The pro base model with 10 gigabit internet too is the way to go for her (we have AT&T 5 gb fiber internet)
About the 5 gigabit internet: almost all Internet providers give people a device with 4 to 5 gigabit connections, thinking that 5 people @ gigabit or max 2.5 gigabit will saturate the 5 gigabit Internet connection, not that one may use it fully. 10 gigabit is great if you have a switch and use it together with a fast NAS and Internet connection.

It's always interesting that none of the influencers really have the music industry on their radar, which works a lot on Apple. I only ever hear about graphics editing and video editing. I think it is simply underestimated how many small music producers, so-called bedroom musicians, there are who use Apple.

Brandon, great video! I have to admit I’m mostly curious about the RAM performance difference, ie 16 vs 24 in the two models. Any chance you’ll do a test on those two machines? Thanks!
Here’s why I’m getting it. I am a windows person through and through but love ios. Well after 25 years of computering I’d like another OS to be able to do ANYTHING between my set ups AND for just 600 bucks?! First Mac coming tomorrow!!!
True as long as you purchase 512 SSD. 256 SSD is unusable for any modern computer, the moment you install any software, maybe 1 game, email, you will be over the 256 SSD and won't be able to install any more software as most software still requires components to be installed on your internal disk. If you sync your photos and videos from your phone, forget it.
Thanks for the video. It was really helpful! But I still have a question: Is an M4 Pro necessary if you’re only working in Xcode? I don’t do any video editing. I’m debating between the M4 and the M4 Pro.
Same, although I suspect RAM would make a much bigger difference than CPU. The only time I had a CPU bottleneck (mind you on a windows pc) was when using pycharm on a code base that was in the millions of lines of code. The CPU was always maxed out but it had an i7-1165G7 and the M4 is much more powerful.

Trade in values were a bit more than I expected plus I leveraged my Apple employee discount to purchase both for the price of 1 entry-level MacBook Pro. Both Minis rock 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
“Final Cut Pro Video Export Test” is exactly what I wanted to see 🔥
I heard that the M4 Pro was louder than the M4 and that the fan turned on more because it was making more effort with the same casing and materials. In your video I understood the opposite, that the M4 gets hotter and the fan turns on more because it requires more effort.
Could you comment on this subject, the sound of the fan of one and the other and clarify which would be more annoying in that aspect?
Thank you very much in advance and for all the reviews you make.
Greetings
He misspoke. The pro version has more compute, draw more power which in turn will require more cooling. Its never been the other way around.
The M4 has a single fan the M4 Pro has two fans. The M4 will be louder because of that.
Thanks for sharing this very helpful and informative video .... initially I was indecisive on M4 vs M4 Pro, but after watching your video, I will go for the M4 Pro MacBook Pro with its 24GB ram and 512GB SSD, seeing that I would be using this new laptop for the next 3 to 5 years
Man am I glad I watched this. Wife is a creative director/designer. Has all of Adobe suite open daily.
Based on MKBHDs review of the base model, I thought that might cover the new computer we need to replace for her (company reimbursable).
Glad I watched this too.
May my Mac mini 512GB be here tomorrow. Went with the regular as I am not doing video editing etc. can’t wait
This a great review. I have a 8c/16t 5800H in a Beelink miniPC which came with 32GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB NVMe. The cost $300 USD a little over a year ago. My CB R23 score was10158/1284 and Speedometer 3.0 score was 21.4. It came with Windows 11 Pro but I use a Mint Linux VM as the daily driver. I just added this as a reference point to adorn the review.
Great video buddy and it’s been really helpful. In the end, I’ve gone for the M4 24 GB of RAM 512 GB to replace my M1 Ultra 32 GB RAM Mac Studio which is always been a bit overkill because I am just a semipro. Funny thing is the resale price of my studio means I should get some money back, which is crazy and still have a high-performing machine.
