Heya Xav, good to see you taking a bit time to also include updates. For next time: FIrst styling of Larch is A Lot easier in winter, after needles drop. I have given up wiring larch in summer myself.
I still have another three of those to do so maybe I will give it a go this year when you suggest. I have just had a number of bad experiences before hecne my aversion to winter work on Larch. So I will give it a go this year :)
Good morning Xav, I’ve seen you in the comments somewhere recently so felt I could approach you during your break. I was very surprised to stumble across my name in your article re your 1K subs! Great to see the Lord and the plight of Ukraine there for all to read, excellent, than you🤝 Only two weeks to go ‘til the celebration of my love’s life, we had to change venues as so many people wanted to come! 🥰 ! My granddaughter’s two months old now n doing very well, mum too praise God. Hope all is good with you and yours, God bless you and all you do. 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️
Morning Gaye. thank you so much for the update and my prayers remain with you always. I am definitely about to come out of hibernation and am busy doing the edit on my latest jade repots and restyles. I am also doing some serious review and reduction of what I have. Time to concentrate on quality since I am not going to be a shop :) Twelve more days and then I will be a year for me - who would have thought??? All the best :)
Doesn’t time fly?! Makes you think!! I too have been rationalising by dint of planning to combine trees into forests, releasing some into ‘the wild’ n a few to charity shop,I guess you’ve already gone that route? I should think it will be a blessing to finish the retail side of Expressions if Grace, I wonder where the Lord will lead you next?! Exiting n scary times! You’re always in my prayers 🙏✝️
Spot on Philip. i think in this video I was trying to show that it is okay to be unsure and to wait until you are ready. I think our videos cansometimes make it look like it is always easy and we always do our trees in 'one go'. Go with the flow. Cheers, Xav
Phenomenal job Xavier! Don't focus on decisions made, those are in the past. Focus on your plans because they are the future. I personally like were you are going, but I am no bonsai expert. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers Matt, I deliberately voiced everything and my uncertainties so poeple can see that you can take your time with some trees. Not every tree is 'obvious' even though it may appear so to other people. It was fun doing it...over 2 weeks! Cheers, Xav
Thanks Tony. Tis tree always looked like it had so much potential but I never had the urge to do anything with it. This year I may look at bringing the branches down to match a more alpine setting. Cheers, Xav
I feel much better knowing that other have as much difficulty making choices as I often do. Also glad that two weeks later you had remembered to change your shirt.😄😋💚 Great video Xavier! It looked like a different tree in the update!
Thanks Marysol. Some trees seem easy and then when you start you can easily find yourself getting lost in the choices. I studied it for a good hour first and still struggled with it. Even now I'm not convicned I might the right choices. Another week of hard frost for us...but that would be shorts weather for you :)
I dont blame you for leaving the larch. I have a tree in the garden that I started and then left for the same reason. Really love the movement of that cork bark elm really elegant. Look forward to seeing future updates of the larch 👍
Sometimes we just got lost in the branches. Too many options and too many ways to get it wrong! I am repotting it later this week and removing the wire. It seems ok.
I needed to get the database videos out for a few interested people but this time of the year is always quiet for me. I don't tend to work trees until I am sure that the night time temps are staying above freezing regularly. Thanks for your support, cheers Xav
Nice looking larch Xavier. I like your choices. It’s set up nicely for the next growing season. I’ll be tackling mine soon enough. Still a bit early here in Connecticut. Thanks, keep growing
Hi Xavier, it's a bit of a cliche but did you consider making jins from the branches you removed or the apex? I think you have a good number of branches and this tree will grow into a really nice specimen with your help.
I have about 7 more of these still to do and several are definitely suited to Jin work on branches. This one I wanted to keep fairly basic and then see how it looks later this year. Cheers for your support, Xav
Nice work and update!!!
Thanks Nigel - hopefully I reassured people that it is okay to take your time and that nothing has to be done in one day. All the best, Xav

@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat Yes, I understand your concern with cutting back and only having dead buds to work with.
You cut my favorite branch Xav 😮
Was it the same branch that I realised I had made a mistake cutting? These 1st stylings can be brutal sometimes 😉
Yea, but it turn out good at the end 👍

Nice job on this tree mate. You're very hard on yourself. Give this another couple of years styling and I reckon it will look fantastic!
