Wayne Dent. I'm British, but not from Liverpool & certainly not old enough haha!! BUT, because of it being a Port, lot's of American music (vinyl records) arrived there in the 1950's, Elvis, Blues, Soul etc which the Beatles generation grew up with. I really love what he had to say about songs being used in commercials. Any time I hear a song in a commercial I don't like it as much. This has even happened to me with Beatles songs. But I still love the songs because they're The Beatles.
My first immediate thought during this IW: Damn he has gorgeous eyes. What follows is a profound respect for Paul's intellect, musical genius, candor, charm, and gentle humor. To say "Abbey Road was a nice album" is perhaps the greatest of understatements. :-) We are all fortunate to have lived in the same time as this man.
I think what makes Paul so beloved is that he is so smart that he could really make a lot more money, and screw people over if he wanted to, but all that brilliance in a benevolent kind smart and loving guy ... pure family values, real family values. I admire the hell out of that guy.
Costas doesn't get enough credit for this show. He really excelled with one guest and no audience, which can be very difficult to pull off. I saw an interview and he said that he found making the guests as comfortable as possible was just as important, if not more, than being prepared with good questions. They'd share things that they wouldn't with other interviewers.
November 5-7, 1991 (the week was filmed in course of one day). It was one of only two times (the other being for Milton Berle) that a guest got 3 successive nights.
Well said. I really miss this show & watched every episode back in '91. I even watched it when Greg Kinnear took over for him. Bob was always my fav host though. I only wish they'd bring this show back.
A truly well done interview by Bob Costas with Paul and Paul is very forthcoming. Excellent. I've always liked Bob Costas as an interviewer. He allows time for answers from his guest without interrupting.

Why have the Beatles persisted? Loads of talent and great music, sure, but I think when Paul speaks of their artistry and, at the end of the interview, their integrity to their music and the need to connect with their fans, that really nails it. I mean, he doesn't need the money, yet he still performs to crowds of all ages. Good for him (and us)!!!
When Paul was honored with the Gershin award at the White House, Obama said something like Paul was part of just shy of 200 chart hits, and 32 years of accumulated time on the radio! WOW!!!!
Here it is. Most of us expected it doesn’t exist. But here it is. Truly a perfect, balanced person; self aware, personal growth, public persona and personal/private evolution and survival. So pleasant to listen to him and join in reflection.
Paul once said, “There’s always the guy in the bowler hat who hates what you’re doing. We always knew that there’s the establishment, then there’s the working people,” Paul added. “And we were the working people. Working people tended to get us, and understand what we were doing. And occasionally, you would get the kind of snob who would get angry. In a way, that was part of the fun.”
The right questions respectfully asked, let him finish always. Mr. McCartney sure has something to say, and the host knew that well. Thanks to both of them, really good. What he says about commercialising the songs makes 101 % sense.
Yes, excellent interview. Costas did his homework, asked great questions, was respectful and appreciative of McCartney. McCartney was relaxed and comfortable, said many wise and clever things.

Listening to Paul talk about Sgt. Pepper now during it's 50th anniversary makes me smile. That album revolutionized music and is still regarded as the greatest album of all time!
My favorite has always been Abbey Road but music, like wine, is about what stirs your soul, and what stirs me may not be what stirs you. I respect your opinion.
Paul is a thoughtful and talented man. Watching this interview in 2024 with Paul being 81 years old is a real treasure. Four young men in the early sixties became the most influential band the world has ever known. Still gaining new fans sixty years after breaking up. Harrison said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " It's a blessing that Paul and Ringo are still with us.
Of course they were aware of it. i think the thing WE are not aware of is what the Beatles decides to hide or keep for themselves - because they cannot be an open book with the public knowing everything about them. They were excellent and managing their image and presenting a message of positivity ... eschewing political sides. Who would have known that "stupid" John Lennon like Ronald Reagan so much, probably for tax cuts.
Somehow, Paul saw John as some kind of big brother figure and wanted/needed his respect and approval. I don't think John saw Paul in the same light. When Yoko came along John had little further use for Paul or the Beatles. Paul couldn't handle that rejection.
@@justgivemethetruth John was brighter than most ..but loving Reagan just showed us his middle name of WINSTON,after Winston Churchill wasn't an accident. A great interview in no small part because of the intelligence and articulation of Mr. Bob Kostis... and Paul was at his best, very relaxed, feeling very much in the flow. Bob is a fantastic resource in the world of broadcast TV
I really enjoyed this; Paul was far more lucid and revealing than ever before. Which has to be due to the quality of the interviewer's questions, and pacing of the whole 30 minutes.
I was at that concert "New World Tour" 1993 at New Jersey Meadowlands. Paul did most of his own songs and in doing so, I said to myself "He is The Beatles" But I have to say, there was multiple jumbotron screens behind him. There was one scene when part of a face appeared until all the screens appeared John Lennon's face. Paul got down on one knee with both hands together held up high Paul Said "I miss you, buddy, I love You" Not a dry eye in the stadium, people of all ages broke out into tears, including me.
@@UncompressedWAVmusic Some things that move us to tears we never forget. If I'm still around when or if Paul passes on I'm not sure I can handle it. This is an outstanding interview. The candour and flow is amazing. McCartney has enough distance from the heady years to be clear and have perspective, but is still young enough to recall that energy for what it was. And the interviewer lets him talk.
The nice thing about watching Bob Costas interview a musician, is that he (Bob) clearly knows music. It matters when the interviewer knows the subject area.
I saw a Beatles interview from the early sixties and the interviewer asked John if the Beatles ever considered adding harmonies to their music. Idiot had obviously never listened to a single Beatles song.
Yes great interview. Every Beatle fan knows, or at least liked to believe no matter what they all loved each other, but it's nice to hear it from them. Another interview somewhere (forget which Beatle said) " First and foremost we were mates". Only 4 people on earth experienced what they went through, and that has bonded them for ever.

