Here is a little video showing what I do to clean all my bearing edges after we complete a stunning paint finish for our customers.
You can do the same for a little DIY TLC of your drums.

7:25 great video sir! I appreciate your down to earth approach! Drummers tend to over complicate the simplest of things. Which, of course, I am guilty of. I live in Ohio and I’m fascinated by your mannerisms and accent! Bravo on setting the story straight on the mysterious bearing edge! 👍🏻👍🏻

That's really kind. A Welsh accent is special one for sure

Thanks for the video! I'm going to clean up the bearing edges on a '69 Ludwig tom-tom, and this just helped my confidence before I attempt it!

Excellent tutorial! Appreciate the demonstration and analogies. Just picked up a new floor tom and I think I will smooth out some of the rough bits and take off some of the sharpness on the top edge. Everyone else online seems to think bearing edges are some kind of black magic or secret formula so it's nice to see a more reasoned conclusion!

Go for it, I have done tons. Even a new Yamaha hybrid maple kit with 2 non-true drums. Most important is having a true, flat surface, and then true ing up the edge first. I’ve done some a few times just to experiment. I seal edges with tung oil when done, buff lightly with 0000 steel wool, then wax edges. Smooth as F

    Love your channel,
I just had a friend paint my set of Pearl World Series from the 80'.
Only forgot to tell him not to paint the bearing edges but he did !
I could hear something not right at first but I smoothed them out a bit...some rough paint left over on the edges .
The question, does it matter if the edge is painted over but still has its shape ?
    👍

      Thank you Saul.
I always take the paint off but I have painted all the shell, in, out and edges when requested. Yamaha do this on some shells.
As long as the paint is super smooth.

I appreciate your video, but I think using a trim router and a bit with a bearing guide is a better way to go for the outer bearing and inner bearing.
