For anyone wondering... he isn't drunk or high on something, he is talking in this floaty overplayed manner because it is kind of a midway between talking and singing. And singing takes away his stuttering.
I discovered his music in the late 2000's and I instantly knew his songs were gold. I heard scatman and thought "wtf" "omg this is amazing." Kinda says I'm an oddball, but anyways. I love that his music has a message to it. Scatman's world talks about race and that it doesn't matter, "tell me about the color of your soul." Those are powerful words. It also talks about who's the winners of this world if their are losers and ending global pollution. There's so many favorites, but one of my favorites of my favorites is the satirical lyrics of popstar. Honestly, you could take his songs and read his lyrics without the scat as thought provoking poem. Shortly after discovering him I wanted to see more content about him and was broken up to find out that he died to cancer many years before. I was emotionally affected since I had gained a hero and shortly learned after discovering him that he had already been taken before I got a chance to meet him. That doesn't mean I still don't enjoy his music. I enjoy learning about him and is why I'm watching the video since it's so rare to see long videos about him since he died before the internet exploded in 2008. Thank you so much for posting the video.
God I miss him sm, one of the sweetest men I know. I really wish he wasn't gone, I really do, I think about him almost everyday. His music was life changing for me. Im just happy his legacy even in recently found interviews like this, live on.. Rest well John, hope you're flying high in Scatland. 🧡💜
4:00 mark really speaks to me because this is something everyone has to deal with, and to see that someone as influencial as scatman also dealt with this just speaks volumes We miss you john
Hadnt seen or heard Scatman John for many years until I saw a very old episode of TOTP with him performing in a white suit. He had such charisma and it is sad he is no longer with us.
Wow such a great man and great talent..I've read so many stories about this guy and seen so many videos about him, from what I have seen he was an all round amazing and beautiful human being who loved life and loved people, he sadly died too young, this world needs more John scatmen!
i love him so much he is just such a real and dope soul with so much to teach the world so many of the things he says in this video resonate with me so deeply god scatman we all miss you 💔💔ski ba ba badobop 💔💔
An official written biography about him has been announced (due for a 2025/26 release) and a documentary separate from the biopic is in the works as well.
Really? Thats awesome. He honestly deserves it. One of the most inspirational life stories of all time. If you think about it, its almost biblical. I can totally see people talking about him centuries from now with people thinkjng that its totally made up. Or is that weird?@gyhio9
No man. It's not it. Feel happy. This proves you will try and feel sad even when all that's presented is happy. Wake up. Turn that frown upside down. You are good enough. Believe it. See it. Be it.

Am I the only one who sees a real life Joker here? He talks about nice things but the way he speaks in this interview makes me wanna watch a movie about Batman with him as Joker. Anyway, he was a really nice guy.
@@eventhorizon7374Certain clips of it were used for MTV promo spots and things like that but the full uncut interview never aired. There is a documentary and a written biography about John coming out soon so you'll see a lot of interesting stuff in those when they're released.
@@gyhio9oh wow nice, who's writing and airing it? It's been over 20 years so how come only now it's been written? Anyways I'm quite exited for that to release

I have this same method. I speak this way because my stuttering.
@@Daniel-zs7mv If the Scatman can do it so can you, you say?
@@Gary_Hun Exactly, bro. This man is my role model to speak.
It’s his natural energy! John was all good, sober and he’s just riding at this point
No matter what sounds he makes, his voice is divine!
He's a very important man with a lot to teach the world.

this man was Jesus in second coming...look at his intentions and thoughts
His biggest weakness became his biggest asset. I'm happy that he was loved by many worldwide before he died.
I produced John's Jazz album in the 1980's, He is awesome and I miss him dearly !
@@philipcacayorin Thank you for your work on the masterpiece that is that LP!
It’s great to finally find a full Scatman John interview. I wasn’t sure that he did full interviews because of the stuttering. What a soul! RIP!!
He’s such a nice guy. So humble and down to earth.
He’s probably the FIRST person who scats on MTV which is pretty cool.

OG stuttering gypsy
Who knows, maybe if he didn’t have a stutter and also broke into acting and music….coudlve gave it a wack. Certainly does have the voice for it
Nostalgic
25 years 😢
Was it only stuttering or was there other disease's?
John was a stutterer and was also heavily dependent on drugs and alcohol for many years before getting clean in the late 80s.
Do you also know why this was unaired? @@gyhio9 - and is there any sites where he is more documented?
