    Are there any serves you want a dedicated video on?

      I’m more of a beach volleyball player (never hardly play indoor) but I try and follow your advice in terms of a jump topspin serve so more of that especially in terms of certain spots

    • @fleecemane2638
      @fleecemane2638 8 місяців тому +4

      for beach volleyball you forgot the "sky". You simply try to put the ball as high as you can so the opponent has du look into the sun for example or into the rain or it is hard to predict because of some wind or something.
      Your feets point parralel to the net. You hold the ball in your left hand(for me) right above the point where you want to hit it with your (for me) right arm. Then you go slighty into your knees and when you go upwards, you sling your arm into the ball.
      Try to aim for a steep angle. It feels like worms armageddon.
      Iam pretty sure you know what i mean!

    Very insightful video! My main serve is the jump floater, but I feel like a lot of my strength goes wasted with it. I've been struggling with topspin serves since it seems my toss is very inaccurate, it never occured to me that i could try and use my hitting hand to toss more accurately! I'll definitely try that next pratise session!

    • @Charley-ju6yg
      @Charley-ju6yg 7 місяців тому +3

      Artie is his name. It’s unlikely anyone have heard of it if they don’t watch his videos. It’s an interesting take on how to apply spin since it can be very difficult to add spin to the side you’re hitting with, but it won’t be as effective on high level play. To truly get a monster spin on the serve, you need your fingers to almost wrap around the ball, which won’t happen with a backhanded hit, so the amount of spin you can get like this is limited. Although it is a very good practice tool to get a good motion into your wrists, since you have to turn your hand a lot, so would still recommend practicing it to get a good motion into your hitting rhythm when doing spin serves

    • @juanfocc5790
      @juanfocc5790 8 місяців тому +1

      its sort of like just hitting a normal set, setters dont put spin on the ball but you do.
      practise downballing against a wall, but just dont toss it with topspin, try to contact the ball with your whole hand, from the tip of your fingers to the base of your palm, all at one instantaneous moment of contact.
      also if you toss it a bit higher, it comes down faster so youre able to put on more topspin.

    • @handsome69
      @handsome69 5 місяців тому

      hey! I'm not coach artie but i have played for 3 years and still am, soo ill give my 2 cents. First thing for the jump float would be that if i was doing it i would want less of a jump so that you can push the back row back and force them to either use their hands or get them to have a bad pass from the upper portion of arms, with that you use a smaller jump to make sure when doing a float it stays in, also doing massive jumps all the time for serves can be tiring from personal experience lol. Second thing, i have no clue if it's worse but i don't think its as or more effective as doing a normal float or small jump float. last thing, if you feel you could use a harder serve for your level and you already have a good normal serve, going for a jump top spin could be a good option. Hope this helps! Again im just another player so if something doesn't sound right use your own intuition and im sure you'll do great.

    • @moggreg
      @moggreg 5 місяців тому

      After having practiced the serve for a couple of months Ive noticed that I have to jump a lot earlier if I want to do a high jump because as you said it will go out otherwise. It works pretty well that way, especially if I mix in jump floaters with less of a jump.
      As for it being tiring, I dont really mind since Im a middle and jump a lot anyway also Im switching with the libero soon after so its fine. I am practicing the jump top spin but for me the toss is so hard to do, so I wont be using it an a game anytime soon.

    • @carl8887
      @carl8887 8 місяців тому

      Don‘t learn top spin first! The hardest thing about any jump type serves is the toss. You have to figure out yourself how you wanna toss your ball (one hand or two hand). Whats also important is to master your normal float serve (being able to serve at any position with consistency).

    • @someguywithblackglasses814

      It wouldn't be a bad thing to explore the top spin serve. You need to learn it first but I always encourage my players to explore what they want.
      Learning more about any skill boosts a player skills and that applies to other skills aswell.
