- Avrò ascoltato "Yellow Ledbetter" migliaia di volte, tutte le volte senza avere la minima idea di cosa dicessero le parole. Ma per una volta non sono il solo: il testo di questa canzone è un autentico mistero!!
Ma andiamo per ordine, "Yellow Ledbetter" è un brano musicale dei Pearl Jam, uno dei più popolari e amati dai fan e viene suonato a quasi tutti i concerti della band, spesso come canzone di chiusura. Il testo della canzone fu scritto da Eddie Vedder, mentre la musica dal bassista Jeff Ament e dal chitarrista Mike McCready. Quest'ultimo in questa canzone ha uno stile simile a quello di Jimi Hendrix, che ricorda le canzoni "Little Wing" e "May This Be Love".
Esistono versioni diverse del testo. Nessuno, neanche chi mastica il dialetto di Seattle, riesce a capire esattamente cosa diavolo stia dicendo Eddie in questo pezzo. Tanto più che lui oltre a mangiarsi le parole, continua, nelle versioni dal vivo, a improvvisare testi sempre diversi.
L'interpretazione più comune del testo è appunto di una lettera che annuncia a qualcuno che suo fratello è morto in una guerra oltreoceano, divenendo quindi una canzone contro la guerra. Proprio Eddie Vedder ad una domanda riguardo a quale sia stata la fonte d'ispirazione di Yellow Ledbetter da una risposta stringata ma inequivocabile: "È una risposta troppo lunga. Mi dispiace. È stata scritta proprio al tempo della guerra del golfo. È una canzone antipatriottica, in realtà. È più o meno tutto quello che posso dire!".

I love absolutely everything about this. I love that Mike's guitar is out of tune. I love that Eddie's voice cracks in the first verse. This rendition carries all the magic of the original, and then heaps on a whole ton more. Mike even busts out the Stevie Ray licks on this one, which I'm taking as unofficial permission to do the same! :)

hleb4 I have been looking for this version of YLB for so long. I had burnt myself a cd, back in 2003 with MP3s I had downloaded from the internet. This live version is different 'cause it's only Eddie and Mike or maybe even Jeff, I don't know. It's very simple and Ed's singing is really raw. It ends like this: "Thanks a lot guys...I'm really proud and honored to be asked to be here tonight, we are the mighty mighty Bostons, from Boston Massachusetts!". I checked the bootlegs of Boston 2003 and this is not the one played in any of the 3 shows then. It must be earlier...Hope you have more clues on this! And thanks a lot!

Yo tenía un disco pirata donde estaba Yellow Ledbetter en vivo y era esta version, yo tenía 11 años y no entendía el final hasta que hace poco volví a encontrar ese cd y entendí el agradecimiento.
Me costó mucho encontrarla y por fin, aquí esta!