Which is better if the two? Using HDMI to attach a monitor or thunderbolt?
Thunderbolt generally gives better results, hdmi is still great though 👍🏽
The real question is is, when do you actually turn On/Off your Mac? I've had a Mini M2 Pro since a little after it came out and I've never used the power button to turn it off.
When going out of town. that's literally it.
@@normandyeuropayeah but usually you just go to the apple menu and choose shut down. Otherwise i never shut off my mac
is just auto sleeps
when i walk away for a few min then I wake it up with either the keyboard or
mouse.
The base sounds great, but I’m worried about the RAM only being 16. Worth upgrading to 32 to help it last maybe longer?
Thank you. Very useful video Brendan.
I am soon to purchase the m4 mini pro. I was intending to upgrade to 1tb storage but would you recommend keeping the storage at 512 gb and buying an external hard drive? If so, could you recommend one please 🙏
Great comparison! Good to see the difference between the M4, and M4 Pro. One question. What codec were you exporting the FCP ProRes to?? And what was the file size of the exported video??
Thank you sr. I was waiting for this comparison! With all that said. I will go for the base m4 model. I ordered both to compare them but now after watching your video is all clear!
I got the base m4. Enough for my python programming needs
Thanks for this video 🎉🎉
thanks for watching my man
I would definitely 3d print a dock for the Mini if I got one just to make the power button a smidge easier to touch.
very helpful video, thank you
Am I missing something or do you have the M4 / M4P reversed in the file transfer speed? Is the M4 faster than the M4P ?
Yes I’m getting the M4 today!!!!!
Was waiting for this one!
I’m just a spring chicken. All my computers always ran on a MS platform and the MP4 Pro will be my first Apple (phones and tablets excluded). I hope this works out.
macOS is somewhat limiting but it’s getting better. I couldn’t live without Windows, so I have both.
Is the pro necessary to just run two tabs on a browser?
Haha not at all
What storage did you have in m4 and m4 pro computers?
Which one do you recommend for working in Archicad?
Looking forward to receiving my M4 Pro Mini next week. It'll replace my 5 year old 27" Intel iMac.
Thank you for reviewing the basic models!
Bro awesome comparison 🔥🔥
For a Windows I hate Apple guy, I have to admit M4/Pro is a beast. I wouldn't have say this without this excellent review.
Why bother, just use the tools you like, and let others enjoy the tools they like.... Too much effort otherwise. All systems of any variety (Not just computer hardware and OS) have pros and cons.
No one cares if you hate Apple or love Windows.
Getting the higher tier M4 Pro to replace my 2013 iMac. I hope to keep it for just as long :D
Me too
Wow!!! 10 years. Does it still work?
@@beamilz Just barely. I'm using it right now. On its latest OS... Catalina xD
Wow I have the same and upgraded RAM to 32GB but I still want to get the M4.
@@beamilzI have an 8 year old intel mbp that I still use daily. A couple years back I cleaned out the fans, replaced the battery, and upgraded the drive to 2tb. Looking to upgrade to a mac mini cause the old mbp chokes in flstudio if I use more than 4 tracks now. It gets worse every os update.
I have a powerful pc for work. I got the base m4. I use Mac for everything else. I just got mine set up. Can’t wait to dig into it.
Thank You for this Comparison video. After all I‘ll buy the M4 pro. From Germany with my best wishes for You. Eberhard ✨🙏👍
I'm a bit worried about people getting scammed in the future if these are resold. No way for consumers to tell between M4 base and M4 Pro until they are turning it on.
Serial number check
Huge respect for showing R23 single core results ❤
grande comparazione, complimenti veramente
It's always interesting that none of the influencers really have the music industry on their radar, which works a lot on Apple. I only ever hear about graphics editing and video editing. I think it is simply underestimated how many small music producers, so-called bedroom musicians, there are who use Apple.
8:17 the double press for secure connection on the keyboard is the same when they refreshed the iMacs.
