That intro was hilarious James. I will subscribe to Chris's channel. We have extremes here in Turkey and that's why we spend as much of our winters as we can down south on the Mediterranean where it's around 20-25c. Summer there can be up to 45c! Istanbul is usually only around 28 to 30c in summer. However in central and eastern Anatolia temperatures can hit a face numbing minus 30c in winter! I do tend to avoid leather also if it's very humid in particular, it can get stained and uncomfortable even rubber can be a bit too hot at times. Bracelets are generally a safer bet, however I will still wear leather during the cooler days and evenings, and of course rubber when swimming and diving. Excellent video.
Thanks for including me in the video James and for the very kind words! I am so grateful for the friendship that we have stumbled upon as a result of this great hobby of ours! God bless m8!
I wear most of my watches on leather straps, most of the time. When not on “standard” leather 2-piece straps, they are often on either leather or nylon NATO straps. They rarely see use on metal bracelets, but I live in the U.K,so getting hot and sweaty is rare. Actually, I hand sew almost all my straps. Leather is a fantastic (if slightly frustrating at times) material to work with, and some of the first items I made roughly 25 years ago still get daily swear from me. One tip I will share to help get your watch head seated centrally on the top of your wrist is that you need to check how the buckle and excess “tongue” part of your leather strap sit under your wrist. Ideally, choose a strap that has the buckle half long enough for the actual buckle to be most of the way around under your wrist, paired with a slightly shorter tongue half so that no excess tongue peeks up behind your wrist when you check your watch. This way, the double thickness of strap around the buckle and keepers sits centrally under your wrist and balances the watch head above. For your reference, I have a 6.5 inch wrist (17cm). I make my straps so that the buckle half is approx 80mm, not including the actual buckle, and the tongue half is approx 108mm. Keep up the good videos, I love watching them, and keep well :-)
Thanks James. That is really helpful. I’ve tried making a few before and know that I need a bit more practice. Hahahaha. But maybe it’s time to try again. Thanks for WATCHing
Was funny seeing Chris...Love the Habs touque Chris. I am a bracelet guy. I do have a couple horween leather straps that I use, but I prefer steel. Cheers!!
Could you share the link for that Barton strap? Also, croc leather straps are an interesting option because they patina really well, have a 3D effect to them and look premium. I imagine they should be easy to come by in Australia. Another fun one is stingray, it has a sparkly-pearly look when polished.
Hi James, Bracelet vs Straps has always been an interesting topic. If I may suggest, trying HIRSCH's James, Robie, Arne and 'James' straps. These are rubber coated canvass and leather straps with a grid underlay. These straps are waterproof, but the grid underlay makes it supple and allows ventilation on the skin. The drawback is limited colors and sizes. I find it great for daily wear (summer and winter) if you don't want the metal feel. 😊
That Hamilton Ostrich leather strap looks awesome! Definitely premium. I like the looks of the Bulova strap shown on the Citizen, too. I've mentioned before that I'm pretty picky when it comes to leather straps. But man, when you find the right one, it's a dream to wear!
Canadians wear short in -7. But when it does get really really cold (sub -30), we wear gloves haha. That glycine is a beauty, would love to see it a different leather strap, something with subtle texture maybe?
Hi James. I like your new funny intro sketches' videos. It's a cool intro. I like leather straps as well and especially when they have a quick release pins' system. Does some exotic leather straps exist in down under (crocodile without Dundee, kangourou, ...) ? Take care !
Here are some opinions from a man who recently discovered the tradition, comfort, and beauty of leather. I picture you wearing your flieger on a metal bracelet when you had your Road to Damascus (WOW!) moment. Growth is good. ...usually.
0:57 Moral: No matter how much you fall in love with a watch.... never, never ever tongue-kiss it (specially if you live in Canada and/or the brazalet has not been properly polished). Not to mention going a step further, man! Serious injuries may occur...😂
Plastic strap solves all your problems. It is warm in winter and does not accept sweat in summer. It is easy to clean and flexible, but sometimes may be ugly.
G'day glad I found your channel 🤙.great vid thanks for sharing, found it very interesting. Had same issue, couldn't find what I wanted, plus small wrist.. so I taught myself from scratch. Hundreds of failures later ( bloody hard!).. satisfying as hell and only limited by my imagination.. highly recommended skill for any watch person.
i ,ve had my fingers burnt on ali with supposidly leather straps , but i did find one reputable store hengric official store not as nice or as costly as barton but very good value at the price point
Leather straps are not my go to, I love steel, and then fkm rubber, and then leather, but to be fair I haven’t had a premium leather strap yet. What watch did the citizen leather come from again. If it’s Bulova we need to chat 😂
Thanks again the Chris from Mirrly on Time. Definitely check out his channel.
Thank you my friend!

