Scorpion Stinger has a wolf head on its pommel *probably* because the "Dynast Civilization" whose ruins we find it in were the successors of the Farum Azula reign, which involved humans serving under beastmen. Okay that little 3d model for every weapon as it is being ranked is honestly so nice to just look at. Haven't played ER in awhile. Although the dagger run I did before would have been a lot easier now.
I'll never understand why we can't buff/infuse the Crystal Knife. We _have_ weapons like the Clayman's Harpoon, which let us do just that, so it's not like there's no precedent for it. Much as I love FS, they do make a lot of design decisions that leave me scratching my head.
Fr. The casting system is pretty much the worst one ove ever seen too. Nothing kills the momentum in a fight more than having to scroll 7 times to get to the spell I want
@@bofa722 I'm generally fine with the casting, though I tend to find two or three spells that I really like and just stick to those. If anything, I find a lot of the sorceries are just overshadowed by Slicer & Pebble (and Pebble's later upgrades, Shard & Comet).

I’ve kept a Flame Erdsteel Dagger on my pyromancer since LAUNCH. The lessons imprinted upon me by the Sunlight Straight Sword and Saint’s Bident were not lost. Stacking your faith scaling just works.
I'm just now doing my first faith playthrough, doing str/faith and have decided to try the fire erdsteel dagger too. It's not upgraded much yet but C str and faith scaling is looking nice.
Yep, adding a comment a bit late just too agree. The charged heavy, short dash and double hit, can connect so well, adds hits for talismans, and does great poise damage. And erdsteel dagger with impaling thrust, into charged heavy, into another charged heavy for the followup, are killing great bears and magmadragons and NPC invaders for me :). And a heads up, the talon straight sword has the same moveset, and excellent dex scaling. A dex build Switching between a medium shield and powerstancing talon swords, is my favourite build. I add the black bow or a short bow with mighty shot, for pulling stuff.
Crystal knife should of either been buffable/ashable or have a unique stonedigger spell. What could of been kills me everytime I go and forget to not pick it up.
Did you use the parrying dagger? The wiki paints it's parry as a rather unique one, as it has more startup and recovery frames than any other parry, but ALSO has way more active frames.
Only use for the Ivory Sickle is that it allows you to quickstep through rot without wasting FP. Says a lot about a weapon that its best perk is its hard-to-meet high stat requirement.
@11:38 Thank you for indirectly showing the erdsteel dagger's occult infusion being bugged and having zero arcane scaling. It's been that way ever since launch.
the Reforged Mod has given a lot of love to these daggers that I think cover a lot of the weakness outlined here, the black knife has a destined death buff on the weapon after using the weapon art, blade of calling got stance damage increase that matches skills like unsheathe or impaling thrust, the crystal dagger got better scalling and frostbite buildup added to it, the glintstone kris also doubles as a catalyst, the scorpion stinger has poison build up included The only casualty though is the Erdsteel Dagger
I'm glad it was mentioned that the Bandit's Knife pairs well with Reduvia, because it's almost the ideal option on NG runs before you can get another Reduvia. If you build your Bandit's Knife with Arcane or Blood (heck, even Keen), it pairs super well as an off-hand with Reduvia, turning your character into an absolute blender. Bleed procs are going to just fly off of whatever you hit with this combo and is probably the best dagger set-up (until you can just dual-wield Reduvias).
I’m so happy Reduvia gets the respect it deserves, it was the weapon I took all the way from the start to the end of my first playthrough so it holds a special place in my heart
I made a Claymore (manga) cosplay build and started off by using the Cinquedea simply to boost my bestial incantations (to simulate the monster-like abilities the characters have) but ended up using it as a very reliable secondary weapon. Something to note with the black knife AoW is that if you roll through the wave it still gives you the destined death debug and dot, just not the direct hit damage.
