In a related video, learn how to correctly waterproof the corner shower bench.
Enjoy!
Finally, someone who isn't so in love with their own voice that they make a 5 minute How to last 30 minutes.. Excellent how to!
haha thanks Scott! We try to only communicate what is actually important and not add fluff. Thanks!
Great video man. This is exactly what I was looking for.
For a very tiny behind...lol. Good video.
Why do you need liquid nails if you are using screws? Also, how do you determine the slope needed for the top of the seat? It looks like you attached some backing a bit higher than the seat, to create the slope. But wouldn't the wood need to be tapered in a way that makes the attachment of the cement board flush? About to build one at my home, thanks for the video and the help!!!
Very nice job! I'm looking to emulate this but with a slightly larger seating area. Not to be critical at all, but why did you hardiboard it BEFORE the rubber shower pan liner? In other words... i can't see what you would do with this after you put the shower pan liner in? Did you put a second hardiboard after the rubber shower pan liner? If so, is that really necessary? Because one does not do that with the other walls of the shower.
Hi JBrowninKC! Thank you for the comment! We did the hardiboard before because we use a different waterproofing system. We us the bonded polyethylene waterproofing membrane system. The difference here is that the membrane is the last thing to go on before you time to ensure a full waterproofing shower. A pan liner only provides minimal protections for the floor area that it covers, as long as the install isn't done with nails. The membrane system allows us to completely install the mudbed, or any other pre-sloped flooring system done before we waterproof so that the mudbed doesn't hold water and cause mold growth. Keep watching our other video's in the playlist to help show you the full waterproofing process. Thanks again!
Thank you for this video! Great tutorial. Not sure if this is a lost cause, but our contractor already had the shower pan put it, and is now stumped on how to create a very small corner bench with one of the walls being an exterior wall, and one being a half-wall. Any thoughts on how this could be done? Thanks for any help you can give!
Hi Whitney,
If the shower pan is a polystyrene tray, he can cut it out in the area where the bench will be and start fresh on the floor. If he already installed a rubber shower pan liner, he can easily pull it up in the corner and then build the bench.
I hope that helps
Matt
Thank you! It is a rubber liner, but that's good news. I think he's stumped on how to attach the bench on an exterior wall. Is there an easy answer to that?
Hi Whitney,
He just needs to watch the video because that is exactly what I do in the video. I show how to add blocking between the wall studs, then proceeding as shown in the video.
I hope that helps.
Why didn't you slope the bench to mitigate water accumulation?
You would create the slope in the tiling phase. You only need about a 2-degree slope to keep water off.
@@Rocky1115 whats the best way to slope the tile
@@Rocky1115 We are working on our shower right now. How do you created the slope in the tiling phase? Do you just put a thicker amount of mortar down in the back of the shower seat?
@@wisegirl99 Yep, that's what I did. What I did was I took a 1' level and, from front to back, I let the bubble touch the inner line of the level. You don't need much of a slope to drain water properly.
That bench is too small for my big butt. Looks more like somewhere to put your soap on. You didn't even fit comfortably.
Sheetrock in a shower wall ? Say what ?
That's cement board.
Not impressed by anyone who uses a $10 plastic level - case in point, look at the 2X3 on the right side edge of seat - out of plumb more than an inch.
I don't know what to say .. I just don't
Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. If you could please explain what you mean. We ask all our commenter's to provide value and substance when commenting.
I would be happy answer any questions you may have, thank you for your comment and time!
that shower bench is a joke.
If you could please explain... not sure if your saying the structure of the bench isn't quality or if you just don't like the size. We ask all our commenter's to provide value and substance when commenting.
Thank you for your comment and opinion!
Not big enough.
@@edsmind7560 lots of women just want a step for shaving, I get this all the time
Sooo, when you tile?
You doing custom shower base? Cause you know you gonna need water proof membrane. Thus is a very incomplete "how to"..
