    Most people put the reins over the horse's head before removing the halter so you still have some control over the horse, or at least remind him not to walk off.

      Does it look like this horse is about to walk off?😂

      Be more worried about it falling over than walking off

      I usually drape the halter over their neck.

      A controlling mindset is why your horse walks off so

      yeah, but this is like the best horse ive ever seen for bridling. hes very well trained and so chill, i usually put the halter on the horses neck if theyre untrained as well, if theyre what i like to call a "flight risk"

    With my reins I always unclip them because my mare is pretty head shy because when she got in a wreck with a blanket around her head

    What kind of bridle is that that you’re using? It almost looks like a junior cow horse, but not exactly 🧐

    Thanks for this video!! Also my dad went to the vet and asked him about my horse and he said it sounded like thrush! So he gave him some iodine and my dad said after the first day of spraying that on her feet they had already hardened up a lot!So she’s getting better!!!!!!!

    Hi I’m looking into getting an American quarter horse
    But I don’t know what to get for trail riding I don’t know if you can help with that but I was just wondering if you had and opinions

    • @SLWesternRider
      @SLWesternRider 11 місяців тому +1

      A trail riding saddle, if you're looking for something expensive. If not, a breast collar on your saddle and also a backstrap can help on the trail, and some split reins.

      I trained my horse to put his head down when brideling, but I also put my arm over his head and apply a little pressure to continue training.

    I wish my Rufus was like this, we give him the opportunity to be good, no, he is 16.1 hh and when he sticks his gears up it’s so difficult, my bestie walks on crutches and she has a 8 month old she has a little shit of a horse, Sully ( Sultan) he is 17.2 he throws her off so much he is such a fucker for it Lydia ( my bestie) call him a wank stain when she gets thrown off and she has a show tomorrow 😬. She has to bridle Rufus for me 😅

    Mistake right away is dont remove horses halter entirely before getting bridle on. Buckle halter around his neck so horsey doesnt take off.

      @SLWesternRider 11 місяців тому +1

      Although this is a good comment, it seems pretty unnecessary for this video. I do keep the halter around my horses neck when bridling him, but I have friends that dont. Just as long as you know the horse.

      I have had a horse pull back cause I left the halter around his neck and tried to put the bit it and he pulled back and it could have ended seriously bad.

    • @GretchenDupree
      @GretchenDupree 10 місяців тому

      @@Wqbbarrelsnroping your point is well taken. However, if i weigh out the consequences of having my horse get away from me and into trouble vs my horse pulling back with a buckled halter and staying next to me, i choose him to stay next to me. Cowboys have been roping horses around the neck for centuries. I dont think the halter around his neck is going to cause any damage.

  • @horsyhorsy7

    That’s not how you bridle you put the reins over the halter so they don’t run away then take the halter off and put the bit in ext

    Reins should have gone over his head before the halter came off. Not all horses will just stand there.

      Yes, I agree, this should just be a golden rule to follow and she definitely should’ve said it so all people that try it don’t just go and let their horse free. But in this scenario, it was fine. But again I do agree that she should’ve said and demonstrated you put the rein over
