I agree with standing on your own two feet. I have been married for 25 years. I stepped back from work over 24 years ago to raise our three kids because we live far away from our families. It made sense for us for me to stay home and take care of the kids instead of paying someone else. I take care of our kids, home, his paperwork, and all the rentals we own. But, he said to me not too long ago, "You are not making any money, so what are you going to do?" It really hit me hard when he said that. I did not stay home and eat bonbons or sit on my ass and do nothing. I am a 24/7 mom and wife and rental owner and his personal secretary, therapist, and doctor. You know what I mean if you are a wife and a mom. I am a hands-on mom with all of their activities, and when they are sick, I am up every hour to check on them. I felt like everything I've done meant nothing and was not appreciated because I did not have proof of income like he did. So, I am in my 40's, trying to build my career. It is never too late, but it is more challenging as you age.

I’m sorry he said that to you. That had to hurt. Being a wife and mother def is more important than any career you could have had. It’s sad when men don’t appreciate all the work it takes to raise children. Yet love to show off the grown children like they did it lol. If you don’t tell him that hurt you you may get resentful. Take care.

As much as it hurts you to hear him say that, know that he doesn’t have a full 360 view on reality. Your income - you’ve invested your soul into your house so it can become a home and in your children so they can develop in the adults they are meant to be - That’s priceless! Build your career woman! Don’t give up. You’ve raised children and taken care of your home, you can tackle more than you think you can!

The number one thing entrepreneurs fail to realize about businesses is... A business is a reflection of a person. Unlike your typical 9-5 jobs, starting ones own business is like an artist painting on blank canvas. The entrepreneur has the power to create their vision/dream business. A business will emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically challenge a person no 9-5 job can offer. With challenge comes growth, and ALL entrepreneurs want better for themselves. Start a new chapter today... Thanks Melissa!

100% agree with making sure you have your own money. Of people get upset it’s because they know they don’t. You have to. Ladies, you just do. Even if you need to save money from groceries, or work from home on a side hustle. I adore you! 🖤

I went through a difficult 9 year separation, and I can relate to just knowing when it's over. It's not that I no longer accounted for the past 9 years, but I knew couldn't deal with another 9 years of the same struggle. So I chose myself. In the end, I thought I would be much more of an anxious wreck post-separation, but I think because I've been doing mental gymnastics all throughout the relationship that when it's over, you find that you have been at peace with the end more than you originally thought.

COMPLETELY AGREE!! I am big on being financially independent. Both sides come together and contribute to the household/relationship. If you are not careful, the one who controls the money, can control the relationship. If they love and respect you great, however, if that person does not..........it can be VERY DAMAGING and DETRIMENTAL to the one who is on the dependent side.

I’m halfway through your video and I completely agree with a woman being financially independent. I grew up with a single parent who struggled to raise 2 kids on a lower income and I told myself I can’t ever go through that when I grow up. From the get go I’ve always known I need to make my own way in this life and never feel stuck if a relationship doesn’t work out. I’ve gotten further in life I feel because of this mentality and I separated with a baby and a 6 year old, bought a house shortly thereafter and have been in the best place in life now for the last 8 years. Lucas lucky to have such a strong independent mom to look up to. Happy you guys are doing well.

This was a great Q&A. As far as the advice for young women and financial independence...I 100% agree. I teach my son and daughters this. It is more difficult to depend on another person. People can disagree, but that's what I've learned in my 42 years.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to have your own personal successes in life. Also thank you for allowing yourself to be vulnerable. You didn't owe this to us but you chose to share this part of your life & I'm certain someone is watching this, resonating with your story. That takes courage & I commend you for that. Keep making that progress for you & Luca.

TYFS! I am divorced too. Hardest thing that kept me from being able to file for divorce, was lack of financial stability. Lesson learned. Like you, I was married, but was technically a single mom, cause he was always gone. So real easy on my daughter. It has always been just my daughter and I. One thing I have taught her is to be financially independent. She just graduated high school and already on her independent self sufficient way. I have taught her to have her own things her own money, to be independent at all times. The worst feeling, is to feel stuck; whether on a relationship or job, etc. I also knew, when it was over, because I knew I was done! I've been watching you both here and insta for years, but never say much! Thnx to you, I have some amazing luxury vintage pieces, which I got at a great price, like several Fendi baguettes. #melsolderamademedoit XOXO

Yes I 100% agree, you NEED to have your own career/money. If not, you need to have an agreement with your spouse in case you separate as a stay at home mom. It's all about your own security/well being as a woman/ mother. Also consider if something happened to your spouse what would you do? Just have a good plan that's all I am saying. As a married woman, I have had to learn this lesson the hard way.

I applaud your honesty and willingness to be so open with us.❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I think for couples who have spent so many years together it must make you think about the time you’ve invested in the relationship. I would just question if you’ve been unhappy for a while do you want to get to a point later down the road when you’re still unhappy and questions this again? Life is short and if things aren’t going to get better you deserve to be happy NOW.

Thank you for sharing this update with us. I have been following you for almost a decade here on UA-cam and Instagram and I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished. (I remember OG Honda Melissa 🙂).
Having the strength to end something when it’s no longer making you happy is difficult. It is really commendable that you were able to do it.
I hope that you and Luca have happiness and health always. ❤️

My good friend who was a single mother with a very small child once said "He can date me, ghost me, break up with me. Whatever. I am an adult and I can deal with it. He cannot breakup with my son. So if he ever meets my son and my son bonds with him, he better know that is not a relationship that will end any time soon. If he can't understand this, then he doesn't meet my son. Full stop."
