I'm not normally good at noticing things like this, but the "Legolas walking on top of the snow" was very deliberately shown, that it seems out of place on this list.
I grew up with these movies, seen them countless times in the past 20+ years, but i've never noticed Legolas walking on snow until someone pointed it out for me a couple years ago. I guess I'm an idiot 😅
I'd seen the movies cou tless times but somehow didn't notice til I read the books and looked for it on my next viewing. It's so obvious I have no clue how I missed it
During the forming of the fellowship I've noticed Boromir's cloak is held together by a clasp closely reminiscent of the crown that later will be used to crown Aragorn. A sign of the rulers of Gondor.
I came here to say this. At roughly 55,000 years in his physical form and a life that predates Arda, you'd think he would have witnessed this gesture a few times.
Fun little detail you missed Gandalfs ring Narya (the ring of fire) within the story is hidden. So throughout the movies the viewer cannot see a ring on his finger. That is until the one ring is destroyed, all the elven rings lose their magic and so all scenes afterwards you can see Gandalfs ring of fire
A special lighting rig was used for close-ups of Cate Blanchett; as Galadriel had seen the light of the Two Trees, it was decided that her eyes should have an 'otherness' that was more than the usual Elven contact lenses.
U need to watch it before you judge... I watched first season and Amazon rejected my review because I apparently didn't watch it. Not sure how they knew that...
Boromir didn’t understand what Legolas was doing when Elrond gave the fellowship his blessing, great acting Sean Bean, he did a fantastic job with Boromir, best Sean Bean acting performance ever. 👍🇦🇺
In ROTK the army attacking minas tirith was going to feature a lot more easterlings like the ones you see at the black gate. The orcs were also going to be smaller than men,les armoured and the easterlings would be the more elite part of the army. In the end they dropped the idea and redesigned the orcs to be more of a "uniform" with a dragon scale like armour, red clothes and the easterlings completely cut. But some scenes were stil filmed and used in the movie. Al the scenes when they attack minas tirith at night with the catapults you can see easterlings in the background standing among the orcs and when the gate is breached you can also see a formation of easterlings behind the horde of orcs coming through the gate.
That is interesting, i read the books and after watching the movies and the Evil men's involvement was far greater than the orcs. Sad that they cut humans.
Gandalf's staff is kind of a story itself, the pipe staff was with him from the beginning of FotR until he was held captive by Saruman and that staff was confiscated. Then after he escaped he managed to get a new almost identical one which he slotted in a crystal on the tip when entering Moria, notice unlike the previous pipe staff this one lacks the spike nail, and he lost it during the fight with Balrog (in the book it's shredded when he used it to break the bridge apart). And later when he returned as Gandalf the White we see him with a new white staff that bears a resemblance to elvish motif, and it accompanied him up until he was confronted with the witch king during the defence of Minas Tirith and was shredded into pieces. And at some point later he somehow regained a same one as we can see when they bid their farewell in Grey Havens. Then we're back to the pipe staff, and turns out it once belonged to Radagast and was given to Gandalf after his very first one burned into ashes when he engaged the Necromancer in Dol Guldur.
Another detail I very much like is, in The Return of the King when they ride out to the Black Gates of Mordor and Sauron calls out to Aragorn and puts him in a spell, Gandalf makes a hand gesture that can barely be seen in the shot and then Aragorn turns back, smiles and says "For Frodo". I mean, it pretty clear that Gandalf counters Sauron's evil spell right there. So subtle but so perfect.
Personally, the clear skies over Mordor looking out from the coronation in Minas Tirith were very obvious to me.⛰️⛰️ Another interesting details are Éomer's sword falling out, and Gimli's body double.
WOW. Absolutely wow. As a child seeing these movies in theaters and falling it in love with the books decades later thinking I knew all the little details of the films you absolutely made me wrong. Very very well done. Happy to be a a subscriber keep up the hard work my friend
This was an awesome video! I learned something in each section, and I've probably watched the entire trilogy, extended versions, a dozen times! One thing I didn't get. When Aragorn set off the boat with Boromir's body above the Falls of Rauros, Boromir was lying peacefully inside the boat. The boat was then about to go over the falls. But when Faramir found the boat with his brother's body, Boromir was still lying exactly the same. Wouldn't going over the falls disturb his position, if not throw him out of the boat entirely?
Frodo should probably know too. He and Bilbo had many dealings with elves as they were passing through the Shire. He can speak passable Sindarin so Frodo is another member of the fellowship who should be familiar with the gesture
One of my absolute favourite details in these films are the Dol Amroth banners in the Elessar's coronation scene! It's such a small, barely noticeable little detail, but I appreciate the effort a great deal, as I really liked Imrahil & his knights and what they represented in the book.
Great video! The details with the eye of Sauron on the Nazgûl were really cool. The only one I noticed was probably the one we’re Legolas does not sink in the snow.
When i first noticed that Aragorn had taken Boromir's bracers (I was really young then), I initially thought: "Wait a minute, did he just steal them from him? What an asshole!" Now, I can see it more clearly as a gesture of honoring Boromir's memory, but you could also interpret it as Aragorn simply selfishly looting Boromir's corpse.
Gandalf being associated with the elves for centuries, should have know how to return the eleven blessing, so either it was reserved to elves or as a Maiar, he has no need to receive a blessing from an elf.
Something that I always notice in Fellowship of the Ring movie is that BOROMIR carries Frodo out of Moria after Gandalf falls, when normally Aragorn would never let that happen. It's a small detail that shows both Boromir's growing temptation to take the Ring and how scrambled the situation is.
