I also heard a voice interject what sounded like supportive words, when you were lifting the large window frame and using the pry bar. It sent a shiver up my back.
The house looks great from Broadway! I visited Galveston today to visit the bishop's palace and saw all of the hard work being put into the league house, it looks so much cleaner compared to a few years ago. Can't wait to take a tour of the house soon :)
Thanks. We think the outside is looking much better too. I'd love to get even the front facia painted and a few shutters repaired. All in good time. If you follow us on facebook we will be posting schedules each week for days we are open for tours. We hope to see you soon!
Did anyone else hear different voices other than our hostess voice when she was talking on this video? When she hammered the tank holder and when she was in the kitchen working ?
Janie and Jo, thank you so much for the tour today. It was such a treat to meet you both and get to see your beautiful project. It is and will be stunning. We can't wait to come next year to see the progress in person again. Thank you for your passion. You're living my dream and I get to live it vicariously.
They did not fool around in those days. HUGE windows! Detailed EVERYTHING. Even the kitchen. While you make the spaces in the house safe for visitors, I’ve made sure to watch all the ads. I remember thinking about how it doesn’t matter how long the ads are when you mentioned bringing in revenue for visitors, and I got back-to-back a 3 min trailer followed by a FIVE minute ad that showed you exactly how they would install the product 😂. Seeing the progress of this beautiful place and your inspiring efforts to revive it make me that much more exited to visit the enriching city of Galveston one day.
When you say you’re working on scripts for the “self guided tours” do you mean audio tours? Or placards of some kind? I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that if you reach a point for “audio tours”, it should be YOU who does the narration. You are the heart and soul of this restoration, and your love of the property comes through as you speak of it. Even the most talented Voice-Over performer could not come close to capturing that.
They are going to be audio tours for each room. It's harder than you would think to condense information down to a minute or so. I am doing the narration (the price is right). Thanks for you confidence in me.
Hi Janie, good luck with the tours, I hope it brings on a good amount of money so the restos can keep moving forward, you are such a hard worker, it's really great seeing all the work you are doing on the house. Wish I could be there for the first tour! All the best from Australia. Cheers, Mike
@@leaguekempnerhouse I hope it's all going well, I'm sure everyone will be excited to see your beautiful house, I know I will be! Your building knowledge astounds me, I wish I knew as much as you! Your restoration is probably the most thorough I've seen! Can't wait to head over there! Cheers, Mike
Umm…. I’m sure there’s an innocent explanation but, you didn’t sound like you were alone in the house.😬 Now to figure out a way to get their help with the heavy lifting!
That was so wierd. I actually scrubbed the audio through a program that is supposed to remove any stray sounds. I'm going to go check the original audio to see if it was there.
FYI - Audio seems to be only in the left channel, when wearing headphones. I've opened a few other YT videos and the audio is correct, so it's definitely something in your recording / editing. Just wanted you to know for future. Also - I typed this mid-video. During the work on the frame (around 11:30), there are some random strange noises/snippets that sound like someone else's voice just popping in while you're speaking / moving things.
Thanks for letting me know. I will check it out. I just started using a new AI software by Adobe to try to improve the audio. Generally, it works well but I'm still learning the best way to use it.
@@leaguekempnerhouse I rewatched the video a couple times too when I thought I heard a woman when you were hammering one screw on the toilet tank and a man on the other screw hahaha... then I heard a man's voice say 'younger' at 15:39. Spooky! 😄
The cistern rings load so its not cracked. 👌The kitchen is a really nice room, and Im a bit surprised by that. The Victorians that built my little town hid the kitchen the back of the house. With little decoration and not a big space at all. Great update 2x👍
It did have a nice ring to it. It made the whole kitchen vibrate. I really edited the volume down for the video on that part. The Bishop's Palace has a kitchen on the main floor but the Moody Mansion has their's in the basement (it is huge and lovely).
Best of luck that the tours go smoothly. Looking forward to seeing some of the Victorian costumes from the event that is coming up. I can see why you like the kitchen space. I could visualize how it may have looked back in the day.
Looking great inside. That metal part looks like it belongs to a fireplace. I would have to label stray parts with type. My memory is not that good.😁 Hope we get to see some video from the fashion show. It sounds like a fun event. 🤗❤️🤍💙
You should label and bundle things together such as the trim pieces from the window casing. Its also important for all those odd parts too also know what they are from for the future as more and more people get involved you won't be able to keep track of everything.
I should label everything the direction my memory is going. I've actually been a little worried about that since some of the work will take a very long time to get complete.
The kitchen is really a nice room, I remember my grandmother having a sink like that, I loved it. Sounds like you have a lot of exciting things coming up. Good luck with all of it! 😊
Perhaps someone with furniture restoration skills could restore your front door. Also, what if some areas were off limits due to work in progress? Then when that area is not an active construction, open it up to be viewed. Then as spaces are completely (haha) finished, you can advertise a reveal. Biltmore House in Asheville, NC opened their spaces up a few at a time. But you all have probably thought of these things. Good luck! I love a good work in progress. Do you think it will take longer to restore the house than it did to build?
Fortnuately, the front door was damaged in a way that it can easily be repaired. I first need to find a locksmith to come remove the dead bold. That's been more of a challange than it should be. I think a reveal would be fun. We've kicked around the idea of even doing fund raising room by room. There are endless possibilities. I love being open as a work in progress so people can tour more than once and see the changes over time. We aren't in any hurry with the restoration so I'm guessing it will take much longer to restore than it did to build. We have to raise money as we go and that takes time. Thanks for following along on the journey.
I think that color is Tiffany Blue on the door just beyond the fan. Maybe you should install a new toilet and have slumber parties with volunteers. Have you thought of it ? If you get a toilet, I have a new valve I can donate !!
The tours are going to be $15. We don't have a set schedule yet because it will be volunteer dependent in the beginning but we are going to work towards establishing regular days. We would like to do three or four days a week at least. We are starting slow to work the kinks out of the process.
I love the Rosenberg library but unfortunately they can only exhibit a tiny fraction of their treasures so we will keep the piece in our own exhibit area for everyone to see. This house is a Nicholas Clayton treasure all by itself, having some other Clayton bits will add to the experience.
That is such a beautiful house. You need to recharge, and rest. I saw the work done on the Bishop's Palace, they painted the iron fence and lovely oleanders were planted. On the kicked in door, maybe a decorative brass kick plate would make it acceptable. Thank you for my new title Superfan Joe !
You are a Superfan and I bet you knew exactly what that was when you saw it.
I also heard a voice interject what sounded like supportive words, when you were lifting the large window frame and using the pry bar. It sent a shiver up my back.
Heard it too, saying "careful" & "lean it"
I'm glad it sounded supportive! I'll take any help I can get.

