  • The Dragon Prince theory! With the revelations and abilities of Callum and Ezran that skew towards them being more magically inclined than the average human in the world of the series, it causes us to question their heritage - and if these two are actually half-magic!

    Having Callum be half human or born with magic takes away from the importance of him learning the sky arcanum. The reason his accomplishment is special is because he worked toward it and figured it out. If he only was able to figure it out because he was born with it, then his effort really was just a facade for his birth given gifts.

      @@park0urdave924 Agreed. Callum (unlike every other human who uses magic), worked to utilise the true essence of magic, using the world as a primal stone to perform a feat thought impossible. However if they do go the "Callum is part magic" route they may be able to give a convincing story for it. Perhaps that humans could at one point use magic, but lost the ability after utilising dark magic or something.

    I like to think that humans in The Dragon Prince are a blank slate and capable to wield all types of magic in comparison to magic creatures that born with a specific type. Trens Gemini maybe humans did at one time have the knowledge hence all the ancient magical books and spells but there was a natural avenue to magic for humans like becoming attuned to the arcanums first. Maybe some humans didn’t like that they weren’t attuned to any of the arcanums and started sacrificing magical creatures (dark magic) to in a way level the playing field. Then were therefore stripped of this knowledge and banished.

      except humans are not directly attuned to any arcanum... animals and elves are born with an affinity towards a particular arcanum... humans (including ezran and callum) are not... however an understanding for the arcanum can happen and when that happens they can awaken their ability to use that arcanum... it wasn't until callum fully understood the sky arcanum that he was able to wield it (and because the feeling cannot be put into words it is very hard for humans to understand which is why it has never happened before) this means that anyone can learn magic as long as they understand the arcanum it belongs to.

      I should also say that for magical creatures like elves the arcanum seems to come instinctively for them, in other words they have an instinctive understanding of their primal source (which partially explains why Lujanne and Rayla have such difficulty putting it into words). I think that the show will not go with a Steven Universe kind of bloodline logic but will follow its moralist angle against the exploitation that is Dark Magic as well as against the divide between humans and elves.
    Claudia has stressed that she practices the "magic that humans can do". But what if that's just wrong?
    What if Callum is not unique by birth but is simply the first human to grasp an aspect of primal magic because nobody ever taught humans how and most Elves are barely aware why they can do it?
    He has been getting in touch with it from all angles to reach a breakthrough only after he was informed of how the way in which such a connection can be achieved.
    This makes for a much more compelling story if it's breaking down a barrier for humanity, not just for him. Because it means humans are not the ugly ducklings they think themselves but they can connect to the storm, the moon, the fire by embracing their full nature as part of what humans are, or can be.
    This would erase the big dividing line between the two parts of the world and Callum would not just deliver the dragon prince, but also the storm to mankind.
    I will admit that Ez and his peculiar talent to speak to animals do not fit so readily into this, but it may well be a hint at the hidden magic of humans. Maybe there are many humans who notice uncanny talents in this world but don't chalk them up to magic powers because magic is scary and for Elves, not to mention the unnatural things sorcerers get up to.
    What if humans can naturally drift towards elements but they are not aware that they are getting in grasping distance of something big? They just get sea legs or have a knack with firing up the stove, they think.

    • @hyikoufang3726
      @hyikoufang3726 5 років тому

      that would explain how a blind sea captain can easily steer a ship even in a bad storm. sure you could say he "knows" the wind, but the sea is not so predictable. and the bird can only go so far in helping with that. I think that humans always had the capability, but, like humans, they want an easy way and so rather than try and connect, like Callum or the sea captain i(n a diff way than actual magic, of course), they simply say they can't do it, or use the immediate Dark magic. Or humans are just given a more subtle magic ability, that most would never know was magical, like being able to have a knack for fighting or talking to animals.