They would have had to rip Faul's lip open deep completely in 1966 to make it so it can last and change over a lifetime (which it did). We know this didn't happen as we all would've noticed it at the time that his lip was ripped open fresh again like it was in 1965 the year before.*
***Paul bought the Scotland farm on June 7th, 1966***
***Paul's penchant for what John called Granny music stayed consistent before and after 1966 right through to the late 70s at times. Which was due to his father's music hall influences. With Paul surprising him with his dad's only song in the 70s (which his dad lied about).*
*Paul's dad was at his 1969 wedding with many many many pictures of them genuinely laughing together in the 70s.*
*Paul and Michael going off together for lunch way in the background not even knowing they were in the shot in Get Back.*
*Etc.*
*Do you really believe that the Beatles and all their Hollywood friends and British wives would be stupid enough to call him Billy to his face pretty much every time a camera is around (mostlydry British humor) ? The Beatles and their opportunistic record company have been exploiting this 60s teenage college campus fantasy almost from the get-go. Not even to mention he used to book himself into hotels as Billy Martin in the early days as well.*

*The whole foundation of the Tavistock conspricay was built upon fraud and deception.
I can prove it to you by providing you a look into you how every single paragraph of the original book that started the whole conspiracy was copied and pasted from other books. Every single line. And I can provide you the original books as to where they all came from. But here's the kicker. Nothing in this book is credited to the original person who said it. Of which none of it had anything to with Tavistock. The citations were all made up to fit a made up scenario of a Tavistock conspiracy. Completely made up. This is not an opinion that it is not real. It's a fact. And I can prove it to you.
***I can send that over to you if you like****

Good interview, Paul sounds relaxed with his answers.
Many comments talk about how great "the interviewer" is. It's Bob Costas and he always was and still is a great interviewer. And Paul is great as both a talent and as a human being.
Guy barely ages....it's weird.

Thanks for the upload! What a great interview, so raw, so genuine, so open. At 49 Paul looks great!! (as I type this, Paul is now 75 years old!!! wow!! lol). Through the interview, I loved Paul's reflection on John especially.
Truly iconic! Still watching this 2024!
This is definitely the best interview with one of the Beatles I have ever seen. Very forthcoming.
Paul was and always will be my fave.
I love how Paul subliminally plugs the song 'Jealous Guy' at 13:03.
Great interview.mi live just a few mile from all the Beatle homes, and go to them often, it is so magical when you stand there and see where they came from.
I have wondered what it was like in Liverpool. Great music came from there.
Wayne Dent.
I'm British, but not from Liverpool & certainly not old enough haha!! BUT, because of it being a Port, lot's of American music (vinyl records) arrived there in the 1950's, Elvis, Blues, Soul etc which the Beatles generation grew up with. Similarly with the Stones in the London scene! btw Liverpool has a history going back to the 12th Century so there's plenty of history for you to explore!!
That is so cool...I envy you.
Paul is an incredibly humble man. The truth : Paul was the most lyrically and musically gifted of that entire generation of rock stars.
Those BEATLES Stole it all from the BEST. PETE BEST That is.