Thank you for the update and glad to hear the tours of the restoration in progress will start soon.
The goal is to share the house so what better way than to start tours. It's just alway a little nerve wracking to do something new.

No, I was alone. I just lock myself in. I may have just messed up the sound on the recording.
Oh, I was about to make the same comment. It definitely spooked me !
@@leaguekempnerhouse like I said, completely innocent explanation. I’d definitely mark this video to do a super cut for Halloween. 🎃👻
I love the way you tackle chores you could need help with. I've done so much of that kind of work myself when I was much younger 😊.
I love to work but the heat really slows me down these days.
Is it me, or were there ghost noises on the recording once Janie started working on the pantry?
I just got on here to look thru comments to see if anyone else heard that! Sounds just like EVP’s!
Glad it wasn't just me! I had to slow it down and replay sections to see if I was imagining things 😂
That was so wierd. I actually scrubbed the audio through a program that is supposed to remove any stray sounds. I'm going to go check the original audio to see if it was there.
Hmmm...we may have to rethink the whole "this house isn't haunted" thing.
Maybe it is!
Im hearing an older man’s voice loud and clear on the video saying “oh” and “hey”- Janie did you have anyone else with you that day?
If you do tours, provide guests with safety glasses and hard hats. Make them feel safe and like they're a part of an active construction 🚧 zone!
It's very safe but that would be fun. I'm not sure the women would go for the hats.

I hope you labeled the window trim that you took apart. Although no doubt each item is imprinted on your brain by now. Keep up the good work!!
I wouldn't rely too much on my brain but since it's the only window where we've taken trim done it might be safe.
Your home is looking really good ..Will you have porta potty available for your guest when you open for tours ?
Yes we do...... but we are frantically trying to get a real bathroom functional!
