The Winged Caddisfly - An Instructional Fly Tying Video
In today's video, we have a beautifully imitative Winged Caddisfly pattern that is sure to entice some explosive surface strikes from lurking trout below. It's currently smack dab in the middle of summer, and local stillwaters are prevalent with these winged trout treats.
This video will show you how to apply an ultra realistic and durable folded wing technique that will create the perfect bouyant profile on the water's surface. Use a full floating line with a long 9-12ft tapered leader. During retrieve, give the fly a slow, steady 6-10inch pull; just enough to create a "V" wake in the water. Pause...and repeat. In no time, you'll have hungry assassins from the depths below launching themselves at these helpless skeetering caddisflies.

    This fly just keeps giving. I've tied plenty to keep the fish coming. A few colour variants and dropped down a hook size, Right now the fish are happy to smash it right off the top with gusto. As you can imagine the tail eventually suffers and becomes detached from the main body. Not to be put off, noticed the now shortened fly had a very slow sink rate . Decided ok , lets put a couple of casts out on floating line just to see what happens. It still works. Let it sink 10 to 15 seconds and start a slow retrieve with a couple of sharp tugs. Bingo, your back in business. Absolutely epic. Super fun. I have tied a few for my friends and dished them out. So cheers my friend for such a stonking pattern. Every days different. That's fishing. Have fun.

    • @tyingismyvise
      @tyingismyvise 5 місяців тому

      These can be pretty deadly fishing on an intermediate or type 3 sink depending on desired depth. Strip, strip, strip as fast as you can with moving the fly as little as possible if that makes sense and then pause. It's the pause that typically generates a strike. Good luck out there Devan and thanks for taking the time to watch!

  • @alanmarshall7045
    @alanmarshall7045 5 місяців тому

    What can I say. Ding Dong. Tied a couple up and hit the water. Fished it on an intermediate line and 1st cast instant hit . 2nd cast boom , in again. The interest in this pattern was epic right up until I lost half the tail due to not using flexi UV. All I had was the normal hard UV. I now have the Flexi, I trimmed the tail down to tidy the pattern, but that was it. Interest stopped. So , it's back to the bench to rack up a batch and bring it on. Tight lines buddy. Regards Alan

  • @alanmarshall7045

    Very clever imitation, credit to you. I fish a water that has an abundance of Blue Damsels and Dragonflies. So the water must be crawling with these nymphs. I generally never miss getting a fish to the net using the blue flash damsel pattern, but I'm definitely going to tie up a batch of these as I find the fish switch to terrestrials after being stocked within a couple of months and the takes get less and less. So with these to entice them. It's game on. Cheers, Have Fun.
