I have played a lot of games back in the day I am not sure I was able to ever complete anything except for maybe one or two. The whole principle of games in the past was that you would fail since originally they came from arcade machines where players are required to fail as much as possible for the machines to earn money. One this whole business has died out by the late of the 1990s, the games have become completable. The funny thing is that the principle of failure was so strong before that that even games like PoP that were never released in arcades were also made this way.
The heads is all about timing, you have to learn the rhytm once you hit it, and then is just repeat it over and over until you kill it (sometimes you weaken it and goes away)...........the actual HARD part that you could screw the most was the jump onto the horse, once you screw one screen you have to restart the level all over again because there is no other way to jump.

This game was my childhood! I remember buying the demo on floppy disk for $5 which allowed you to play the first stage. I played it so much that i learned how to run past most of the guards too, and eventually I got a hold of the full game with that funky box and everything! So very thankful the cinematics are not skipped!! I loved this game sooo much!!!
My parents played this game but got stuck at the horse. After several years I played it and found out from me what to do. This was ages ago too. Still feeling nostalgic and proud for finishing it. 🤩
"Prince! Your bride is dying. Waste no more time!" Yes because the prince here has clearly been smelling roses and not running from homicidal skeletons and guards
@benji104 Thanks for the comment. The prince could not jump at 7:14 since he would fall into the lava pit that way; the sword-trick is feasible at 9:51(Unfortunately, this improvement won't affect the final score in HoF), but it doesn't work at 11:52. "Time 58" in the HoF means the time left. (75 minutes left at Cavern level 3)

Looking at all these comments, am really glad to say that me and my cousin (aged 11 and 9) did managed to discover the trick behind using the flame to destroy Jaffar and win the game - way back in 1994, out of pure accidental luck after gruelling hours of try and error of course. As to how did we even ended up in level 12, it was all thanks to my programming expert uncle who managed to change a few codes to start the game with 20 hit-points, and with a walkthrough guide up till level 11 (trust me, even with the walkthrough it was still tough as shit). 🤣🤣🤣

I never liked that discontinuity of stories since in game I, Jaffar was dead; Prince marries the Princess; they then... do their royalty thingy.... unless... it's another prince, princess and another Jaffar (all Jaffars are evil ) but is still an awesome game.
The second story is saying that Jaffar, through some evil magic, was able to return from the dead. It's not really a discontinuity, but bringing a villain back like that is a little lame. The second game does acknowledge that Jaffar was dead (or thought to be dead) already.
Then we still have that Serpent Queen to defeat after Jaffar’s dead lol, good thing Mechner didn’t release it else I’m gonna have sleepless nights again😂