    • @BrokensoulRider
      @BrokensoulRider 5 років тому

      @@hyikoufang3726 The captain was more connected to the ocean primordial magic, actually, if you really look at how he moves the ship around. That's never been a sky thing; he is of the sea. BUT that principle he gave Callum goes to not just the ocean or sky arcanums; it goes to all seven. As much as I hate to say it, even dark magic is a primordial thing, though we would normally call what they do necromancy, as that does draw on life to understand it. Claudia did put dark magic into a very interesting way when she explained it to Callum in season 2. Unlike her father, she's one of the few that possibly know that, while she must take life to channel such magics, she has a sharp sense of respect for all that's around her.
      As for humans and magic, in real life we all have a potential for something akin to what a lot of our fantasy stories have in terms of magic. If you look to the Buddhists, the Hindus and many other cultures that had sages, they all were capable of connecting with the world around them but it took time. Weeks if not years. Callum was more connected already because he quickly found it, which is rare but, quite frankly, only another way to show that he's going to be one of the grand mages of myth and legend in this world.

      Arcanum Elite I don’t think this accurate... Claudia was able to steal the youth and health of deer and give it to Soren, when deer aren’t even magical creatures. They didn’t have an Arcanum. I find it more likely that Dark Magic itself is a Primal source that humans are connected to (though maybe they weren’t ALWAYS connected to it). And that it gives them power in return by stealing or destroying something else. Some aspect of life. After all, Darkness is more Primal then ANY of the other primal sources. I dislike the idea that theyre half breeds. If they are it remains true that humans cannot do primal magic. Therefore, the use of dark magic is still justified. Maybe dark magic is the magic humans are inately capable of using. Maybe we humans are the only creatures dark enough to inately be able to use dark magic. Clearly using dark magic has affects on the human body. It isnt as simple as you squish some bug you cast a spell, there is some imput from the caster of something. When callum used dark magic it put him in a coma. It sapped him of something and something in his dreams tried to convince him to accept the dark magic. What would have happened if he did, would he learn what dark magic truly is.

      To add to that the distaste and hatred elves have for dark magic makes no sense, they clearly are okay with killing. Moonshadow elves known for being assassins... assassins kill people. So they accept a whole class of themselves being assassins but not humans killing for magic? They never say theyre vegan, (as far as I remember) so killing for food is okay. Are magical creatures special? Are they more sentient than other? Claudia killed a deer for its ability to to heal her brother! But wouldnt a hunter just kill it for food? What are the elves opinion on that. What if humans were just hunters and we used left over parts for magic. We couldnt use magic to cheat and just do whatever to fix our problems so we adapted.

    I'm a bit confused by why Lujanne seemed to think Callum couldn't learn primal magic, but then again I don't know how old she is. The creators have already gone out on Twitter and said the only way humans used to be able to learn magic was to appearance under a wizard for many years. This took time, something humans didn't have as much of. The someone developed dark magic as a short cut.
    I wonder what the life span of an elf in the world of The Dragon Prince is. Although Aaravos seems to be quite old, possibly predating the continent being divided. That said I do believe that once it was divided the human primal mages died out and everyone forgot humans could learn primal magic. There seems to be shades of human magic. It's implied that the blind pirate has a connection to sky magic, even if he can't outright cast spells he does seem to know more about what's going on then those who can see.
    I'm personally against Callum being part elf. I don't mind if humans and elves can interbreed or even if he ends up with Rayla eventually, it's just the whole magical lineage thing has been over hyped and in some cases cheapens the thing. Fans were very upset when they found out Ray was not Luke Skywarker's lost lost daughter or even Obi Wan Kenobi's granddaughter. I didn't care, but a lot of people rages about that. I do feel it's best they have humans without any elf blood being able to use magic or at least having some connection to the primal sources.
    Also even the creators aren't sure if Erzan's ablity is magic or not. They didn't seem to be going with that originally.