Seeing underrated over the Erdsteel dagger on the thumbnail alone made me smile, one of my two chosen melee weapons with my build and it is such a nice little knife of versatility especially after the tweaking buffs over the year or so this game has been out, especially with the unique R2 and Faith scaling bonuses with infusements, I don't use any other than quality purely for Grease use but it can get scary good with Sacred or Flame art.
I personally love the Misericorde, nothing quite as satisfying to me as staggering an enemy, quickly hitting right on the d-pad, and watching a massive chunk of health disappear

Finding out bloodstained dagger exists was one of those moments when I realized that I really was overthinking how to make STR builds more fun. You can just make a DEX build within your STR build and call it a day.
Flame Art with Flame strike has more recently become one of my most favorite things to see what just gets utterly broken with it. Recently did a Nagakiba run with it (Journey 11, because reasons) and that thing utterly destroyed things to a point I was not expecting. Seeing it break a few daggers has me hella intrigued, very very cool stuff. And good ranking!
I'm currently playing a dual wielding dagger build while watching this, and got all the way to the top 5 without hearing my chosen daggers mentioned. Using a poison affinity Great Knife with off-hand Reduvia. Poison Moth Flight to turn poison into a second bleed effect. Winged Sword Insignia and Kindred of Rot's Exultation for double damage buffs. And anything THAT doesn't work on gets the Morning Star treatment. I wouldn't have thought double dagger builds would be viable, but so far so good.
Erdsteel dagger is just so satisfying on a faith build, slap sacred blade on it and the damage goes up to over 600 on a weapon that can hit two to three times before a UGS can swing. I really love it on a light roll build, combo with some good incants to increase your options and range and it's a real threat in the Arena. Haven't lost many fights yet. Just got back into things for the DLC and really connected with the feel of using just one dagger either 1 handed or 2 handed. Catches people off guard when they are in their full on heavy armour and massive weapons ready to trade blows and then I come at them with a dagger and they can't catch me. I know it's not the strongest build, bleed seems way stronger but in general I have no issues.
Reduvia literally being a hop skip and a jump from the start of the game is pretty funny as well given you can start with 2 of the best daggers in the game within like 5 minutes.
Scorpion Stinger having a wolf head for the pommel, especially a white wolf, is probably a reference to Game of Thrones since GRRM helped write the game.
Good to know about the Cinquedea. My buddy and I are doing a caveman/primal themed run and a rock sword powering rock-throwing sounds pretty useful and fitting :)
Man made a dagger ranking video as I start a new playthrough as a Dex Faith caster with an emphasis on parrying and revealed one of its greatest tools in the Flame Art Erdsteel Dagger. Thank you Rusty. I will now parry the gods themselves with this knowledge.
I think you're sleeping on the scorpion stinger putting it that low when rot is such a strong status effect. It goes insanely well as an offhand to the reduvia, bringing it in to proc rot and then swapping out to another dagger until its time to proc rot again.
I had no idea the Glintstone Kris doesn't suck! I'm gonna try it out next time I play. I have been wanting to try dual daggers recently. You make a good case for cinkydaya too. Your gameplay with the rocks and stuff looked pretty slick!
My first ever playthrough was powerstancing blood great knife and reduvia, and combined with mimic tear, I absolutely shredded any boss, like I even beat Mohg on my first try, something I haven't done since. The main issue was that sometimes I literally couldn't hit bosses even at point blank because of the size of their collision, and required a bit of finagling or just spamming reduvia blood blade
Honestly the misericorde is just something I keep in my second slot in my main hand for when I stance break a boss or something because of the damage it does
Yes It has happened I knew it The all weapon series is upon us , and I eagerly await it after commenting for a year straight (Also cool 3D weapons , dunno how alexander did that but props to him)
Just finished a playthrough with the Bloodstained daggers. It was lots of fun, but now that I get to use longer weapons with my other character, it feels so much more comfortable to play.