3 things that I think a lot of people missed, 1, Gimili doesn't actually get his two-bladed axe until the fight at Balin's Tomb. It can be seen off to the side in one of the over head shots of Balins tomb. 2. When Isildur is looking at the One Ring you can actually see his reflection. 3 in that shot of The One Ring on Two Towers being tossed into the air it kind of looks like there is a vague face in the bacu
Mhm to "honor" Boromir, they definately weren't +1 Legendary vambraces that you could only get through grinding out a particularly rng late game quest.
I noticed none of these observations in the movies. However there is an interesting observation not in this list. When Arwen and Aragorn are discussing getting the wounded Frodo to Rivendell where he can perhaps be saved by Arwen's father they start to speak in high Elvish: Aragorn: Stay with the hobbits - I'll send horses for you. Arwen: I'm the faster rider - I'll take him. Aragorn: The road is too dangerous. Arwen: If I can get across the river, the power of my people will protect him. And then Arwen switches over to the Common Tongue, English, to say my favorite line in the three movies: I do not fear them. Question: Why does she switch over to the Common Tongue to say this line? This was a very good touch of the screen writers because I do not think it was in the original book. It would not work in print as well as it works on screen. Tolkien would have been please.
Sad to say, I didn't notice any of these details, except for Legolas walking on top of the snow. IIRC, it was mentioned in the books that he could do this because of being an elf.
Today I rewatched the first part of "The Fellowship of the Ring" again after a long time and I happened to notice another cool detail: in the scene where Frodo is lying in the forest, injured by the blade, and Aragorn and the other three hobbits are around him, you can see three petrified giants in the background. These are probably the three giants that Bilbo Baggins meets with the dwarves in "The Hobbit" and who were petrified in the morning light.
During the battle of Helm's Deep, when the old man accidentally looses the first arrow and kicks off the entire battle, Aragorn says "HOLD YOUR FIRE!" in Elvish because it's such a perfect shot he automatically thinks one of the Elves did it. A nice little detail I think.
I noticed Aragorn taking Boromir's Vambraces in the movies! It's really cool that they included the detail of Legolas walking on top of the snow, as this was something from the books
My favourite detail in regards to the Uruk armour is that they’re only heavily armoured on their front, Weta said this was because they had no need to cover their backs as they would never run from battle.
One of my dogs is named Strider , in winter he will some times walk on the deep snow when there is an icy crust I remind him he is not Legolas usually before he breaks through .
the last time I watched LOTR was with my older brother way back 2006 and I don't have any clue what was going on but I enjoyed it. and right now I rewatched it again now I understand why it's one of the best films that exist. Crazy how a film feels like a journey with the characters also. I was so warped in and everything around me just fades.
Damn, I thought Sauron was evil but didn’t know he was completely bats*** Insane pouring melted Gold onto his hand casting a spell to bind it into a ring with elvish writing
Legolas and Aragon return the gesture to Elrond yes, but did you notice Gandalf nod in return and Gimli turn away awkwardly (dwarf - elf relations at the time)
I did notice the bracelets, but it’s very telling that they’re meant to help bring him into battle with him. As a way to help the new king of men ascend to the heights he needed to.
04:31 I'm not sure I've seen the Pippin mask, but somewhere before they charge the Orcs, you can see Gimli's scale double. Only noticed the Legolas one...
You forgot one super obscure fact in the two towers when Aragorn kicks the helmet Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe. It's such a cool detail why does nobody talk about it?
Cause everyone knows that. Just like orlando broke a rib when gimlis double landed on him, sam getting a sizable glass shard underneath his foot, viggo also chipped a tooth when a metal prop hit him, viggo also deflected a metal sword prop when the Uruk hai threw it at him etc.
It doesn't matter if one knows it's in the book, it depends on whether one notices it while watching the movie. And it's hardly something that is on the top of one's mind to look out for. The scenes for that matter look very chaotic and blurry, with other things in the center.
About Legolas that can go on the ice without problem I knew it from the books. I think that also the Hobbits could do it. About the blassing of Elrond Legolas and Aragorn, it is wierd that Gandalf wouldn't know it...
8/10..that grey haven scene i dont think i ever noticed or would I ever since it is at the end and after 4 hours you may be tired(or after a marathon of 12) but the eyes on the nazgul horses i didnt know that all had them xD
Im pretty sure Legolas walking on snow is because he has better balance, Gandalf is clearly carving a path out for everyone else, so they dont get blown off the mountain side...
I noticed the different Uruk armour. I used to paint the Lotr warhammer 😂 spent hours studying the different armour. If you rewatch RotK you’ll notice some orcs wear Gondor armour. Looted from their dead enemies. I love the back story this gives minor or extra characters
Legolas made a big deal about being able to walk on snow in the book so when I saw the movie in the theater I noticed they removed him bragging/showing off about it but kept the walking on snow as a nod to that scene in the book.
Hi Thx for the video. In the new series, part two Look at the symbol drawn on the shield in Aragon city, The soldiers are holding a circular symbol, not a tree symbol as in the movie.
Has anyone noticed Eomer lose his sword in the Two Towers? Look closely when he mounts his horse after talking with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. It slips out of his scabbard- it is at the very lower left of the screen.
Gandalf would have known how to return the blessing too. the snow is clearly stated in the book. also in the book farimir confirms boromirs gear is as he knew except the gold belt from gladriel
Enjoyed the vid, but I’d prefer continuity errors, such as Sam’s waistcoat (/vest) we’re separate from deliberate details, as mistakes decrease my, and others, suspension of disbelief, where the other details enhance my enjoyment and sense of verisimilitude. YMMV.