    If Callum had innate magical property, then wouldn't the Key of Aravos have reacted to him the first time he picked it up? As it was, it only started to unlock as he acquired the arcanum of the storm. I think what Lujanne said is actually a proper interpretation. Elves are born with the Arcanum of their own element ingrained in them. They instinctively know that primal power by heart. But they don't instinctively know that of other elements. Callum is just the first human to be so obsessed with magic, while simultaneously adamant about not wanting to use dark magic, to succeed in understanding the arcanum of storms. As he explains: He has to know it by hand, by body and by mind. This also introduces another component: I think it might be impossible to learn a primal power's Arcanum without first having wielded it through a primal stone. This also opens up story avenues, as Callum is incentivised to seek out other primal stones, and Claudia, with former experience with a Storm stone, could be swayed away from dark magic if she learns the proper ways. I think we'll see Callum go through an Avatar-esque journey of mastering every primal form one by one as the stones cross his path, and he progresses to become a full-fledged human mage, and revolutionises magic in the human kingdoms.

    always pictured it like a cup all magical creatures are born with a cup full of one magic type but humans being an empty cup represents their flexibility allowing them to find a more personal connection to each Primal Magic possibly even using multiple primal source's something magical creatures might not be able to do an empty cup can hold more then a full one
    not to mention each Primal source is dependent on different things normally you can only cast storm magic in a storm and so on being able to tap into multiple Primal sources might even give humans an advantage over magical creatures only one person known to master multiple sources was an elf so it shows it can be done that we don't know if all magical creatures can do it maybe just elves
    and if we remember they grew up in a castle Storm Dragon egg in it we don't know about magical exposure but this could affect why the younger Prince can talk to animals having spent almost all of his life around a dragon egg and could have influenced the older Prince towards Sky Magic

    This is a theory I think is silly, magic is clearly performed with a connection to a source, this connection is made using a certain ideology. Clearly magic in this world is rooted in your understanding of the world, the brothers have cultivated specific, unique understandings of the world among humans, and so have extraordinary abilities among humans.

      @@K.UA-cam2 I dont know that they are born with it, but the way anyone with magic has talked about magic, it seems to be about a state of mind. On further thought (and this somewhat disagrees with my earlier post, because I have thought more about it), I think magic is connected to a way of viewing the world, that is how you fully access a magical source, but everyone is probably born with a connection to every source. The connection is probably stronger or weaker for different sources different people and animals. Humans have a weak connection when they are born, and it is through the mental state they can access those sources at all, while elves and magical creatures are more easily connected, allowing them to perform simple magic (like turning invisible on the night of the full moon) without the state of mind required to for instance continually manifest fake scary monsters on a mountain. you are born with a connection, you can access that connection in accordance with it's strength, certain understanding and intuition can strengthen that connection.

    Watching Callum experience his dark magic induced dream, makes me wonder if the other dark magic users went through a similar experience. When Callum encountered himself, trying to convince him that dark magic is his only option, I wonder if Viren or Claudia went through a similar situation, but believed that was truth and therefore weren't able to learn primal magic. This might explain why Callum is the first human to learn primal magic.
    Or was it simply that Callum didn't want to learn dark magic, only primal magic. Period. And therefore, fought against the deception of dark magic influence. (Kinda like the Dark Side of the Force)

    If Callum has Xadian blood, doesn't that undermine the importance of the bridge between humans and Xadians? The main point of the show is uniting the two sides of the continent- if Callum isn't entirely human, then he and Rayla aren't a groundbreaking connection between worlds, the return of Zym wasn't as meaningful since it didn't come from human and elf uniting and working together, and the importance of Callum being a human mage is undermined as well if he isn't quite human. Besides, he has no nonhuman physical characteristics.

    That an easy explanation to their powers but when it comes to callum i would like it if he did it through his own power, not by blood. His arc is about how humans innately can't use magic and the frustration he gets from that, if he used magic simply by truely unlocking it; then i feel it shows that he truly has beaten dark magic. That humans don't have to use dark magic, the easy way for them to use magic and something he disapproves of, and that if they put in effort then they too can use magic.