Hey can you create a video on the best external ssds for the m4 mac mini ?
Okay, this is the video that answered all my questions about the big difference between the chips.
My M1 Pro from Apple is still worth $705, I can get the base model for basically nothing out of pocket. Thanks Brandon for this one.
Happy base M2 Pro user. Would be interesting to see the base M2 Pro vs the base M4 Pro.
Brandon, great video! I have to admit I’m mostly curious about the RAM performance difference, ie 16 vs 24 in the two models. Any chance you’ll do a test on those two machines? Thanks!
I would love to see a comparison between the original base model m1 with 16GB ram and the new m4. Especially for video editing
Here’s why I’m getting it. I am a windows person through and through but love ios. Well after 25 years of computering I’d like another OS to be able to do ANYTHING between my set ups AND for just 600 bucks?! First Mac coming tomorrow!!!
Finally a base model M4 Mac Mini review
did you get the 10gb ethernet
Choose memory over disk space. You can just connect an external drive.
The Mac Mini is a compelling machine. I would love to see the same thing done for the imac.
The next day at Amazon: Get your Mac Mini M4 used from Warehouse in best condition, box opened!😂
For all the people whining about the power switch just place the mac mini on a small stand and boom it’s easily accessible without even being to lift it 🤷🏻♂️
Great comparison!! Thank you🙏I think the base model is such a killer deal. Which is not something I'm used to saying with Apple products.
The power button to sync the keyboard is probably a security feature to ensure you don't remotely connect a keyboard.
thanks very helpful video. looking forward to the next 😇
Great job! Can you test the base Mac Mini vs the new iMac M4 16GB 500GB? Thank you.
Hello, great video, need advice to choose normal or pro, my question is for gaming (diablo 4 and world of warcraft) is worth the upgrade? i know is not a game machine but a realy want to leave windows.
I got a question. Do You need a wired accesories for initial setup (mouse, keyboard) ??
Yes, first time, if it’s not Apple Magic Keyboard.
If only you had these when exporting your iOS 18 movie 😂
This is a timely video since I'm undecided on which model to buy. I'll be looking forward to your future testing and user experience. I keep my Macs for a long time and don't upgrade until Apple drops their support of my machine. I'm leaning toward the basic Pro model as this point.
Excelent video, you make my decision easy.!!!
Great comparison video. Thanks 🙏
Fantastic review thank you!
Very helpful!
Are these new Minis faster than my 2018 Intel based Mac mini?
Did you test model with same storage and Ram?
If only there’s a way for me to use this with my MacBook Air’s display… then yes I would certainly buy one and carry it around in my backpack. 😂🍎🍏
Now that would be a cool setup 🤣. I can't wait to bring this with me on the road and use my Vision Pro as the display 👀
@ Cool to see a response from you! FYI the MacBook Air I have is the quasi-combustion engine 2017 model… 🤣🔥 hopefully that will change soon. I recently tried to stress-test my neighbor’s M1 Mac mini (16GB) and it’s shockingly powerful.
@@BrandonButch M4 IPad Pro + iPad Pro Magic Keyboard + Mac Mini M4 = MacOS on the portable iPad Pro’s tandem oled display = An insane mini setup.
great test man thanks for the video :D
could you do another test with 512 ssd 16gig vs 24gig regular m4? i would like to see how the benchmark on these 2 models and also how the os handle the ram usage...
Brilliant test. Thanks!
It would be pretty cool if the power button was the Apple logo, and possibly lit up white. Regardless the location on the bottom doesn’t bother me. Seems like a solid unit
I am set on getting the M4 Pro Mac Mini with the higher processor and 1TB SSD, but I am torn between selecting 24 GB RAM or 64 GB RAM. I plan to use this machine primarily for Final Cut Pro for 4K video editing and Photoshop. Do you think I need to upgrade the RAM, or would 24 GB suffice for my needs and save me $600?
