noise that annoying guitar is much too loud! DROWNS you out!
GUITAR TOO LOUD!!!
Ditch the music. That crap is too loud
