Very helpful BUT you missed one very important step! There is a black locking tab on the side of the bulb socket that unlocks the bulb from the socket. If you rotate this tab up, the bulb is unlocked and comes out easily. More importantly, the replacement is very easy - you don’t have to really push the bulb back in. Not much force is required to seat the bulb. After inserting the new bulb, rotate the tab back down to lock the bulb in place. No need to reinstall screws to seat the bulb. Thanks for the clear video and descriptions.
I realized that I edited that part out. And I accidentally ended up using the wrong video clip for the final edit. But thanks for point that out to new viewers!
I have just purchased a 2010 q5 and the right light started dipping not long afterward. When I was parked in the back of another vehicle I noticed that the light was flickering and not turning on. I followed your video when I unlocked the tab, replaced the bulb. but couldn’t relook the tab since it broke in two. Would you have any idea if this can be replaced? After all this I’m wondering if I have ballis issues. Thx in advance for any info you can share.
You DON’T need to remove the airbox! Just loosen the headlight as you described and you have just enough room to remove the black panel at the back of the headlight and be able to remove/replace the bulb.
Nice job. Thank you for taking the time to show us what needs to be removed for clearance and how to get in there. I ordered some E-codes, but I'm really not looking forward to taking the bumper off right now, I'll probably be diving into that next spring. I need to start posting videos of my work to help others as well, so I'll try to get a video up for all of that. Thanks again and keep contributing.
The B8.5 models have electric power steering unlike the mineral fluid power steering B8's. The break fluid reservoir is located within the firewall section.
My right low beam high beam isn't working at times or once it gets warm I should say is that a bulb possibly and if it's I have a 2012 q5 premium plus do you have any bulbs in your Amazon store I can't seem to find it
What kind of headlights do you have do you have the xenon's, LEDs or the regular halogens? So you have the base package on yours? cause the bulbs may be different for each of the trim packages. Maybe if you can send me a picture and video through Instagram Snapchat or email of your headlights. As that can help me figure out what you need
Missing step edited out, Please Read! while i did fail to mention in the video to turn the plastic ring aside the metallic brackets, i did counterclock twist it & then remove the HID bulb. My mistake for not mentioning it that small detail or maybe I edited it out. I dont remeber as this video was taken a while ago. Anyways The headlights i worked on were not damaged & the bulbs are properly seated in its place.
Hi I feel of everything you explained this is key information that you should somehow make more visible. When I found the unlocking ring on my own the bulb went in very easy. Also you could mention that there is a wire at the bottom of the airfilter box that must be unplugged before you could lift it out. I almost broke mine off. I am convinced you could actually replace the RH one without removing the filter box if you just unlock the ring I mentioned earlier
Yes I didn't explain that part very well & my video editing skills must have cut out me saying to counter clock wise turn after realizing it doesn't pull straight out
This instructional video was really helpful (as were some of the comments with some clarifications). Thank you for taking the time to do this. Saved me a bunch of money :)
hello everyone !, great tutorial! I can do everything as shown but my car, audi sq5 2015, has a connector under the air filter box, it is very tight and I do not know how to disconnect it, I do not see anything in the video to illustrate myself, can someone give me a hand ? Thank you very much in advance
Hi I have a Audi Q5 and want to change the W5W bulbs in the door puddle lights for leds what do you recommend I am not keen on the ones with the wire bent over the ends because they don’t fit properly into the Audi puddle light holders and come loose
Try this amazon shopping list I made that has the puddle lights, be sure to confirm fitment & take a look at the several designs from quattro emblems to sline, to Audi logo to a certain Audi Model. The list contains a lot of different LED puddle lights www.amazon.com/shop/motorheadtech?listId=31Y1UW09ZQDB9&tag=aiponsite-20&linkCode=ic5&cv_ct_id=amzn1.idea.31Y1UW09ZQDB9&cv_ct_pg=storefront&cv_ct_wn=aip-storefront&ref=exp_cov_motorheadtech_vl_vv_d
Hi. I install 02 led ds3 headlights on my Q5 2011. They work for few minutes and after they stop. Really i dont know what is the problem. I do a scan with OBD eleven. It show me the default 00978 and 00979. When i put the old xenon they work. Pls help how to fix the problem
Hey if the D3S ballasts are a lower tier aftermarket brand then that can cause the problem. There's plenty of high quality aftermarket brands that don't throw an error light. (Speaking from experience), if not that then it could be a faulty pair that might need to be returned
I installed bulbs into a Q5 after watching this video and it went well. After a hour later, the customer stated that the bulbs are shining outward to the corners instead of straight.. Is there any idea on what could’ve went wrong?
You might need to calibrate/adjust the lights either manually with a lever knob on the housing if it has it and or use a specialized OBD tool like VAGCOM VCDS or Autel Maxsys or OBD Eleven.
I have issues with 2017 q7 side markers. How van I replace them. Audi wants to charge $9,500 to replace everything. According to them They cant just change the bulb
@@mguerramd yea its kind of hard, what i recommend to do it have the headlight bolted in place while having the rear cover off & the bulb wire disconnected, pull straight back hard & carefully & then the light should eventually pop off
MotorHead Tech This is actually a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica van and it’s possible the Phillips bulb may be inserted to an intermediate carrier that in fact does require twisting to remove I’m going to have to continue researching this to figure this out and thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly
@@mguerramd oh well this tutorial is for Audi vehicles, your chrysler may be different. Disregard what I have told you because I don't think the same steps apply. But anyways your welcome & good luck
I am not sure if Audi has tested it & or if it works & if it is intended to work fine with 6000k... But you can't almost never go wrong using the factory specs Audi has provided, which is what this video is following. Audi's OEM Light specs.
I changed my low beam headlight less than a year ago and the same light is out again. The bulb starts working again a few days later. I suspect I may have a bad ballast. It’s a bummer I might have to remove the bumper to replace the ballast. I think that’s bad design by Audi.
Hate my Audi! 2015 q5 is super annoying , every thing that should be easy to DIY but noooo! Over engineering can be a good thing but not in this case! Just overly complicated for zero reason makes it super $$$$$ to fix. Audis are good but not good enough for all the hassle ! Toyota is 100% better and hold their value
@@MotorHeadTech I apologize. I did find one better though and posted it. I was upset that I spent two hours trying to push the bulb in without lifting the clip. I also Broke the bulb. And had to go buy another one. So I suggest taking your video down, because anyone watching it will fuck up the bub trying to push in with the security clip still on.
I did leave a pin comment as well an a youtube annotation describing what should be correctly done. I can try to reddit the video while it's on youtube again, without removing it

Why do manufacturers do this? Have to spend 3 hours of my day just to change headlight globes 😖

Should I disconnect the battery before replacing the bulbs? It wasn't clear to me.
Technically you should take the precaution in doing so, although it is not necessary & I haven't done so in this video

Do you pull the bulb assembly straight back to get it out? No twisting, correct?
Yes straight out, please DO NOT twist it out! You will damage the metallic pins that hold the bulb

Well why don’t you give the easy way to do it. Duh
Bulbs need changing at 80,000 miles 😂
There is a life expectancy but it's in hours, I usually seen most of these D3S's go out before the 100k mile marker...
for all of that just to change the hid bulb
There is no need to remove the air intake
