Congratulations Michael! Great race, great footage and commentary. Could really see the difference going up to Cat 2, as it was relentless for the first few laps…:but your nous is paying off well, as I could see you using your head and were saving some energy at some critical points in the race. Your result is something to be proud of, I’m sure you’ll go into winter training with your head held high. Well done!!
Really enjoying those race breakdowns. I am new to cycling and have been following some of the structured workouts on zwift. Can you recommend any other resources for beginners to learn more about how to exercise?
I started on zwift too. From there I went to TrainerRoad. Loved it. Perfect if you feel like you’ve progressed on from the zwift workouts. I was on TrainerRoad for a couple of years before then going to the next jump with a coach. This video may explain my journey a bit for you ua-cam.com/video/9LOPZk5U4Uw/v-deo.htmlsi=LuxPGvata6GQ60La
I’m really not at all. I really need to work on my positioning better so I can really save my energy going forwards. In fact I forgot to add it to the video but I hit my all time highest heart rate for 60mins 185bpm! 😅
@@michaelgraycycling I have no idea how old you are but that level for me is anaerobic…basically heart attack level….I’m not quite sure how team play works but I can only imagine that when you were hanging with the other two members they must have been really frustrated having to do all the work while you draft off them (if that’s the right phrase). Were these all Cat 2 cyclists or were there Cat 1’s mixed in as well as it’s a club fixture? When is your next race?
I’m 36. It was a E,1,2,3 race. Mohammed is currently a cat 1, he’s worked his way through his 200 points this year. Although reality he is elite / conti level and should be at the world championships next year. So there was some cat 1s in this race. There was also some Elite guys. The two Ride Revolution riders in the video are Elite. So there was a mixed bunch. You don’t really get any cat 3s as they have there own seperate race
@@michaelgraycycling Well I'm still impressed. Watching your last video and knowing that you placed 2nd and 3rd in a number of Cat 3 races means that you should be able to fit into the Cat 2 races but still...that's a lot of effort out there. Going back to that last race, had you of broken/caught up/tailed the guy who won would you have been able to have kept his pace up staying behind him throughout the whole race and left the Peloton behind? Or would you have needed another person...I guess what I'm asking is do you get extra benefits from multiple bikers in front of you or actually when you are hmm drafting (is that the right word) is it just the cyclist ahead that counts...? Last question ...because this is kind of ridiculous ...I'm a runner not a cylist. When you are at the front of the peloton and 'elbow' someone to take the lead, is it etiquette that you then have to go the back of the peleton or can you stay at the front. It seems to me the peloton is another word for frustration!
@@pauledwards3120 depends what part of the video you’re watching. Remember it is edited, so a lot of the time I could have been coming off a hard effort and my heart rate is recovering on its way back down. Or it’s end of race and I’m spent from multiple efforts. But I also have a high heart rate anyway. I can get it to 194-5 very easy and 177 is around my threshold effort.
Hope you enjoy the video everyone. Don’t forget to subscribe to stay up to date with new race videos coming up 🔥

You need to buy a new heart rate monitor. 182 bpm 220 watts ?
