Probably single handedly the reason I've now seen them 34 times. Eddies voice today is a bit beat up from all the passion and energy that he put into all the years of past live shows, but Mike's guitar skills still shine today as they did then. You're right Eddie's voice might sound a bit tired now, but us the fans can help him sing them. When he turns 80 and it's just him on the stage with his oxygen mask the fans will be there to sing his and pj's awesome songs.
I think Hendrix decended from the heavens for a short period and entered McCready's body to bring this music together. I don't see any other way this could have happened.
Yep eP.... that's exactly what happened. I remember Stone & Ament saying in a video interview once tht when Thy went 2 hear him play for the P.J. lead guitar job That he seem to "at times" had "left them & went off on his own ride all be himself... No one should be surprised, especially if you seen Mike McCready in Mad Season, insane solos!! This performance is priceless!! I'm a big Jimi Hendrix fan and this made me cry with goosebumps!! Excellent job Mike!! I ❤️ Pearl Jam!! Who ever filmed this, thank you!!
You can tell a lot about a musician by the way they handle dynamics. When the other guitar solo starts to come in behind him (around 6:30), he backs off and has this sweet supporting tone.
Their dynamic is unparalleled and goes extremely unnoticed. Stone is an amazing soloist, a bit more technical and doesn't delve in as deep emotionally as Mike, while McCready has written some amazing song rhythms but doesn't quite hit the way Stone's do. It reminds me of watching this ua-cam.com/video/kc8H6USGR90/v-deo.html like you've got just two absolute virtuosos on the same stage. It is beautiful.
Sometimes it seems UA-cam is psychic reading your mind, heart and soul.. never knew one of my favorite groups played one of my favorite songs, and it just dropped by at the time I could use a magnificent 9 minutes. And all the way back in 1995. Blessed
I am so happy to have found this! I was at this performance. Now... I'm not normally an audience member that tries to get a band's attention, I'm pretty reserved most the time. But lemme tell you when this song was over I jumped right up, put both arms in the air, and whoo-ed as loud as I could. The whole band looked over at me, but it was McCready I made sure to lock eye contact with. I lowered one hand down and put it over my heart, with the other still in the air, and mouthed "OMG!". Then I did the Wayne's World "we're not worthy" bow down to him. He looked so effin happy and proud! And Eddie just looked over at me like "Oh yeah? I see how it is." Good god, was this a good show though.
Back in 2000, I had an HD full of these rare PJ recordings. Bootlegs, I think they are called? Dial up internet, 56kb/s. I would leave the PC on the whole weekend, eMule on, downloading PJ mp3. What you got was random, when I got this one, I was amazed. Nostalgia hit now when I found this. I had 700+ PJ mp3, but I lost them. A true treasure trove. Glad to find some of these on UA-cam.
I was searching for more than 8 years who played this excellent song...just by accident now 12/ July/ 2023..i discovered it's by pearl jam!! Macready is a fabulous lead guitarist!!
As a kid, I searched for stuff to listen to when I couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night. I found this randomly and heard the whole song from Chicago live. It was such a random chance that I heard it, because I couldn’t get the station during the day, only at night. But it was branded on my brain. I’ll never forget it. Also, I found it with my alarm clock radio. It doesn’t work perfectly as of 2024, but it actually still works. It’s still my alarm clock to this very day.
Definitely underrated: & so superior... Probably the best guitarist in the last 35 years... Put the grunge movement aside... Very stellar, very clean, Specific way of playing that only he possesses 💥🎸
No idea how they just thank the drummer after this performance and move to the next song. I would’ve gave Mike a standing ovation. As well as thank him and honestly ask if he’s okay. Because I know moments I play my best are when I’m completely lost in thought and battling demons. Hats off to you Mike, my brother

Mike's right up there with Eddie Hazel, the guitarist for Funkadelic and the one who did Maggot Brain. and I'd say Hazel was just a step behind Hendrix, which means Mike may very well be a top 3 guitar player of all time. at least, this is my opinion, which I'm not stating as a fact because I do not want to start musical debates :)
