  • Callum and Ezran, are the two exceptions to the rule in The Dragon Prince universe, where humans can perform magic or have special abilities. It would be a real shame if this was simply for plot convenience, but fingers crossed this isn't the case and we are yet to unravel the truth as to why they are able to use magic and talk to animals. So today we decided to predict why this is, and we think we just might be right!

No, they can't have elven legacy. The creators said that Ezran was an empath, not magical, he can't speak with animals, he can comunicate with them. There really are such people, who feel everything other persons feels. And about Callum, to be part elf would cancell everything he work so hard to achive. We know elves are born to an instincual conection to a primal spurce, something that is so familiar and natural to them that they strugle to put it into words. The whole journey he has been through, the lost of his father, the struggle with his identity will become only a pointless exercise because he had that potential due to his genes.

Personally, my headcanon is that humans do have a natural connection to the primal sources, but it's a lot weaker than it is for elves and other magical creatures. In regards to Ezran's animal powers, while it might not be magic per se, it's definitely at least magic adjacent. How else do you explain his telepathic link with zym?

I had always thought that Callum was able to understand the sky arcanum through his dark magic, because of his self disgust and what not, he went into a magic coma. That’s what the pathway was for him imo, it kinda makes sense, he needed a bridge between himself and primal energy, which the spell served as.

Not a fan of this theory because it undermines the value and struggles that both Callum and Ezran have been through together. I personally theorize, and hope, that humans can learn any magic, just like the elves of Xadia, but it's much harder, if not, near impossible to achieve so easily. It'd be a much more interesting story (in my opinion) if the elves were wrong about humans all along. Or another theory I'd hope to happen was that the elves always knew humans could learn any magic, but they hid that knowledge a long time ago, thus getting lost in history until the current day elves of Xadia just believed that humans can't learn magic at all.

i know this is old.. but humans can use primal magic... all humans not just callum.. however the problem is that its not easy for a human to understand magic since they aren't born with the connection... dark magic acts as a sorta shortcut...essentially it would take years to train a human to learn magic (callum only realized it sooner because of dark magic) dark magic just skips the learning process and jumps straight into commanding magic without much training (callum could do dark magic without ever having used it before pretty easily... he even said it was easy) and that is why humans switched to using dark magic... not because they couldn't do primal magic... but because dark magic was significantly easier...

I had the theory that all humans have the potential for any magic but lack the natural connection that magical beings have and Kalium gained that connection well using the primal stone, and can we talk about how to use dark magic without killing things have a pet dragon and use its naturally lost scales, snot, poop, hair or other similar naturally lost pieces

    • @bdariamihaela
      @bdariamihaela 3 роки тому +5

Nice theory. I belive humans are the lucky ones but they don't realise it. An elf is born with an arcan conection, but a human can forge his conection, he can chose, elves don't have that choise. The sad part is that many humans take the shorcut of dark magic ,that slowly coruptes them

The series creators went out of their way to show that the sky rune on the Key of Aaravos was glowing when Calumn dreamed of his mother. This tells me that the Key some how helped him connect with the Sky Arcanum.
Ezran spent a lot of time in close proximity to Bait who was magical enough to trigger one of the runes on the Key, so it might be possible that this nurtured an ability that would have otherwise never emerged.
I think that Calumn's birth father had studied dark magic under Viren and Calumn will have to reconcile his desire to learn magic with the fate of his father.

My theory is Dragon Blood, not literally but some descendant (mothers side) that made a magical convenient/bond with a dragon. Or Ezran is just an empath (maybe so was his dad) and the cube is the key to Callum's developing magic.

I think there was a whole episode dedicated to Callum gaining his Sky Arcanum. This means that humans can use magic without resorting to dark magic. • @csillafleischman1880

In my opinion, the story could take a stronger turn if it turned out humans aren't actually lesser in terms of magic. I mean just looking at Callum. He doesn't have a birth connection to any of the natural elements because he is a human. Throughout the story that makes every magical being say "you can't do magic" but it's actually the opposite. He could in theory learn all kinds of magic without using a primal stone. That is an impairment, yes, but it goes against the "racism" (sort of) of magical beings.
It could be an interesting story to see them be descended from some powerful elf (maybe the guy who made the cube) but it would be just as cheap in my opinion, as having a prophecy about it.
As for Ezran's ability, I got nothing for that. He's just weird.

Honestly Callum having any natural advantage of magic would be beyond stupid. A big part of his character is that he wants to prove that humans can use magic other than dark magic, hence why he worked so hard to connect to the sky arcanum. But then he realizes he only got it because of his genes (something he had no control over)? That's like studying hard to get a perfect score on a test after being told you can't. You get that perfect score, only to realize your teacher rigged you. See my point?

It could be related more to the enviornment? I.e Callum was influenced by external factors and that combined with his knowledge of magic and passion for it (plus his ability to use a magic creating item for a while) was able to push him toward the result of being a mage. I think I prefer the idea that humans would have more barriers to magic than elves but it's not impossible for them to create their own link to an arcanum. Callum's exposure to the sky arcanum through Zym and the sky stone thing is exceptionally unusual for a human after all. Heck, Zym might have the ability to make the connection for Callum after seeing how much he cared about it.

I think that Aaravos invented the Key while he was learning to master all six Primal Arcanums as an aide. Since Calumn was the first person to show any interest in it in a long time, it regarding him as its new master. When he refused to embrace dark magic after using it for the first time, the Key showed him how to access the Sky Arcanum.

I would prefer the idea that humans have always had the ability to connect to primal sources but it could be very difficult, and since humans and elves used to coexist it wouldn't be surprising if humans didn't really try because it wasn't necessary due to the elves naturally having the ability. But there are always some people who are greedy for power, and dark magic was an extremely easy way of achieving the same power elves naturally had. They wanted the power and glory magic gave people but not the hard work to get it through the primal sources and so dark magic was born.

you're thinking about it too much. Calumn isn't necessarily "gifted", he's not Luke Skywalker, he made his own connection with the sky arcanum. This is something that all humans can do, they just haven't thought to do so. and Esran might just be gifted. We all say and know that he didn't decend from elves, and if he did, if either of them did, I'm sure they would exhibit some sort of trait, more than likely physical, that would suggest so. However, they are both purely human. Sometimes things are just more cut-and-dry than we'd like them to be.

In my opinion Callum wasn’t special, he just thought outside the box, most humans would just accept the reality that, they can’t do magic and go into dark magic with two legs, but Callum thought he doesn’t wanna do dark magic so he rejected it in favour of rather understanding the arcanum, he maybe the only one to have done that successfully.

For the "villain is the hero's father" plot twist to work a relationship between the characters needs to be established as early as possible. As of the end of Book 3, Aaravos and Calumn have at most had a passing glimpse of each other and Aaravos said he'd been imprisoned for centuries, which means there's been a minimum of eight human generations separating him from Calumn, assuming Aaravos would even marry a human.
This is essentially a children's series so I think extra marital sex is a taboo they will stay away from.
