Paw Paws are delicious! We bought two trees and are eager to get fruit from them. Moved to Missouri where they grow wild. I recall my grandmothers vinegar pie and wanted to bake one. Thanks for sharing.
I'm sure they were about in Australia when I was growing up but they featured in Jungle book movie. I'm amazed by all these pies you have! I must look up some recipes from UK during the war! I love the plate too.
Paw Paw is quite popular here in NZ and is used extensively in dermatological applications, as in skin conditions, lip balm etc where it has high therapeutic value as well as a food.
My mother in law made a vinegar pie years ago. My husband and I stopped by while it was in the oven. You could smell the vinegar outside. The vinegar took my breath when I walked in the door. Obviously she did something wrong. Lol. The papaw fruit is delicious. We have it in eastern Kentucky. We eat it after frost in the fall. I don’t know anything to compare it to. It is just so delicious. The wild animals love the fruit so you have to watch or it will be gone. The trees are small like a peach tree.
I absolutely loved watching you and Robin together, but can I say definitively that girl, you are rocking this channel all by yourself, you don’t need any sidekicks❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻
I'm from Missouri and I couldn't wait for paw paws to ripen. They can be frozen, too, to use at a later date. They are like a big darkened avacado in shape and size, have yellow fruit of a pudding type consistency containing big black seeds throughout the fruit. Delicious. Reminds me of a banana a little over ripened with a dash of lemon. Yummy
I have my mom’s pie ring I think they still make them and they are better then using foil. It just rests on top of your uncooked pie edge but sits up just a bit so it cooks but doesn’t burn.
Hey Cathy, very cool to see the stuff they came up with in the depression era. Yes ther Bare Necessities song from jungle book. "When you pick a paw paw or prickly pear. " I thought they came from cactus. Thank you so much for the video. Have a wonderful day. Be safe

In Texas where I grew up in our backyard we had 3 pear trees, 3 fig trees, 2 pecans, a pomegranate, and yes... a pawpaw. My mother would make pawpaw bread, Sometimes with bananas and pecans mixed in and sometimes just plain pawpaw. She would also make cakes with it and we’ve even had pawpaw ice cream. I don’t remember any pawpaw pies, Mostly she just made pecan pies and coconut merengue pies (my fave)

I used to grow a paw paw tree in Southern Indiana. I never did get any fruit off of it. I had heard they taste like a banana. We live in GA now and they have some planted in the Botanical gardens here.
Yes Paw Paws are native to Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and quite a few other states as well as parts of Canada. My grandmother took me hunting for native fruits on their farm. Paw Paws were a little like a banana custard. The trees can be almost bush like or up to 70 feet tall. Not all trees produce the same quality or flavor of fruit. Another native fruit in parts of America are are passion fruits. It would be neat if Native grown fruits were available so you could review them.
My Nana used to tell me that her mom made depression lemon pie and that sounded yumny!! And here's a wacky wednesday weird food my hubby eats sardines out of the can yucky!!!🤪I wish I liked them they are good for you!!
