THE MAJOR PROBLEM IS .. they are way better by satirizing songs than others who take those songs serious, when they create songs like that - and especially this songs content is so bonkers, that it just makes a good track out of it.. So even they try hard to sound bizzar and ridiculous, they still succseed in providing cool songs.
Love how Offspring fans seem to just collectively agree this is a "joke song" when they said nothing of the sort - it's not a parody, it's just them writing a fun poppy song, nothing wrong with that. It makes the fans sound insecure when they're like "N-NO THAT WAS JUST A PARODY OF POP MUSIC!"
i wouldn't say parody. offspring are known to mix a lot of weird styles with punk rock, like the heavy latin influences on americana/ixnay, electronic music/hip hop on conspiracy/splinter and pop on more recent albums. i wouldn't doubt this song has a little mockery on katy perry and other pop artists famous in that time, but i think the band just like to mix different styles and that's what makes them unique. parody or not, this song is a freaking banger anyway.
Even though it's a joke, it's still a really fun Summer song. It actually kinda makes me homesick for LA and California. I've never been there but I can hear something calling me to California
I know that feeling, bro! The first time I heard this band was back in '94 when we were living in Pomona, California. I'm back in my country since '96 but damn I miss that place, especially the beaches!
I'm maybe the only Californian who will be honest and tell you California is gucjjng awesome. It always feels so good seeing my state in movies and songs all the time. People may tell you they hate California but they're Just contraban, or else it wouldn't be thr most populated state in America
Imagine if this was the first Offspring song someone heard. Edit: to be clear this wasn't meant as an insult to the song itself or anyone who likes it, I also like it quite a bit myself.
Yeah actually I think there are too many "first-timers" because the songs of the first homonym album are heavily downvoted and I guess it's from these first-timers who search for Offspring songs like this one and they listen to the old Punk tracks and they freak out.
My teacher is a good friend of me too. even We were together on an Offspring concert two years ago. She is 50 year old, i'm 36. She wished to dance for a song by these guys on my wedding. So my wife , the teacher and i had a great time on "Cursing California"
This is exactly why I love the offspring! They can poke fun at today's pop music and still make a damn catchy and fun song in the process. It's hard not to smile at this. Also how did I not hear this song until now?
Parody is the wrong term, it is more of a satire song. Like Pretty fly it isn't supposed to be serious and be more of a fun/joke song. (The second part was more for the confused people than anything)
«"California Cruisin' (Bumpin' in My Trunk)" [sic] whose title alone should tip you off to its intentions: it's a daft parody of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls", complete with bad rapping, auto-tuned chorus and a chintzy electro pulse. I haven't listened to The Offspring in a long time, but what brought me to this song was Noodles interview with Punknews. The interviewer explained this theory about this song and Noodles loved it and I had to hear it. And he was right. Plus it's hilarious and catchy.
you all are missing the point, its a parody/satire and somehow that kind of suspends the cringiness of it and morphs it into an actual fun song that anyone might like. its actually pretty genius. the people who like this type of music will like it automatically, and the hardcore rockers will like it for how silly it is. its a win win.

The Offspring. Masters at trolling people with songs like these :D
Yeah but there is no real sense in putting unlistenable shit on an album.
Phil Th. Pig actually i thought it was catchy even though they were mocking shitty music, that's how good they are
It's catchy and upbeat. Not every song should be smart or contemplating. Sometimes life is just about getting drunk with friends.

Definitely the Offspring most underrated album.
For some reason, every time they evolved musically, fans got pissed off- Ameriana for instance.
I don't give a fuck that people hate this song. It fucking bangs, and the offspring are god damn legends.
Am I the only one who actually legitimately always liked (a lot) this song since day one?

SECOND BEST SONG OF THE OFFSPRING
OFFSPRING FOR LIFE!!!!!!
I'm into their early stuff and a few good songs from the late part, but damn this song's catchy af
Its only about 8 years when this song came out but times back then was soo much better and easier.