When the inevitable all weapons ranking happens Dont rank by effectiveness which will make the video relevant for about 2 months, rank them by how cool they are regardless if they're so bad they're worthless or so good they're frustrating
5:06 Finally someone else has noticed a discrepancy in the scorpion's stingers, which seems to have been designed for one purpose and then used for another.
It’d be rad if you did a ranking of every weapon class like this, then a ranking of the best weapons of each to find the indisputable best. Breaks up the work, gets you more content to make money off 👍🏼
It is kinda crazy and pretty awesome that the best dagger in the game is available alost immediately. Start as a Bandit and you can have a great double dagger setup from the begnning of the game, between the Reduvia and Great Knife.
i always gravitate towards daggers in games, my entire first playthrough of elden ring was with reduvia and i genuinely thought it was gonna be considered the most op weapon in the game
One note about Black Knife in PVP: If your connection is subpar, even if you dodge you still receive the health debuff and the damage over time if it connected on their screen. Because netcode is shit.
That is not the reason. It uses the same code as statuses. If you get hit during your i-frames in your roll, you won't take damage but status is still applied. Since the hit detection for the black blade effect is the same as for statuses it still applies through i-frames.
There's a wolf on the scorpions stinger because originally there were going to be more scarlet rot ancestral followers than the one in the lake of rot. They have more of a connection with the red wolves of radagon.
So im doing a bestial build and im trying the cinquedua for the first time as well as using the bestial incants for the first general time, and honestly its been really fun in how it plays
I had a lot of fun with the Blade of Gold skill, especially since you couldn't be knocked out of the animation, but that was very situational with certain, fast bosses in smaller areas.
Funny thing is, my first playthrough, I almost exclusively used a bleed infused Misericorde, as this is my first Souls game. I liked daggers, but I didn't even know how parrying worked, so all throughout the game, I just used that, with a little bit of backstabbing, and a Brass Shield, only getting into incants at the end of the run
Re: the wolf on the Scorpion's Stinger: The Beast Champion armor says that "Beasts are drawn to champions, and to Lords" and the Raging Wolf armor says "According to the old legends, wolves are the shadows of the Empyrean." Additionally, we know that wolf-like Shadows like Blaidd and Maliketh are created by Fingers to serve Empyreans, and even our own character, the Tarnished on No Renown, has wolf companions that follow them (Lone Wolf Ashes: "Spirits of wolves chased from their pack. They later encountered a nameless Tarnished, who welcomed them as hunting companions.") So to me it makes perfect sense that the previous avatar of the Rot God, who was probably an Empyrean, had a close enough relationship with some wolf or other that their followers would put the image of a wolf on their ceremonial tool to honor them.
Happy to see Erdsteel Dagger so high! Recently did a fth/dex dagger playthough and it was the MVP of the run lol. You can get two in a single playthrough and dual wielding them with Flame Arc + whatever I needed ended up resulting in a really fun and flexible spellblade build.
I used a duel wield reduvia build but later adjusted it to a shield and dagger loadout to trip up the mimic tear boss. The boss is only an issue to fight if its better at using the weopons you are using. Turns out shield and dagger is a crazy build because you sacrifice parry if you still want to use the daggers blood loss ability.
Can't wait till he reviews swords. My favorite is the Carian Knight Sword. That thing does magic damage and i found out that the Magic Scorpion Talisman also boosts its attack.
Cinquedea is absolutely goated simply because it works so well on a strength build. It gives you a faster option and performs super well as a sidearm. And it works so good with the funny rock.
Erdsteel Dagger is my best friend tbh. Pure faith “pyromancy” build, and I wanted minimal physical stats with great faith scaling, and this was effectively my best option.
Lets not forget Black Knife or Blade of Calling death proc stacks with black blade incantation. Good for initiating a fight with large health pool enemies especially in late NG's. Don't sleep on AOW sticks, no matter their weight. Scepter of All knowing and Envoy's Greathorn's debuffs are meaty and both last 60 seconds. These are good too.
