- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- For this One Day Build, Adam Savage builds the head for his grizzly bear costume from Comic-Con 2016! Adam explains how he sketched out the design for the character, how he experimented with its forms, and how the suit comes together. But the head is the most important part!

This was dope.
I agree
Your a furry now
You made this with your Bear hands?
Fifth to talkz
I don't think we saw enough of Adam's nerdy genius on Mythbusters.
I think this better than MythBusters
Rain royale so write
@@ZoeningOut this *is* better* not this better
Amy Reiss right*
C.o.R we all understood. No correction was needed.
Oh definitely
Comic-con 2018, Adam slaps a Red shirt on the bear and calls it Winnie the Pooh.
Winnie the poop.
Lololololololo
But, comic co 2020 it has a robotic arm and eye.
Somewhere in the wild there’s a bear making a human suit.
With real human skin...
"It's really tough to get the personality right! " - the bear probably
Ewewew
That's a terrifying thoaght.
And their name is Adam Tame.
From what I understand about taxidermy, at least from what I picked up through osmosis as a kid, the taxidermy eyes are usually meant to be used alongside what is essentially sculpting clay to mold features like eyelids, wrinkles, and so on, so that they don't look so... comedic, on the finished product. The clay really gives some much-needed shaping that I don't think easily translates to fabric or even thermal plastics.
The cut in the fabric achieves a similar, and very suitable effect, especially for keeping the suit light-weight.
Ok I know this is like two years too late but as a cosplayer with an almost ocd obsession over every detail and every construction aspect (I only sew, nothing as crazy as this) your level of attention to those details just made my soul sing. Commencing channel binge watch while I sculpt some vamp prosthetics!!
Honestly, opposite for me. I am a cosplayer that will throw something away if it is not perfect. I loved this project, because you have so much freedom, you can change it because all bears are different
I feel like he should have used darker fur, that color gives off more 'bear and the big blue house' vibes than actual grizzly bear
Amanda, this is very true, I also feel like the stomach was a bit to big and the head felt small and out of place in comparison
Yeah
Thought that's what he was making in the thumbnail
@@controlZchannel me too!
You just crush a mans dreams like that?
This video was REALLY well put together. Props to the film and editor.
Yeah, it felt much better than previous one day builds. It shows how important post editing is on the overall quality of the finished product.
I know right quality video right here
Agreed! Visual and sound design were tops this time around :D really enjoyed the music too, nice change to the usual general tool sounds from other ODBs
Agreed. Great format. I'm not sure how much prompting Adam required but it's fun. You feel like you were actually there. Would love to do a old world Doctor Who monster. :-)
It is isn't it?! One of my favorite parts was how Adam always showed his tiny tips and shortcuts he learned over the years. He used to explain it in detail but now they managed to just show us these tiny things. For example, him having a wheel round stool so he can adjust the height without having a big chair in a small space. I enjoyed this video very much! Also note that he has racks and boxes for everything but his laptop is just upside down in a container!
*pulls bag of bear jaws and eye out of nowhere
hmm ok you just got an answer to everything wise guy?
*30 minutes of Adam making a fursuit without saying the word*
You mean afurry
No he is building a fursuit
Twitch Drawz furry
Congratulations. Your Adam has changed into a bear.
Umm, guys in the comments, that is a fursuit, not just a furry
22:50 "Bear, bear is looking like bear !" just needs more glue in there to secu- *breaks Bear's jaw*
jaiden91 lmao
IKR Lmfao
Every person who's ever made any kind of costume knows that feeling.....
Eyes look like oatmeal 🤣
Sooo... when I woke up this morning, I never thought that the first thing I was gonna do was watch one of my greatest role models giving a haircut to a bear costume.., but here I am.
Zube Tube god d@mn same
It's called a bearcut
1:21 Adam dancing around in his bear costume is something i didn't know i needed in my life
You absolutely have to make a red T-shirt for that thing! It could be Winnie the Pooh!
That would be amazing!
Winnie the Pooh is orang
Yes!!!!!
It's Winnie the Pooh's Dad.
Just make sure you never ever EVER leave that thermoplastic head in a hot car or you'll have to start over! That was a big warning we got in puppet school
Why the fuck would anyone ever go to "puppet school"
@@Leo-hk6qg For puppets. You got a problem?
Yeah that seems like a bad financial decision for little to no benefit/useful knowledge
I, for one, am very interested in the possibility of going to "puppet school". I guess Leo's never seen The Dark Crystal or Labyrinth.
Don't discriminate. Puppets need an education too. #puppetslivesmatter