    I have thought about this idea. Then again, it was also implied that Captain Villads had his own connection to the sky arcanum. So maybe the latent potential does exist in humans.
    But another thing to consider is that The Dragon Prince takes after Avatar in some respects. In that show we see people develop new forms of Bending, like bloodbending and metalbending that were previously not thought to be possible.

    i think it is nothing like that, it is more like "you had it in you the whle time", actually, i think every human has/had it, but due to their greed they lost it a long time ago, way before discovering dark magic, it was so long ago that not even legends survived of ancient time that humans used magic like anything else, both princes (is that right?) are good, they both like to help and avoid doing harm, so it is not strange that "magic" within them is not completely null, for sure they will learn that as time goes by and they will get better ate their abillitie and even learn new ones

    hold on. on the dragon prince website, it says that earth magic is divided into 2 categories: the actual earth/soil/minerals, and flora/fauna. could Ezran have been born with a latent affinity for earth magic, and not even know it due to his human upbringing? This would make even more sense if he was part magical creature, as he only seems to be able to do a specific area of magic in a small, even unnoticeable amount. I wonder, if I go through the series again, if there is anything connecting Ezran to earth magic. Furthermore, did we see him talk to the parrot at all? Not sure if that parrot would be considered land or sea seeing as his owner has an affinity for the sea. However, I wonder if Ezran would be able to talk to sea creatures as well.

  • @VirtuesOfSin
    @VirtuesOfSin 5 років тому

    My Theory is the same as Callum's Theory. As explained in the series, all Creatures (except for Humans* [more on that later]) are born with an innate connection to an Arcanum. Moon magic is the idea that "Seeing does not mean things are real, and all that I see is only an illusion created by myself to persevere the world" and by accepting that Arcanum FULLY AND COMPLETELY, they have the ability to use Moon Magic to alter the perceptions of others, hence why Moon Magic is illusionary magic.
    Storm Magic is the "Everything is interconnected, and you must embrace everything with all of who you are". Callum was on his death bed and at the edge of life due to his rejection of dark magic influence after he used it, until he learned to breath and connect to everything of the world and viewing the world as one big primal stone - Hence his ability to connect to the Storm Arcanum. I believe he was the first human who was able to go to the extremes necessary to connect with an Arcanum without having been born with an innate connection (As proven possible in the past with said Moon Elf using anything but Moon Magic).
    Additionally, I believe that Dark Arcanum is the essence of void and nothingness - basically a giant black hole that sucks everything inside of it to gain more power (hence almost all Dark Magic wielders are on the edge of sanity or completely power hungry). There isn't any evidence to this, but I think the Dark Arcanum's void prevents anyone who connects with the Dark Arcanum's influence to be prevented from connecting to any other Arcanum's influence. I do believe Callum will learn and wield Dark Magic, but like Aang with Fire Bending, it will be the last form of Magic he learns and learns the "truth" of Dark Magic rather than the cheep substitute that humans use. The reasons why Human's can so easily connect to the Dark Arcanum is that they have nothing at all, and the Dark Arcanum can easily draw them in and influence them as opposed to other beings that already have an innate connection to other primal Arcanum.
    The whole dark magic thing is just a theory with no substance to support it, but it would be cool.

    It was confirmed by the creators that humans can use primal magic but it take years of studying and understanding the Arcamun to even use magic. So if a human wants to learn magic they would need an accomplish wizard/mage to teach them. Dark magic was a short cut to using magic. Maybe that might be some magic in Callum's and Ezran's blood but it has to be someone further down in the linage on their mother's side.