I'll offer a non-expert's meagre defense for the Wakizashi. 1 - It looks cool. I freely admit that is its strongest asset, which is a piss-poor argument on its own, unless one cares about Fashion Souls. 2 - It provides an unexpected variety to the katana powerstance abilities that most people overlook. Everyone mentions that it powerstances with katanas, but neglect to mention that in all other ways, it remains officially a dagger. What that means is that it is a katana that can use arts of war that are usually reserved for daggers, and that in turn means exactly what you think it does! Quick step, blood step, Assassin's Greed, these can all be used on the fly in powerstance. If you're not usually using those, then the Wakizashi is useless to you, for sure. But if you've ever wanted to be a ninja who can use all the crazy dagger powers while still wrecking enemies with two Katanas, well now you can. My personal favourite is to use Assassin's Greed, and just sneak up on people and burst damage them with whatever katana I feel like wrecking with that day (usually an Uchigatana with the Slice art, because it's basically a poor man's Rivers of Blood right out of the gate.)
So as a Dagger/Claw user, I gotta throw my 2 cents in here. Most of your list I Agree with minus two things. 1) I wouldn't really even put Wakazashi on this list because it basically has a specific job. It is exclusively meant to be paired with another Katana. When upgraded, it shares the same damage output and moveset as the Uchigatana. You will literally get the same damage as power-stancing Uchigatana as you would power-stancing Uchigatana + Wakazashi. Wakazashi's motion-values skyrocket when exclusively paired with another Katana (and not another Wakazashi). It also gets immensely reduced stamina costs on the power-stanced attacks in addition to reduced weight, with the downside being the shorter reach. 2) I would personally put Erdsteel Dagger in S-Tier territory on a pure Faith build. I've tried out many other setups and no other Dagger beats this Dagger in terms of Raw damage output when you dump into Faith and infuse it with Faith or Sacred. It may not have status buildup, but it still slaps. Similar to the Wakazashi, this Dagger has a job: Give a Pure Faith build a solid Melee weapon. Most caster builds require you to make a sacrifice to your weapon damage output. This Dagger takes that concept and yeets that sh*t right out the window (just like Clayman's Harpoon for Magic builds). I borderline easy mode this game Power-stancing these things combined with the Black Knife armor to make a Black-Flame Faith Ninja while using Cipher Pata as a backup because they weigh nothing.

I had no idea the Glintstone Kris doesn't suck! I'm gonna try it out next time I play. I have been wanting to try dual daggers recently. You make a good case for cinkydaya too. Your gameplay with the rocks and stuff looked pretty slick!
Yeah it's really good
the outro song is Technicolor Dreamscape by Franz Gordon for anyone that was curious
I love the rayman background music
I'm gonna slightly defend Crystal Knife here, noting crazy
It's anti-golem weapon, higher poise damage with magic dmg and deals bonus dmg while crits them
My first ever playthrough was powerstancing blood great knife and reduvia, and combined with mimic tear, I absolutely shredded any boss, like I even beat Mohg on my first try, something I haven't done since. The main issue was that sometimes I literally couldn't hit bosses even at point blank because of the size of their collision, and required a bit of finagling or just spamming reduvia blood blade
Reduvia absolutely owned my first playthrough. GOAT
I wanted to try a dagger only run, good to see what daggers are good and bad
Hey, nice video! This format is going to be real fun once you get to the shields.
Rusty is the go to Elden Ring God of comically putting things in order. So glad to have found him.
Honestly the misericorde is just something I keep in my second slot in my main hand for when I stance break a boss or something because of the damage it does
Yes
It has happened
I knew it
The all weapon series is upon us , and I eagerly await it after commenting for a year straight
(Also cool 3D weapons , dunno how alexander did that but props to him)
Thank you for the DMC refference, Rusty. I needed that today. I love that franchise so much lol!