Oh my god, that was hilarious... Had no idea about your cameo Chris. Also props to James for the colab.

It was great to have him be a part of the episode
And the Oscar goes to for best performance... Chris from @Mirrly On times for freezing 😆 🤣 😂
Hahahaha. He did a great job. Made me laugh a lot.
Agreed. Steel is my favourite but some leather straps really make a watch look good. I was thinking of getting a stingray strap with deployant.
That would be really interesting. I’ve not seen one in person.

I will definitely look in to the croc

Steveo straps are pretty good 🎉
Great to know thanks

Definitely. Just need to find them. 😁

I’ve heard it can get very cold over there. Especially with the wind chill
Leather always the best choice in subzero temperatures.
Hahaha. Yes. Good advice

100% with you on leather
Thanks for WATCHing
Great intro 😂 . I remember that Hamilton strap, nice 👍
Thank you
Leather rules!! After velcro straps of course
👍

Definitely had that moment.

😂😂😂 yes
When it is cold I prefer a leather watch strap with an underlying strap so that the metal does not touch my skin. Btw very good review James.
Thanks Tony. It was fun to do the funny intro.
Plastic strap solves all your problems. It is warm in winter and does not accept sweat in summer. It is easy to clean and flexible, but sometimes may be ugly.
It’s definitely a good option but I always feel that it make a watch feel very tooly. Which is not bad. But not always what I’m looking for.

Thanks Pete. I’ve made a few as well but I think more practice will be required
@@WATCHingJames 1 out of about 5 is my success rate, but that 1 😊😊😊
Imo, they look so much better than steel would
👍
Today i had 3 degrees Celsius. Want some of your weather please.
Still better than Chris weather 😊
It actually cooled down this week to 23
Perfect
i ,ve had my fingers burnt on ali with supposidly leather straps , but i did find one reputable store hengric official store not as nice or as costly as barton but very good value at the price point
I’ve had that same experience.
i live in Canada, -20C is common in winter...never occured to me to lick my watch bracelet , but now i seen the video,i will avoid it .
Pretty good advice I think. 😂😂😂

Oh Chris, what kind of Canadian are you, if you perceive -7⁰C to be that cold?
Hahahahaha
Lol Sabine, I don’t recall telling James what the temperature was, I think that was his edit…..I wouldn’t complain about -7,
That’s shorts weather!
😅😅
@@MirrlyonTime 🤣 James needs to visit Canada in the winter and learn just how tough us nice guys are.

Hahahahaha still figuring out that one
I really like lizard leather straps
They would look great on vintage
😂 only a Habs fan would still be dumb enough to still be getting his tongue stuck on steel in winter!

P.S. -7⁰C ain't that cold.
Hahahaha cold for us aussies 😂😂😂
Rob, up yours eh!!! 😂
@@MirrlyonTime 🤣 and subscribed!
@@RobKristjansson thanks m8 and good luck to the Jets they will have a tough first round this year
its leather, like any leather product, it needs to be worn to fit properly, just like leather boots, shoes, jackets, belts, etc etc
That is very true
I've never experienced them, but I've seen rubber-backed leather straps. Wonder if those would be more tolerable in the heat.
They probably would be. Maybe I should give one a go.
LOL The Mirrly bit was hilarious
It certainly made me laugh
