Had this condition for about 5 days now. Woke up this morning at 1 AM due to the pain in my finger. Thought it was in ingrown nail but that didn't make sense because I take very good care of my nails. While searching for how to fix an ingrown toenail I came across this video. This was exactly what I was experiencing. I followed the directions and it worked perfectly. Pus came out. Much less pain now. I'm going back to bed. Thank you for posting this video.

For anyone with a child who has acute paronychia, THIS is the video to watch. It's just practical, no frills and re-assuring. I had my son's school phoning saying that his thumb was infected, he needed urgent medical treatment and anti-biotics. My son didn't bother to mention that he is constantly chewing and biting down his nails. Anyway, I followed this video to the letter, stayed calm and guess what, IT WORKED! Thank you DFTB for telling it how it is. You're fab! x

I'm an adult who has gotten for the first time and I feel the same way 😂.. I was quite nervous last night as it woke me at 3 am.. then I took some advil and slept with my fist clenched and it actually helped with the immense pressure .. today not as bad feeling but I assume I'll have to pop it soon so just biding my time and trying to psych myself up for a needle jab! Haha

Thank you for this. I just did this step by step to my thumb. Seeing that pus shoot out was so weirdly satisfying lol. The thumb is still sore and draining a bit but the pain level just went down abt 70%.

Thank god for this video, I got an infection on my ring finger and it became incredibly painful in a short period of time. I was awake all night until I found this video and drained the pus. I was able to sleep after with minimal pain compared to what I was going through before went from a constant 7/10 to a throbbing 2/10. I recommend soaking your finger in pretty hot salt water to loosen the skin. I used a toothpick to pry open and make a tiny hole. After I drained as much as I could I put antibacterial cream and a bandage on it. This video was a lifesaver for me.

I’m 14 and just drained mine after removing a hangnail! it feels so much better and way less painful :3. I’ll update! Trust me it is not painful AT ALL. until you squeeze the pus! :p
    What I used
    - sharp nail clipper
    - warm water
    - Vaseline/antibiotic cream
    - bandage.
    - hand sanitizer / alcohol wipe for finger.

Day 1: I woke up to get ready for school and I feel no pain at all! I took my bandage off cleaned my hand and reapplied. It’s still a little bit swollen but the swelling and redness has went down a lot!
Day 2 no pain or swelling/redness at ALL my finger is back to normal! But I’m gonna make sure to still keep the area clean for a week.

    Personal process:
Day 1: Bit the skin around my nail and it got infected. After a week of painful swelling, I decided to take antibiotics a few days ago, but it kept filling with pus. Gently drained it as explained in the video and cleaned the finger with oxygenated water and disinfectant, before applying a bandaid. Currently still on antibiotics.

After squeezing pus from area, I recommend soaking in a saturation of Epsom salts and water a few times a day...when I have soaked a wound I heat the water to streaming and then keep adding the Epsom salts until
saturated and then begin soaking when the mix is tolerable... soak 15-20 minutes 3-4 times a day... after a few days any infection etc should be cleared up...

Hi. I recently got paronychia on my ring finger from biting my nails too deep. I did what you said in the video and tiny pus came out but my finger still looks swollen. The pain has decreased majorly since I used to feel some type of "heartbeat" (it's just some internal throbbing) inside the finger but I'm not sure if the swelling should go down immediately. Is it normal if I've pushed all the pus and nothing comes out but my finger still looks a little blue? Because if no, does that mean I still have some pus in my finger or is the swelling just going to take time and decrease?
Edit: My paronychia did not go away. My finger is still in some way 'breathing' still and the pain is still here.

I'm a grown azz man and never had thus before until now.. and it actually woke me up last night it was so painful.. not as bad now, but it's good to know it's a fairly easy thing to fix if it continues to get worse.. I'll assume I may have to do this either way.. but figured I'd wait one more day just in case it settles on its own ❤❤❤

@freespeechordie2252 yep sure did.. It got big enough I was nervous I'd have to go to the hospital and that wasn't happening.. putting something under the cuticle is so much easier than it sounds.. then you gotta dig around for a few seconds before anything really comes out.. the hard part is just squeezing for a bit, that hurts.. but otherwise It went very smooth.. only observation x months later,, that my nail is actually raised a bit, like I've seen others like this before but never happened to me.. like the infection raised my nail bed a bit and made my nail unlevel.. it's not a big deal haha but something my overanalytic brain always thinks about 🤣🤣

I have had the worst experience with a parynochia. Started in May drained twice at urgent care and ER . Tried 4 different antibiotics then had to have an orthopedic doctor debride the finger. Six weeks of a pic line with intravenous antibiotics. After just starting this Developed C diff infection and landed in the hospital and still continued IV antibiotics and treatment for the C diff.
2 months of oral antibiotics ended Halloween. The finger seemed sore and I kept going back to the doctor to check.
The finger swelled and abcessed again. The best treatment was amputation😢😢. 10 days out now.
Just relaying an experience which is certainly a very rare occurrence.
Strangely all the cultures showed a light growth of bacteria. It had gone into the bone causing osteomyelitis. I am 79 so that is a plus in this situation.

I’m 11 and I got this it started a day ago and it hurt but I thought maybe I cut my self or it was clif piece of skin but after a day I realized it was green. I actually began to panic because a while ago I watched a video saying like someone was biting their fingernails so much and then one day they just had green green circle on their finger and I remembered that video and it said they died because they didn’t take care of it and I was so afraid so I went on Google and I search it up and it said that like you can die from it in my heart saying cause I can’t die at 11 years Old told me what it is so I was like OK I’m not gonna die. It’s OK but I really did not want to tell my mom because my mom is always telling me stop biting your nails stop biting your nails, but I never stopped so I finally decided to search it up because I finally knew what it is and I realized I won’t die andcan only die if I leave it forever and ever, but this process was really easy and it worked. I just want to say thank you for reassuring me that I will not die.

you can usually feel it onset in it’s early stages. best time to apply some polysporin triple action, sleep it out and it’ll heal over night and it won’t get to this point.

Compass sounds brilliant just make sure doesn’t get infected by applying bandage.

After four weeks of a painful finger and failed oral antibiotics, it finally spontaneously opened and drained while I was in the shower. I pressed all the remaining pus out, trimmed the dead skin on top with disinfected nail clippers and applied antibiotic cream and bandage. Looks and feels much better and hopefully will heal up quickly.

I had THE EXACT SITUATION a few minutes ago. My thumb is still a little red and tender and swollen....and I had some pain around the base of my thumb. I squeezed as much gunk out as I could but then I just soaked the digit in warm water then cleaned the area. Abt thirty minutes has gone by since I popped the little abscess and abt 70% of the pain is gone, even at the base of my thumb.