Amazing interview. Paul is so bright and Bob Costas keeps up with him. Costas did his homework. There wasn't one flat moment. Wow. They bounce off one another like bread and butter. Really enjoyed it. Can't imagine there could ever be a better interview with Sir Paul. Nice job Costas!
I've never seen butter bouncing off bread (what kind of butter are you using?), but I get what you mean and I agree with you anyway.
Best interview I have seen of a musician, asked good poignant questions, stayed out of the way and let the musician speak, Mr. Costa is a class act.
The "you won't y'know! That's a bloody great line!" Was the most british sentence ever spoken

He's just a man. Lucky to live at the same time as him! Such garbage bs
We are indeed!
The best McCarney interview I've ever seen.
Absolutley. When was this ?
November 5-7, 1991 (the week was filmed in course of one day). It was one of only two times (the other being for Milton Berle) that a guest got 3 successive nights.
Well said. I really miss this show & watched every episode back in '91. I even watched it when Greg Kinnear took over for him. Bob was always my fav host though. I only wish they'd bring this show back.
I miss it too, I have a bunch of these shows saved on VHS. Costas was a great interviewer and could make an average subject very watchable
Paul is very insightful and seems very grounded.
A truly well done interview by Bob Costas with Paul and Paul is very forthcoming. Excellent. I've always liked Bob Costas as an interviewer. He allows time for answers from his guest without interrupting.
Yes, Costas is excellent, and so is Dick Cavett.
Paul's chatty in this one. No fluff. Great one
Billys always talkative

I love when Paul says that even if George didn't get a reconciling conversation with John before he died, it wouldn't matter because they all loved each other and they all knew they loved each other. I believe it is true. I admire them as the most decent of humans! I appreciate and enjoy all the great art and talent. Ah, when they was fab!

Paul is fantastic and will always be the best. Great interview! I love Paul,John,&George always the Beatles will always be the best band EVER.including John alone. OrWings or Paul alone.NOW.Still incredibly so incredibly talented until the very end..........
George's was fantastically talented and Ringo was still part of the band, background or not.
And, Ringo!

So you don't love Ringo?
Why have the Beatles persisted? Loads of talent and great music, sure, but I think when Paul speaks of their artistry and, at the end of the interview, their integrity to their music and the need to connect with their fans, that really nails it. I mean, he doesn't need the money, yet he still performs to crowds of all ages. Good for him (and us)!!!
Check radio airplay and you will find that this man owned the 70's airwaves! Thank you so much for the life and love in your music Mr. McCartney!❤
When Paul was honored with the Gershin award at the White House, Obama said something like Paul was part of just shy of 200 chart hits, and 32 years of accumulated time on the radio! WOW!!!!
"Like an actor in a dramatic part"- got that right. He admitted it.

Here it is. Most of us expected it doesn’t exist. But here it is. Truly a perfect, balanced person; self aware, personal growth, public persona and personal/private evolution and survival. So pleasant to listen to him and join in reflection.
A really great McCartney interview. Hard to believe there are some thumbs down ratings on this.
Great interview ad as usual Paul comes off as a quite lovely person.

I use to think the Beatles were over-rated but not anymore as I have gotten older.

My favorite has always been Abbey Road but music, like wine, is about what stirs your soul, and what stirs me may not be what stirs you. I respect your opinion.
It certainly threw Brian Wilson for a loop!😮
Paul is a thoughtful and talented man. Watching this interview in 2024 with Paul being 81 years old is a real treasure. Four young men in the early sixties became the most influential band the world has ever known. Still gaining new fans sixty years after breaking up. Harrison said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " It's a blessing that Paul and Ringo are still with us.
This is by far the best interview with Paul. Got through a bunch of great questions. Wished it had been a bit longer.
It hurts to know that he’ll forever be affected by John’s death in one way or another. They were like soul mates whether they were aware of it or not
100% agree
Have just watched the get back doc - they were definitely aware of it.
He did silly political things earlier in his life ,but liking Reagan near the end of his life, just showed me that he was "GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME"

This interview is fking awesome.
Wish John revived for a last album with Paul.
Generous man and Legendary most honest artist...sharing the love of 4 beyond amazing musicians.
Sir Paul is fabulous what a talent!
I got tears just reading that.
I think Paul is very comfortable with Bob Costas. There is mutual respect and admiration between the two of them.
Paul's face reminds me so much of the Beatles cartoons... they drew him perfectly
They really did!🙃
Yes great interview. Every Beatle fan knows, or at least liked to believe no matter what they all loved each other, but it's nice to hear it from them. Another interview somewhere (forget which Beatle said) " First and foremost we were mates". Only 4 people on earth experienced what they went through, and that has bonded them for ever.
All you need is love! I love the Beatles' message :) So true, if you receive healthy love in childhood, you are very likely to grow up to a secure adult.