Legolas lite foot is one of his names.
I'm not normally good at noticing things like this, but the "Legolas walking on top of the snow" was very deliberately shown, that it seems out of place on this list.
Also it's very explicitly said so in the books
Yeah same thing I thought, everybody noticed that. Great list otherwise tho

Question is HOW did you NOT notice Legolas walking on the snow?
I'm always shocked when I've run into people who haven't seen the movies or read the books. its like running into people who cant swim
Poor guy is blind. This is actually an inspirational story of how LoTR helped him overcome his handicap
I did notice it but i never thought untill i saw this video
I was looking for it. I remembered it from the book.
Elves are light footed. I don't think it's a flub,
kind of weird that Gandalf wouldn't return the gesture since he's such a close friend with elves, more than any other wizard
Seems like he was busy in his mind. 😅 "yea yea elrond sure ok let's get going"
I came here to say this. At roughly 55,000 years in his physical form and a life that predates Arda, you'd think he would have witnessed this gesture a few times.
Thought exactly the same.

Fun little detail you missed
Gandalfs ring Narya (the ring of fire) within the story is hidden.
So throughout the movies the viewer cannot see a ring on his finger.
That is until the one ring is destroyed, all the elven rings lose their magic and so all scenes afterwards you can see Gandalfs ring of fire
I always figured it was just because it was now "safe" to openly wear it.
nice - came here to say this!
Aren't those the rings created by Celebrimbor? Sauron couldn't control them because he didn't create them.
A special lighting rig was used for close-ups of Cate Blanchett; as Galadriel had seen the light of the Two Trees, it was decided that her eyes should have an 'otherness' that was more than the usual Elven contact lenses.
thats awesome, i find galadriel is the most magical part of the story
Hyeh hyeh hyeh MORE facts to annoy my friends with when I pause the movie...
Good good...
I Annoy my Sister
proof of how much passion, love, detail and effort were put in the movies. unlike some multimillion bad fanfic series I know.