Just finished a playthrough with the Bloodstained daggers. It was lots of fun, but now that I get to use longer weapons with my other character, it feels so much more comfortable to play.
When the inevitable all weapons ranking happens
Dont rank by effectiveness which will make the video relevant for about 2 months, rank them by how cool they are regardless if they're so bad they're worthless or so good they're frustrating
DLC is about to drop an item with a description like:
"When radagon sealed the god of rot, he turned all scorpions into wolves"
The fromsoft way: retxcon information we already have from the same game
5:06 Finally someone else has noticed a discrepancy in the scorpion's stingers, which seems to have been designed for one purpose and then used for another.
It’d be rad if you did a ranking of every weapon class like this, then a ranking of the best weapons of each to find the indisputable best. Breaks up the work, gets you more content to make money off 👍🏼
It is kinda crazy and pretty awesome that the best dagger in the game is available alost immediately. Start as a Bandit and you can have a great double dagger setup from the begnning of the game, between the Reduvia and Great Knife.
He’s doing it! YES! THANK YOU RUSTY!
i always gravitate towards daggers in games, my entire first playthrough of elden ring was with reduvia and i genuinely thought it was gonna be considered the most op weapon in the game
Since the hit detection for the black blade effect is the same as for statuses it still applies through i-frames.
not sure why but I love the videos from this channel, please never run out of things to rank in elden ring
I think the ivory sickle was supposed to be like the erdsteel dagger where it has the innate int scaling but can put an aow on it
If your ever feeling stupendously brave, rank every boss move, not every boss, not every move of a particular boss, every boss move.
As someone who's been wanting to do a dual dagger run (and even farmed up a 2nd Great Knife already), this has definitely helped me.
Yay another rusty ranking! Can't wait for him to rank all the feet of NPCs.
The Great Knife is the reincarnation of the ''badit Knife'' , that is a hidden gem ins DS ,DS2 AND DS3.
Big fan of this australian kictchen knife
I was literally just talking about you making another tier list, how funny. You sure did produce this one quick.
Thank you for giving the tanto love. I was screaming at my scream. Weird that's a wakkisashi counts as a dagger...
Re: the wolf on the Scorpion's Stinger:
The Beast Champion armor says that "Beasts are drawn to champions, and to Lords" and the Raging Wolf armor says "According to the old legends, wolves are the shadows of the Empyrean." Additionally, we know that wolf-like Shadows like Blaidd and Maliketh are created by Fingers to serve Empyreans, and even our own character, the Tarnished on No Renown, has wolf companions that follow them (Lone Wolf Ashes: "Spirits of wolves chased from their pack.
Nice touch with a classic rayman song :P My childhood!
I love how the first dagger is explained like it's a data knife from titan fall
I used a duel wield reduvia build but later adjusted it to a shield and dagger loadout to trip up the mimic tear boss. The boss is only an issue to fight if its better at using the weopons you are using. Turns out shield and dagger is a crazy build because you sacrifice parry if you still want to use the daggers blood loss ability.
Can't wait till he reviews swords. My favorite is the Carian Knight Sword. That thing does magic damage and i found out that the Magic Scorpion Talisman also boosts its attack.
"I don't know how to illustrate this without showing actual gore"
I feel like this will be what is on this guys tombstone
Cinquedea is absolutely goated simply because it works so well on a strength build. It gives you a faster option and performs super well as a sidearm. And it works so good with the funny rock.
Finally, the Glintstone Kris has its day. I've been hollering about this weapon for a year
Erdsteel Dagger is my best friend tbh. Pure faith “pyromancy” build, and I wanted minimal physical stats with great faith scaling, and this was effectively my best option.
Bro has chilled and Magical Spyro music playing for a game that literally says, "nah, come back to life, I haven't killed you enough"
I like how the dagger that, in lore, is supposed to be the stinger of the scorpion outer god of rot, yet its less favorable than a basic dagger.