Now all you need is another smaller bear, a mouse, two otters, a lemur, a shadow, a talking moon with a face, and a big blue house. Then you'll be golden.
Overlandlord I don’t get it
@@bruhmomment2999 This! ua-cam.com/video/enwSyQo8d7k/v-deo.html
Nostalgia lol
@@bruhmomment2999 Bear and the Big Blue House I think. Never seen it but a lot of people are comparing this and the show
Am I the only one who thinks he needs a haunted hotel and a dude in a tux to complete the costume? 😏
all your bear needs now is a bright red shirt and a jar of honey.
nah, a big blue house seems more appropriate
+Dylan Zrim I've been searching for a comment like this! all I can see is Bear in a Bug Blue House when I see this bear!!
+italy morales could have gave it electronic eyebrows that move like the bear in the big blue house lol
+italy morales it's the long neck that does it. he missed some detail on the upper lip but apart from that he did great..
Dylan Zrim yeah I imagine its extremely difficult to make it look truly realistic, its hard to make inanimate things look alive even in drawings (for me anyway lol)
i love seeing the sketches
I love this man's enthusiasm and overall energy, another amazing build Mr. Savage! Well done!
Anyone else thing this is a great base for a realistic Winnie the Pooh? Lol that would be awesome
Green Arrow way to big 😂
Derrick Stenstrom Winnie the Pooh is fat
By awesome, you mean creepy, right?
No
I think this is a gorgeous suit, but I can't help but think that the fur brightness is causing it to be less realistic. Throwing some darker and mixed tones in there would create a closer representation.
That's the cool thing about making something, you're always learning.
Am I the only one that thought of Bear from Bear and the big blue house?
Jessica MacDonald me too!
Samee
Jessica MacDonald nope I also though About him, I used to have stuffed animal of that bear! But can’t find it 😞
Omg I loved that show as a child
I think that was Chewbacca
Today on Tested: Adam Savage shows his bare body
that was *beary funny
+Hank Hill naw, that was bearly even a joke.
I'm sure Adam Savage has a very (beary) stomach on that episode.
Those Puns are unbearable
I can't BEAR this any longer!
28:45 when that dog just rested his head on the bear's shoulder my heart melted
Amazed at how much the eyes changed by setting them back in the costume. They all looked really bad at first, and then looked amazing with such a small tweak.
Absolutely brilliant. Adam is a genius when it comes to engineering and design!
I stumbled on this randomly (from watching the 1959 telecast of Disneyland 59) and really enjoyed it. Not only the process, but the cheerful and fun character of Adam. Plus that awesome workshop!
Aiming for "photo real" is hard, even taxidermy often tends to miss that final little piece. Looking forward to see if there will be improvements made to the face in the coming years :) It's possible that you could have gotten closer to that real feel by altering the color of the fur a bit more.
I agree. Aiming for a photo-realistic bear is really difficult. One thing i noticed that Adam might want to do for further improvements is enlarge the size of the bear's head. Because he's such a big bellied bear, the head looked out of proportion either due to its short fur or small overall size.
+qwicksilver inaccurate upper lip too
We need a Predator or Alien costume bruh that would be amazing
"Easy in and out" he says as he is out of breath trying to get out
bro hes like 62 give him a break
me
isn't the head too small compared to the size of the body?
Ikr and the body isnt that tall grizzly bears average 8 feet tall when standing on there hind legs this guy in the costume is like 6 feet in the costume and the head should be like 5 times bigger. And a polar bear costume may look cooler the average polar bear height is 9 through 12 feet tall when standing there way bigger than grizzly bears.
Also the neck should have draped farther over the body so it blended better. And he kind of ended up with a cool back hump that wasn't continued to the neck.
so cool to see Adam's drawings
wear that bear costume in a furry convention, see the reaction.
FILIADO FILLOUT oof
You made me look up for " Furry convention "
Good luck to me getting rid of it in my you tube recommendation now...
FILADO FILLOUT, sadly I’ve seen a better bear by some furry artist on deviant art. His costume is still really cool though.
Adam Savage: *Makes a high quality and realistic bear costume*
Furries: OwO
Honestly nobody would be mad about it. Its actually a borderline fursuit
Congratulations Adam! You sir, are the only person I know who has had a girlfriend that bought a bear skull for their boyfriend.
It would of been hilarious if he got on all fours and ran around
Adam builds a fur suit
Breon lol
*Adam becomes a furry
A fur suit is a furry thing guy who don't under stand
*adam comes out as a furry - live
Just(A)Theory fursuits are something some furries wear, it’s usually designed to look like their “fursona” or how they’d imagine themselves as an anthropomorphic animal, I like it, I’m a furry, but I don’t wear the fursuit

