Doug, I've been watching your unbiased opinion for years now and simply love your car reviews. Lately I've watched your reviews of the oncoming electric cars (Mach E and ID.4). One thing that is missing in your reviews of EV's is the charging capability of each vehicle. I think it is an important factor in the decision making of an EV. Keep up the good work 💪.
Doug's review is very unbiased. However, just like Doug said on one of his clip, he gives higher score to sports cars. So his reviews are very good but his scoring is a bit biased.

lagging info system is a KILLER, even if this had 1000 milage and 700hp
Infotainment systems were always 10 years behind in VWs. For example bluetooth was starting to be pretty common in cars and for vw to have it as standard you had to wait circa 5 to 10 years longer + the first headunits that got it were unreasonably expensive. Hope they will have a better hw and sw team dedicated to this and it changes for the better. Its unacceptable for this time we live in.
@@regular_goof US spec is not the same as the one in EU. In US VW, Audi use engines that are 10 years old in EU. I can confirm with my Audi. Why? Because in US competition is non-existent. Just use old stuff from EU and make money. Easy money.

I just picked up a Pro S ID4 the other day. Your assessment of the Infotainment system must be regarding a pre release model. Mine is VERY responsive and easy to use. Once you view some instruction video's regarding it's setup it's a "no brainer" and makes a lot more sense. The ride quality actually surpasses Tesla but I'm sure since it's not a 0-60 in 3 seconds car you won't care.
I returned a test car after 24h and a 100 miles just yesterday. Very impressed with the tech, particularly the smart headlights (which U don’t get in US) and the Augmented HUD. Same as most electric cars. It seems like they have to have dumb ideas baked in to make them different. Of course they miss the point that things like buttons have been developed over the last 100 years or so until they work well with the human form so changing it for the sake of newness is almost always making it worse.
It really makes a Tesla so appealing to buy when compared to other electric vehicles on the market. At least with Tesla, everything you think is a function, actually works as the function. Display is super intuitive, smooth, and everything you need is displayed immediately in front of you.

Over here in Germany, they are not delivering the ID.4 to the customers, yet, even thoug production is running continuously. The cars will be delivered at the end of March, when software revision 2.1 is released. This will allow OTA updates, which all currently available test cars don't have.

It's important to know that the infotainment is getting a complete overhaul with improved design and faster/responsive.
He said IF an update comes out. It's almost unbelievable that this car is actually a production model with such horrendous tech response.
@@prasad530 An update is coming out.
@@prasad530 there is no if. VW themselves have said multiple times there is a major update coming in March that will also add OTA updates
@@prasad530 It’s not production software, it’s pre-production and VW has said that the updated production software will be in cars before deliveries begin later this month.
@@davidc-l9174 Well if it's a promise from the clean diesel guys, no reason to doubt it right ? That screen was lagging like if it was swapping to a mechanical hard drive or something... not sure how you fix that in code
Murderer: Any last words.
Doug: Cars and bids.
Murderer: *melts away*
Murderer: I will kill everyone you love
Doug: I love you
Murderer: fuck
Murderer: I fear no man
Doug: Quirks and Features
Murderer: but that thing, it scares me
Doug you forgot one quark and that is the volkswagen sign in the front at night lights up and looks really sick.
The gear selector is not that odd in EVs. The style of selector has been on the BMW i3 since it launched years ago and other auto makers with EVs are doing something similar including the new Hyundai Ioniq5.
I3 has a column shifter, all Tesla most Benz SUVs almost all American SUVs and pickup trucks also have a column shifter this is fixed to the dashboard, so a little different.
If Doug was a surgeon he'd be like "Thisssss is a brain tumor...but before I perform surgery, make sure to check out cars and bids"
hahaha
xdd
lmao

This vehicle's controls was designed by the same guy who created the sensor for paper towels in the bathroom. It was working fine before !
It might have been working fine for you but it wasted a lot of paper, and I would much rather like to know that someone else hasn't accidentally touched the tissue that I'm using with their dirty hands
The "I'm cold" command didn't work because it is interpreted as "increase cabin temperature setting" and not "turn on ac on a warm setting". The error message was the same as later when Doug complained that you first have to turn the AC with a separate button.
I work in the VW Chattanooga Plant, Great to see this VW built in TN on your channel!!
I prefer it's sibling from Skoda the Enyaq.
Europe only tho...
Enyaq is very nice. But ID.4 has much more passanger space if you need it. Tested both.
@@antonthompson7838 thats funny that u have vw car as your profile picture, but u don’t know what’s skoda

It is a volkswagen with another branding. Very good cars, some a very economical choise over a VW car. SEAT is another volkswagen connected brand as is Audi and Porsche and more. Volkswagen is a very big company and lots of brands share the same platforms and engines as they are customisable and spreads the costs.
I like that he calls it a window defogger. Here in the Midwest it’s a window defroster 😂
Northeast too 😆
Here in Ireland, we call it a "window demister".
Defroster in Canada too, but it makes sense since there's no frost in California.
White steering wheel and VW badges. Innovative ... like a 60's microbus!
I bought a 2020 Chevy Bolt in part because of your review and I’ve been very happy with it. I prefer Electrify America, a VW subsidiary, to quick charge; also an excellent provider. There’s a wide variation in distance between low temps and high, about 25% in the Bolt. Tesla uses a heat pump system while Bolt uses energy consuming system that is a major hit on distance. What does the ID.4 use?
The screen and the screen and the screen and don’t forget The Screen! Bro, as a survivor from owning a Tesla model three, I can tell you that there are way more important things than the screen.
It’s an electric car. The screen is absolutely essential.
That white interior with grey lettering reminds me of like... late 90’s early 2000’s white kitchen appliances...
I wonder if the interior will yellow with time.
It is a kitchen appliance
most likely, but will definetely have permanent patches of grey where you put your hands and fingers in about 6 months and ain't nothing you can do about it will all detailing in the world
THE ID4 is essentially the PEOPLE'S CAR for the EV age.
It's the first VW I ever enjoyed.
Definitely more practical and serious than a VW Beetle.
Volkswgen has a crossover called Nivus, here in Brazil, with this fastback shape, and it sells very well.
The dead mans PARK is a genius idea that EVERY CAR MANUFACTURER should be required to implement (RIP Anton Yelchin).
But it seems like people just care about the "unresponsive" infotainment system which I believe would probably be sorted out with an update.
Ford has it on their rotating know transmission I had on my fusion energi
that white steering wheel is going to look like absolute shit in a couple years.
That's why it is an Option...the normal one is black. Like the rest of the interieur.
@TableRocked - has never owned one
Ever heard of leather cleaner?
@@notlNSIGHT Oh, that explains why Tesla as a brand ranked almost last in reliability ratings AND is having to recall 1/4 of its production from 2019-2020 due to defective hardware.
@@LearnAboutFlow Its a car made in the US, what do you expect?
It's funny that when he explained the unresponsive touchscreen, it's unresponsive indeed, but after a cut it becomes responsive
Kinda interesting
FYI, I test drove one today and it seems like the infotainment responsiveness has improved DRAMATICALLY.