    Honestly, I think than humans can learn magic but they need a lot of effort and studying to do so as they are no longer in Zadia- a land FULL of magic which would explain why elves and the magical creatures born there already possess an affinity for magic. Callum and Ezran simply learned and developed it with Callum having an affinity for the Sky arcanum and Ezran having one for the Earth- the ability to communicate with animal life. We see Callum's journey in learning it and Ezran's in the fact that each new creature he communicates with is a new experience that he has to learn and adapt to.

    This is a pretty popular theory since season 1, but I think Callum and/or Ezran being part elf would dilute the themes of TDP. The explanation that access to primal magic is based on knowledge that is simply inborn in magical creatures but can be learned if not necessarily taught in words is pretty solidly canon. This means that even if humans are not born with primal magic knowledge they can learn it with effort. Dark magic and primal stones are the easy path, though, which is why it became popular among naturally lazy humans. Callum even notes his discomfort with how easy dark magic is. The theme here is that humans have to put in hard effort to do magic the right way and eschew dark magic. For Ezran, his abilities don’t even make sense for elves, so I think it’s more a personal quirk than anything due to a species trait, unless Harrow is part of some previously unknown species.

  • @auo7919
    @auo7919 5 років тому

    I think that Callum’s mother is normal, and that his biological dad is somehow connected to magic, and I also think Ezran got his “animal talking power” from his father because you can see that the Father talks to the bird like they actually understand each other. (So basically Ezran and Callum’s powers are separate)

  • @josephm1059

    If they were half magic I think it would take away the impact of Callum's whole journey to learn sky magic. He was the underdog with no natural talent for magic, but he worked really hard and went on a spiritual journey to gain his abilities. If he was actually magically inclined that would make the whole storyline less impactful overall.

  • @irontemplar6222

    Honestly their are two or 3three outcomes I would like to potentially see.
    1. That the princes are half elves or perhaps quarter elves or something, and that explains their magical talent.
    2. Humans have always been able to do magic, but the elves have always been keeping humans from finding out, intentionally sabotaging those who tried. And keeping up the lie that no human can, than any who happen to learn they quietly put down without anyone knowing. Thus Callum discovering this is not only a massive discovery but also a new risk. Callum might get attacked in xadia, in fact they might outright try to have him assassinated for his discovery.
    Option 3 this is a new discovery that happened do to the mix of dark magic which allowed Callum to connect to the arcanaum. And this discovery agian will cause the elves to want to kill them.
    I base the wanting to kill or capture Callum based on why they threw the humans out of xadia to the mostly non magical shit continent. Quite frankly dark magic dosnt do anything reprehensible or even evil. So looking at it from a marcivellian perspective, the elves are trying to deny the humans power while incresing their own. Before they likely kept humans as more or less a servant species. (Hell even the benevolant moon sorcerers treated Callum like he was a puppy not a person) and once they discovered dark magic in xadia they changed the balance of power in favor of humanity and perhaps it even allowed humans to learn primal magic. Because of this the wolves force humanity to shit continent with little magic to ensure they would always be weaker than the elves.

    I'm not sure how I'd feel if Callum was a half breed.....it would just feel like a bad twist. Or not bad, but lazy. It would also feel too much like Zuko's family relations in Avatar, and this show does draw too much from Avatar the Last Airbender already at least I think it does. What I mean by that, is that Zuko has both the blood of his own family, Ozai, Sozen, etc as WELL as the blood of the Avatar, Avatar Roku within him as well. It made his personal journey through the series all the more poignant and meaningful.
    Here, it wouldn't be a big "holy shit moment" it would be seen a mile away if Callum and Ezran were half elves. If Sol Ragem allows Callum into Xadia with no issues, having sensed his magic, then I'll probably scream because that would mean this theory to be true lol. I have mixed feelings on this show drawing a LOT, and I mean A LOT from Avatar the Last Airbender, but it is a good show, so I guess I don't mind if it's done well. I dunno does this make any sense to anyone? lol

(The evil star touched elf person in the mirror) The king also mentioned something about Calum maybe being the one to unlock it! And, if you wanna use the theory of Calum's mother being descended from elves, another way that could tie into the cube is if she was descended from Eravos? (I’m hope I spelt that correctly) since the kings letter mentioned that it belonged to him?

