  • In today's fly tying video, I'm excited to share with you one of my favorite imitative Damselfly Nymph patterns. This pattern features a detached braided marabou tail that gives it an ultra lifelike appearance and tons of movement in the water. Combine that with Semperfli's Straggle String UV Legs and a little Flashback, and you have an irresistible offering to fool even the most wariest of trout.
This pattern is most effective when fished in shallow water when there are adult damselflies abundant on the shoreline vegetation. It can be fished on a floating line long leader setup or with a variety of sink tip, hover, or intermediate sink rate fly lines. During retrieval give this fly a mixture of short strips, twitches, and pauses and be sure to keep contact with your fly line as the shallow water takes are often quite aggressive!
Thank-you so much for watching and for all of the support. Give this pattern a tie and I look forward to seeing you on the water!

Good morning guys. Great little pattern you have there. I really like the braided marabou tail technique, that’s the first time I’ve seen it in 30+ years of tying. Hey, if someone struggles when tying this fly, does it become a damsel in distress? Thanks for showing us and have fun!