Guy puts on bear suit = Automatic furry
Wooosh
Sounds about right

I thought that
i paused the video to look for furry comments cause i knew there were going to be some, who ever thought Adam Savage would be a furry! XD RIP jamie
so thats similar to The bear in the big blue house (1997-2003)
MrAnimepredator I loved that show!!!
Star me too
welcome welcome welcome to the big blue house.
This bear is so awesome.
Wow that is a very clever way to make a suit. It looks a more healthy to wear around then the traditional fur suits made of layers of artfully sculpted foam with added fabric and more. As it's very insulated with the foam. So imagine you would need less breaks or increase the time of wearing this bear suit than of a traditional foam fur suit that I've seen?
You can add fans to fursuit muzzles, cooling things, ect. There are ways to stay cool. That bear costume will get hot regardless of how "healthy" it looks
Wtf are u saying

Great fun bear suit but that mold he has came from a black not a grizzly which are alot bigger thats why this suit doesnt look very lifelike because its a brown bear with black bear proportions
It looks like bear in the big blue house.

"The hairs on the arms are shorter than the body hair, as per usual on a bear"
Aah yes, that common bear fact that everyone knows and loves
Edit: "Bears their eyelids are a key part of them" is also a great one
Just some constructive criticism, but I think the neck would've been more convincing if your 'window' was an organic shape and not just a rectangle.
Could've made it a sun bear, they have a v-shaped patch of neck fur that would've been a good place to put it!
They still make corsets? LOL
Note to Adam for future reference: Grizzly fur has more of a gray grizzled appearance, hence the name. :)
Christopher U.S. Smith yeah, they still make corsets. Nowadays they sacrifice the wasp figure, and spare your lungs.
Christopher U.S. Smith also they don't have hair inside their ears
Christopher U.S. Smith yea im pretty sure its a good idea to make it a lil off color bc if he didnt people would think an actual bear is walking round the convention he's at
allllll the time in costuming, especially for stage and screen!
3:50 "There's my bear body..."
Not something I ever expected Adam Savage to say in a Tested video.
OMG is this bear and the big blue house?
Kupa'a Kaleo, I used to love that show
No
Adam , I would love to see you recreate George Barrows iconic gorilla suit. Last I heard it was currently in the archive at UCLA's film school looking a bit worse for wear. Since this project requires the apex of skill, I can't think of anyone more up to the task. Of course if you would need to recruit a partner in this venture, I think Mike Hill could create the perfect facial twin for Mr. Barrows masterpiece. I really love all your presentations. Thank you !
I miss myth busters so glad that Adam is still making content
You have everything a person could ever dream of in youre workshop.
Adam looks like a mom fixing up his son for prom or something.
Oh yeah yeah wow
I would have rolled it around in dirt to make it look more realistic
Super Megalo the fur also needed to be darker. And shorter neck, and higher shoulders, and an overbite.
I wasn't feeling it, but then you took it out for a spin and my mind was blown.. 🤔
him: I'm going to create a really amazing costume of a realistic bear and use expensive fur and cool claws! haha, nobody thought of this.
him: - goes on the internet and finds fursuiters -