Boromir didn’t understand what Legolas was doing when Elrond gave the fellowship his blessing, great acting Sean Bean, he did a fantastic job with Boromir, best Sean Bean acting performance ever. 👍🇦🇺
So basically Aragorn basically looted Boromir saying "LOL FREE BRACERS"
Lolz Loot is Loot
Or wow legendary bracers
😂😂
Of course loot them, they had +2 stamina on them.
Basically

You would not part an old man from his walking stick?!
@@adamcetinkent 😂 Well said!
I never noticed just how many stafes Gandalf actually used over quite a short amount of time. He must be quite frequent at Olivanders...
Glad someone summed this up as the two different staffs in the Fellowship seems to have escaped Middle-earth Updates attention ;)
Love these details. I've seen these movies more times than I can count, and I still notice new details each watch through. I knew none of these
Note that in Helmsdeep Legolas shoots one of his own arrows to kill the torch-uruk, but the impact is with one of the Galadrim-elf arrows
I thought Legolas walking on the snow was pretty hard to miss tbh 😅
Believe it or not, a surprising number of people are missing that. Including me the first time I saw it! ☺️
I didn't see it the first few times either.
Maybe it's on screen at the most probable time people go to piss?
I remember that scene, while other struggling with neck deep snow and screaming to communicate, Legolas just slides by. That was funny.
Legolas doesn't leave footprints in the snow!
The audiobooks performed by Andy Serkis are WONDERFULLY done! 10/10 would recommend!
That blessing thing in 1:29 ... strange that Gandalf did not know about that?
Frodo should probably know too. He and Bilbo had many dealings with elves as they were passing through the Shire. He can speak passable Sindarin so Frodo is another member of the fellowship who should be familiar with the gesture

The most obvious detail I missed through 15 watches is that behind Denethor there is a much larger throne meant for the actual king.
The books explain that...since Denethor is the Steward of Gondor (awaiting the return of the King), he could not sit on Gondor's throne!
I was fortunate enough to see The Lord of The Rings exhibition in Sydney and the detail on the costumes, etc., was just astonishing.

This was a very good touch of the screen writers because I do not think it was in the original book. It would not work in print as well as it works on screen. Tolkien would have been please.
Aragorn is also part of a half elf family so that's also why he returns the gesture

Even just these 10 details are more beautiful and impressive than the entire Rings of power series.
For 20 years old these films still hold up very well and still enjoyable
In the shot of the clear sky over Mordor, you can also see the White Tree in full Blossom, as the rightful heir is crowned
The Sauron is in the details but in the PJ films... the Eru is in the details. FANTASTIC
Really enjoyed this Elliot, some visuals there I never noticed!!

My favorite is boromirs bracers. I totally missed that and now that scene with him tightening makes sense
I just can't unsee how Legolas shoots two arrows in this Uruk Bomber, one in each of its shoulders, despite repositioning.

Legolas walking on top of the snow was one of the things I was actually looking for(from reading the books) and was delighted to see.
Best trilogy of al time!
I noticed the eye of sauron on the Nazgul horses and Legolas on top of the snow, but the others I never noticed before.
I noticed Legolas walking on the snow, while the others were almost buried in it, I remember this also from the books.

If you rewatch RotK you’ll notice some orcs wear Gondor armour. Looted from their dead enemies.
I love the back story this gives minor or extra characters
Gandalf does acknowledge Elrond’s blessing with a nod. Legolas probably found a hard patch of snow he also wasn’t carrying any of the hobbits.
Nothing too surprising here, so obviously I have a good eye for detail Still, I wasn't aware of a few of the things you pointed out...so good job!
Super video!!!!
How in the world did you never notice legolas walking on top of the snow first thing I noticed as a child 🤣
I always asked myself what does Sauron holds in his left hand 4:20. So it was a dagger.
Dude legolas walking over the snow has always been so obvious how did you never notice
The skies clearing during Aragorns corronotion was completely obvious and doesn't really require any explanation.
Do the shots of Arwen at Helms Deep count?
Enjoyed the vid, but I’d prefer continuity errors, such as Sam’s waistcoat (/vest) we’re separate from deliberate details, as mistakes decrease my, and others, suspension of disbelief, where the other details enhance my enjoyment and sense of verisimilitude. YMMV.
