      I have the M1 16 GB RAM 256 SSD...it's about 4 years old. While I don't really need to upgrade I was considering the M4 Pro at some point. Figured I'd spend the extra cash and future proof...shouldn't need an "upgrade" for 6-7 years. Realistically, I'd probably be fine with the base model, but I can afford the upgrade, so why not.
      P.S. the Apple keyboard and mouse are terrible...overpriced junk.

      @QuinnKallisti 11 днів тому

      @@Just_DonovanJ Just upgrade the base model to 32 GB Ram, you are not going to notice the extra 2 cores, of CPU and extra 6 cores of GPU in an audio workflow, Audio has nowhere near the compute requirements that a video editing workflow needs.
      With a thunderbolt 4 m.2 external SSD Chassis, you can buy top tier internal storage drives for cheap, and swap them into the chassis as necessary if you need to record multitracks on a project to project basis...
      Loading every sample-pack you own when you load your DAW is not exactly how an audio workflow works, they will be kept on SSD/HDD storage, and only taken into volatile memory(Ram) if they exist in your project.
      If you are producing electronic sample based music, Ram wont neccesarily be your biggest issue, but it might be a problem if you are recording a bands multitrack at 192khz sample rate.
      Also, if your computer is struggling at present, realistically you dont need to work at any more than 48khz (sampling rate frequency encompasses 0-24khz which goes beyond human hearing) and 24bit bitdepth (Encompasses total amplitude of the signal) this rate is capable of a noise floor of -146 dB up to 0 dBFS which is more than enough dynamic range.

You on the other hand, did the tests, ran the benchmarks, and proved that there actually is a reason to get a Pro for some tasks. The SSD is faster, OpenCL is way faster, Cinebench too - I mean it's overall looking like a 30-40% advantage.

    An M4 with 32GB memory and 1TB SSD is $1399, the same as an M4 Pro with 24GB and 1TB SSD. So, which do you get? This is what drives me crazy about Apple. If you're not careful you either go through "analysis paralysis", or blow your budget on options. But before we get too hung up on pricing let's remember that the first Mac sold for $2495 in 1984 or about $7500 in today's money. An M4 Pro with 64GB of memory, 8TB SSD and 10GB Ethernet is $4700. Even today (and with all Apple's manipulations) that's a lot of tech for the money.

The only way to fix the laptop is to have Apple fix it but it will cost more than the laptop is worth at that point. It's always interesting that none of the influencers really have the music industry on their radar, which works a lot on Apple. I only ever hear about graphics editing and video editing. I think it is simply underestimated how many small music producers, so-called bedroom musicians, there are who use Apple.

    • @WareZerd
      @WareZerd 6 днів тому

      True as long as you purchase 512 SSD. 256 SSD is unusable for any modern computer, the moment you install any software, maybe 1 game, email, you will be over the 256 SSD and won't be able to install any more software as most software still requires components to be installed on your internal disk. If you sync your photos and videos from your phone, forget it.

      Same, although I suspect RAM would make a much bigger difference than CPU. The only time I had a CPU bottleneck (mind you on a windows pc) was when using pycharm on a code base that was in the millions of lines of code. The CPU was always maxed out but it had an i7-1165G7 and the M4 is much more powerful.

    I am set on getting the M4 Pro Mac Mini with the higher processor and 1TB SSD, but I am torn between selecting 24 GB RAM or 64 GB RAM. I plan to use this machine primarily for Final Cut Pro for 4K video editing and Photoshop. Do you think I need to upgrade the RAM, or would 24 GB suffice for my needs and save me $600?