fuck on
It’s not a furry because it’s not an anthro character it has no human characteristics so it can’t be a furry
he literally never said that he was the first person in the world to do this
kendraklopfenstein well it stands on two legs...
And he's talking in the bear. But no he's not a furry because I don't think he wants to be one.
how is a bear not humanoid lol
Wow this guy even had to build his own box and storage for the clippers lol instead of just using the original bag. Nice
"This guy"? Who are you?
Man i miss mythbusters, SCREW YOU NETFLIX

WAIT HES THE GUY FROM MYTH BUSTERS! HOW DID I NOT GET THAT
Here is an actual serious question: is it for sale?
@@T0TAL_ECLIPSE when I scroll fast it looks purple
Just a Though but why not widen the neck area. It make it look odd with such a thin neck. At less from the front and back point of view and not side.
I agree. It would look less cartoony if it had a wider neck and cheek area.
It would look better if it looked like a bear, not some bear who has a beer belly.
I think what happened is he didn't make it larger to fit the body. At the beginning he says he made the body bigger then he originally expected however he was so nervous about getting the head perfect based on his original design.
This was incredibly relaxing actually
3: 30 here we observe the annual shedding of Adam Savage as he exits the discarded skin.
You did a nosy job on the first nose and my jaw dropped when the mouth broke.
+BrickForge 787 that joke has been so overdone...
+Dylan Zrim The ranger isn't going to like that, Yogi.
BrickForge 787 Actually, the correct word IS bear, is it not?
Love the reactions of some of the pedestrians. "Nope, I'm not going to look at the strange guy dressed as a bear. I'll just be going on about my business."
It is San Francisco, probably not the strangest thing on the street.
I am a fursuit builder and there where a few times where I was screaming “BE CAREFUL WITH THE FUR!!!” But I had to remind myself that your goal was to make it look as realistic as possible meaning you could make it look quite scraggy and ruffled. Over all great costume and when you finished your walk around and said it was awesome and a lot of fun, that’s exactly how I feel after fursuiting however, I’m all sweaty and gross cause my costumes are not body built the same way rather up against your body haha
I guess when you're living in San Francisco you spent a lot of time looking at bears....Kappa
kek
the layers of this joke make me happy
haha...
Were the bears scared? :-)

U FORGOT THE TAIL!!!!!

