You helped me so much figure out how to make my little brothers Totoro, instead of the camera system cause it was for such a small con, we figured out that we could fake the nose and used that as his way of seeing out. It turned out wonderfully. thank you, Love watching your work, keep at it!
As an amateur seamstress, I love seeing Adam with buckets of quilting clips, bolts of muslin, and the exact same machine I use. It's so wonderful seeing people outside of the direct sewing community using and respecting my craft as something more than 'a granny thing'.
First, no need to be agressive. You can tell your point without attacking people you know? Attacking only discredits your point. As for the music part, yes, there is music in some parts (time lapse, parts where Adam doesn't have much to say/ isn't doing anything specfic) but there are also a lot of moments where there is absolutely no music where other channels would had put some. (The fur side selection, while he is doing the frame, etc.) That kind of thing shows the mastery of Tested on attention span and their knowledge of their audience. They know that the audience of the One Day Builds are entertained by Adam's explanations and the sound of his workshop tools. Thus the lack of music for those parts.
I know that most find it a minor detail with the claws being bendy an thus safe for the people around him, but its nice he's considerate about outhers around him becuse I've been snagged, bruised and even stabbed by cosplayers costumes. Hey Adam, if you use that support structure for costumes in the future, you probably want to consider running some foam over the band of metal that runs in front of your mouth. If you were to have a fall you would be really grateful for the 30 seconds you took to glue something a little protective on there. Also, if you ever want to wear a big costume like this in a really high temperature, have a look into cooling vests. I use one for medical reasons, but I reckon they would be great for keeping comfortable doing something like this too :D
Seriously love your work. From the passion and your obvious skills coupled with years of experience, watching you create functional art (FART) is inspiring and a joy to watch. I wish we had videos like yours back in the 70s/80s. Keep it up!
Hi Adam, great job on creating Totoro! While watching you create this, I saw you using an Exacto knife to cut your fabric. As a quilter and seamstress, I wanted to suggest you buy yourself a rotary cutter. It will make cutting fabric for projects like this much easier for you. Make sure you get a cutting mat as well to use with the cutter. I loved watching your creation come to life. Kudos!!
He's using an exacto knife because that's the best way to cut fur. It cuts the foundational fabric without cutting the fur and making it look all jagged along the seams.
When cutting fur you're only supposed to cut the backing, not the actual hair, to prevent even more fur flying around or weird bald patches at the seams... So an Exacto knife or a razor blade work really well. A rotary cutter is nice if you're working with very fine fabrics that easily shift or have to cut loads of straight lines.

Watching these one day builds is so relaxing and therapeutic to me. I often watch this particular video to fall asleep. Not that it’s boring, but I’ve seen it easily 30 or more times. It relaxes me.
Yeessssss one day build is back!!! omg those giggles... gets me every time. I still hate how these "one" day builds for Adam would take me weeks maybe. Or more. Probably after 2 weeks I'd give up and then my already packed messy apartment will be even more packed with junk and messy...
adam savage has been one of my favorite people since i and the rest of my family first discovered "myth busters" i miss that show to death and i believe adam is cosplay king
This is my favorite One Day Build! So many different techniques were used, everything was customized with precision and so unique. . . PLUS Adam was 100% giddy the whole build:) So nice to see that a maker who's been making awesome stuff for many years can still out do his own expectations and fill himself with delight.
IamBatnerd 26 don't get so butt hurt over a dumb comment, it doesn't effect your life in any if I say something I think is funny. Adam is very detail oriented do I bet it would bug him too is all I was saying, just funny he forgot it. I really don't give a shit regardless
it would have been cool if he had backed the fur on the arms and legs with a layer or two of wadding to give them a little more density because they just kinda look like flacid hairy tubes of fabric when compared to the level of structure of the rest of the body. also, just another thought, maybe it would have been worth exploring taking it a little further into puppeteering territory and having a single rod (possibly PVC piping with a layer of foam simply tied around it) in each arm that was somehow mounted and suspended inside the costume similarly to how an oar on a rowboat is attached to the boat, so Adam could have the option of controlling and flapping the arms about while not constricting his own arms in furry sleeves. it would probably make it a 1.25 day build, but still would be cool to see because Adam obviously has a giant crush on the Henson creature shop.
This is so awesome. I had a roommate that was a costumer for a theater. All I can think about is how much she would be going insane watching this. Ha ha.