  • @konradcasler9197

    I think it’s more likely to have the elvish decent be on harrow’s side. I think the royal line for some if not all of the five kingdoms is descended from. That could have gifted the original kings inhuman strength or speed solidifying their position. I think calum’s magical affinity stems from his affection for Claudia but deepened when he used the primal stone. This leaves ezran’s power to be a trace of his magical heritage.
    If the magic did come from his mothers side then I think she is the grand child or great grand child of an elf. Close enough that her sister has improved physical capabilities and her sons have magic in their blood, but far enough down the line that any physical traits are not apparent and it’s no surprise that she has no noticeable differences from other humans.
    It is unusual that she and her sister were trained in combat. We do not see any other female warriors excepting the queens. This suggests she to has an elf’s physical prowess.
    If both are true that explains the queens and why ezran’s gift is more naturally accesible.

    I heard a theory that Elarion is the ancestor of King Harrow and that she and her past have practice magic with Aaravos. If you recall it did say that at some point that the key of Aavaros was passed down through King Harrows family from a *female ancestor* and perhaps she was the first one to have this. Now that would only explain why Ezran can do some sort of magic and not Callum but still an interesting Theory.
    I honestly hope that Callum does not have a elf ancestor or half elf himself from his father's side or what not. Would just be main character bullshit and completely takes away from the fact that Callum didn't have to work hard because it was always in his blood cuz he's not human. It would be better if it just turns out that all humans could have practice Primal magic but they just have to work harder than elfs and they're lazy so they decide that dark magic was easier than having to work hard that would make a lot more sense than Callum being half elf

  • @hirozero3185

    Good points about their mothers mystery backstory. But for a theory explanation on why they have these skills, Ezrin and Callum have two very different magic powers. To use primal magic and to talk to animals? If their mother was the one with magic, or was half elf, it would only raise more questions. The elves, aside from the one mirror guy, seem to only really use their own magic, so how would she have two very different skills of wind and speech?
    I think Callums father could be the link to how Callum uses magic, if you want to throw away the theory that anyone can use primal magic if they connect to the primal source. We know nothing about Callums birth father, and it's possible that even Amaya doesn't know anything about this guy. (Or she does, and that's part of why she hates magic so much? Elf dude got her sister pregrant and then left?)
    But for Ezrin? It's a little harder to explain? I haven't watched Season One in a long time, but from what I remember, King Harrow seemed to have a strange connection with his bird. It could be that the power to commune with animals is a family trait, that has been dorment for many generations, and has awoken to full strength in Ezrin.
    Just my thoughts, though... I'd personally like to see Callum have learned magic on his own merit, instead of being part elf. It makes a good opening, for him to teach Claudia and help her with her redemption.

    I do like this theory but the showrunners have said that humans could use Primal Magic in the past if they really took the time to study it however Dark Magic came along and being a magical shortcut it was obviously easier for humans to use. At that point I'm guessing that over time they forgot about being able to use Primal magic and Callum was the only human in Centuries to really stop and think 'I know it's possible to use Primal Magic' and connect with it.
    I do think there's something magical about their mum though, I don't think she could use magic but she's definitely the common denominator. Maybe she was fascinated by magic and studied it.

    Maybe Ezran's "magical ability" is his disney princess powers aka the ability to talk to other animals or maybe callums father was an elf or some other magical creature, idk thats my theory

    What If Callum Learns All Primal Magics ( Except The 7th Source ) Just Like Aaravos. What If He'll Go To Lujanne And Show Her That He Can Do Magic And She Will Willingly Teach Teach Him " Very Well " She'll Said And Then He ( Callum ) Went To Find Where Aaravos Is.
