Almost no one touches the wanna be meat at the local Safeway, It just sits on the shelf. Considering that I live in a zombie city, San Francisco; but people avoid it. Not a good outlook for fake meat. Beyond Meat BYND has a -5.26 EPS (earnings per share) and went from $200/share to $7 in four years. Personally I'm glad that these companies are failing and humanity is smarter than They think.
At least it probably has a really long shelf life

I was just in the grocery store yesterday laughing at the beyond meat on sale, it's always on sale, no one wants it.
Why do they even carry it in stores if nobody wants it and it just takes up space that could be occupied by real meat? I feel the same way about these plant-based pseudo milks.

It's probably less unhealthy to drink a glass of wine by comparison. The inventor of the drinking man's diet lived to his 90s and that was basically an extremely low-carb diet with booze in it.
It reminds me of a TV show I watched a few years back, when I used to watch TV. The presenter decided to see how cheaply he could make sausages, and enrolled food scientists to come up with a formula, based on minimising costs. He took a photo of his aging father, dressed to look like an archetypal, old fashioned farmer, and graphics that evoked wholesome, simpler times, calling them something along the lines of Farmer Ted's traditional pork sausages. Somehow he managed to get them into some food exhibition, and had Gordon Ramsey taste them, with positive comments. Marketing is a wonderful thing, isn't it. Of course Ramsey was pissed when he found out the real story.
Or the vegan 'cheese' that just won a cheese contest until they found it it was plant based and changed the rules to exclude it. (The vegans sites are loving that one!) Taste isn't everything though, people forget the purpose of food is to fuel our bodies, not pleasure our brains. In blind taste tests Pepsi always beats Coke because it's sweeter, but in unblinded taste tests, Coke always wins. As you say, marketing...

The poor piggies! Thankfully they can turn most things into respectably nutritious food. I would just feel horrible feeding this frankenfood to them though. My great uncle used to raise the pigs for the family, we raised the beef, and we all had chickens. His piggies had so much good natural forage, especially nice plump acorns and their own patch of peanuts. Their meat was so much tastier than pork at the store! I felt blessed and was healthy growing up! Now it’s commercial meat and a desk job. At least I’m more healthy than most of my coworkers…