This was really relaxing to watch, I can already tell I'm going to be binge watching all Adam's videos 😂😂
He is such a nerdy kid at heart. I love him.
Seeing you get so giddy and excited gives me so much life!!!! I couldn't help but laugh and jump around with you!!!
I WORK IN COSTUMES THANK YOU FOR THE SHOUTOUT BC I FEEL LIKE SO MANY PPL THINK OUR JOB IS SO MUCH EASIER THAN SCENIC/PAINT/PROPS/ETC !!!
Your next Comic Con build should be Baymax. Your costumes keep getting larger and rounder, Baymax is just the next level!
Watching these one day builds is so relaxing and therapeutic to me. I often watch this particular video to fall asleep. Not that it’s boring, but I’ve seen it easily 30 or more times. It relaxes me.
Adam Savage is the Bob Ross of cosplay.
Yeessssss one day build is back!!!
omg those giggles... gets me every time.
I still hate how these "one" day builds for Adam would take me weeks maybe. Or more. Probably after 2 weeks I'd give up and then my already packed messy apartment will be even more packed with junk and messy...
Seeing how happy you were with your own work is the level of confidence I hope to achieve one day. Actually made me smile too.
adam savage has been one of my favorite people since i and the rest of my family first discovered "myth busters"
i miss that show to death and i believe adam is cosplay king

Life as a virgin in a fur-suit.
Bismuth83 most furries then?

This is my favorite One Day Build! So many different techniques were used, everything was customized with precision and so unique. . . PLUS Adam was 100% giddy the whole build:) So nice to see that a maker who's been making awesome stuff for many years can still out do his own expectations and fill himself with delight.
Ahhh!!! Totoro has a tail Adam!!
And a mouth
The mouth isn't much of an issue as the tail.
Don't get so butt hurt over a numb character's tail, it has no effect on any of your lives that the totoro doesn't have a tail
IamBatnerd 26 don't get so butt hurt over a dumb comment, it doesn't effect your life in any if I say something I think is funny. Adam is very detail oriented do I bet it would bug him too is all I was saying, just funny he forgot it. I really don't give a shit regardless
Talon C he based it on his toy which had no tail
it would have been cool if he had backed the fur on the arms and legs with a layer or two of wadding to give them a little more density because they just kinda look like flacid hairy tubes of fabric when compared to the level of structure of the rest of the body. also, just another thought, maybe it would have been worth exploring taking it a little further into puppeteering territory and having a single rod (possibly PVC piping with a layer of foam simply tied around it) in each arm that was somehow mounted and suspended inside the costume similarly to how an oar on a rowboat is attached to the boat, so Adam could have the option of controlling and flapping the arms about while not constricting his own arms in furry sleeves. it would probably make it a 1.25 day build, but still would be cool to see because Adam obviously has a giant crush on the Henson creature shop.
great suggestions.
flaccid hairy tubes

"You're a handsome boy"
Me: *has a cat named totoro who is grey with a white tummy and just thinks about him dressing up my cat to be a handsome boy*
This is so awesome. I had a roommate that was a costumer for a theater. All I can think about is how much she would be going insane watching this. Ha ha.
Really liked this video, I thought the editing was especially good on this one & the music @ 12:45 was a great touch as well... GOD BLESS us all....
drowization yeah the editing-quality of tested videos when down for awhile but this appears to be a comeback to greatness
The pure joy is infectious! I’m watching this chuckling away to myself