Aidan Chiranjiv Singh how many inches now? 2, 8, or 28? two of those options are a little more than nothing lol
@@kreuner11 I think bears have little ball-like tails (kinda like rabbits).
it needs tactical sci-fi armor and heavy weapons!
I love this, I just think it would look a little better if the head was closer to the body. However, I am not the one building it, so I can't be sure what's possible. Looking forward to your next creation!
It looks like Bear in the Big blue house!
Mr.Savage, I can not Thank You Enough for this installment of your channel! Be creative and MAKE the shirt yourself!
+Flynnlives76 you have a point. But it looks like the shirt is in support of something. I would rather support whomever.
+2000jago please refer to the conversation that was just had about that exact topic...
There is a Weta Workshop logo on the sleeve. So it's probably something he got when he visited them in New Zealand. Could be hard to get without a visit yourself.
I wanted to know too lol
Probably my favorite build Sir Adam has done. 🐻
All he had to do was chat with a fursuit maker and this woulda been a lot easier
I was thinking this the entire time.
Where's the fun in that? Why not just order a suit from China?
Yes but it takes him ONE day
That’s not the point of comi-con costumes. They are supposed to be homemade and you get to be proud and show them off at the con.
god my thoughts exactly! He has GREAT ideas for material and construction, but theres just so many bottlenecks and design issues he had that a quick looksy around the net at other costumes and tutorials would have alleviated like immediately. Though for a one-day build its impressive, good fursuits and taxidermy take months or even years to complete for a reason
it needs a little tail thing
When they stand you don't see it and when on all fours it's just a lil puff, hardly even seen.
Every time I watch a one day build, I am watching a master at work.
I need a build guide for the Bear in the Blue house please
At 28:12 I can't the way it looks when it's walking 😂
Also nice work
Okay so he seemed to be going for realism somewhat but he hit it out of the park with character, this suit is perfect as is. When I saw the clips of Adam walking down the street in the costume I could picture a grungey modern sitcom with that bear as the protagonist and no one questions him being a bear. Something like Bojack Horsemen or Wilfred. Incredible work, I'm going to script a story for your bear just for fun
"It just makes it look better" He says as he throws that fur covered bulk around and I'm sitting here saying
"brUS h You RfUCking FURSUi T "
Can you build the beast from beauty and the beast?
Tim S yes and yes and yes and yes and yes plsssss build that
It would be amazing to see him tackle that
This brings me nostalgia of MythBusters and it makes me so happy watching this
All I have to say is at 22:58 it was a jaw dropping experience for that there bear costume
WELCOME TO THE ADAM SAVAGE BEAR BARBER!!
In art class in 10th grade I made a puppet head, but was kind of bummed out when I couldn't make a body. Art teacher didn't have enough materials... I enjoy the whole process and how my project progressed. I'm also quite fascinated with your progress as well. I should start making more puppets now that I see this video.
He could have done some research on realistic heads that fursuiters use and make. That could have helped with different ideas on how to build things. (The eyes used for realistic suits are really good, so are certain cosplay eye parts) Also the fur he used looks very high quality and I want to find the supplier.
My dream custume would be a dragon costume
Look into fursuits, theyre cool. Im sure theres lots of dragon fursuits out there
@@stancurry5265 they are really expensive though
@@breadandbeans8347 I would know, im a furry.

@Horrible content Maker there are fursuits that are hyper realistic. Though they are even more expensive
THAT IS SUPER COOL!! Look at the fur movement! Loved when he danced in it HAHA
Noses on bears in wild do have imperfections from fights, and sun burns, so if you make it perfect it'll look fake. His lower jaw is too thick. Cheeks are more muscular. Go to Juneau Alaska and you can get up close to seeing them fatten up on the Mendenhall Glacier bear viewing outside. You'll be right next to them & they're so focused on feeding on fish they don't notice you. They built a wonderful bear walk path suspended above them, so it's bear proof.
Adam building a realistic fursuit 😂
I hope you addresses the back shape as it had some valleys (maybe it’s the Grinch from grizzly man and it’s just hungry?). Also the neck Line need to be secured. I know you’re a detail master so I’m sure the final was all buttoned up and proper. Oh cool i should have checked out the comicon vid before writing this probably. Let’s check it out now and see what ya did.
I love it. Would be so fun to wear around. The girdle structure is so cool with its lightweight flexuality.
Sometime in the future, you can make yourself a giant red Polo Shirt and be realistic Pooh
Does he know what a furry is?
There is a difference between fursuiters and cosplayers
Sunnixx
I know, I was just asking
Well he's like 50, so probably not. But you never know.
Sunnixx Actually not real. Some like to keep mascot suits/ cosplay animal suits different from fursuits due to the stigmas against the furry fandom but they're really just a subsection.
I wouldn't normally assume that someone over the age of 50 would know what that is, but given Adam knows quite a bit about cosplay and anime I would say at the very least it's likely he knows what a furry is. But what really convinces me that he probably knows what furries are is that in his TED talk he talks about how cosplaying gives the wearer a way to become another character that creates an immersive experience between the cosplayer and the onlooker, which most fursuiters will tell you that's why they do it.
Given how positively Adam has talked about cosplaying and why he thinks it's a good thing, I personally believe he knows very well what furries are.
You never said that Buster was a part of your costume. It is a great costume indeed. Always top job by you Adam Savage. Never letting down your audience. Keep it up. Lots of admiration from Greece!
