I like how they call 360x350 a "standard". :) As I recall, they used completely custom mode that they got by programming VGA registers manually. Most monitors I've seen these games run on were quite confused with that mode, and some couldn't even be properly adjusted with the knobs to display it centered and with a round ball.
EA owns them now and don't consider pinball worthwhile. It's the same reason why we haven't seen a proper Space Cadet or Full Tilt Pinball re-release or remaster.
I saw the link to this on GOG forums.. How do you enable this mode? when I follow this guide I end up with just the left half of the screen only. edit.. It;s ok I did get it working by going back to the default config and editing that one. thanks
Uninstall the game including settings, and reinstall. This is to make sure you have a proper dosboxILLUSIONS.conf file. Also, it's not the dosboxILLUSIONS_settings.conf file, not dosboxILLUSIONS_single.conf, just dosboxILLUSIONS.conf. Make sure you go into the right file. I just reinstalled the game fresh on Win10, and the steps in this video still worked. But this game is indeed wonky on modern PCs so it may not work for everyone. Also want to add that to preserve aspect ratio (so the image doesn't look horizontally stretched on a widescreen monitor), Nvidia users need to set aspect ratio specifically for 800x600: i.imgur.com/ExYBEtQ.jpg
If you have Windows 10, click Start -> Settings -> System -> Display, and change resolution to 800x600 (the resolution used by Pinball Illusion). If the image is also off center, then it is a Windows problem, or a problem related to your monitor. That's a whole other subject. Let me know how it goes.
@@PCGamingGoodies actually i tried this process before posting and it didn't work. I have messed up with the settings of the games a fair bit. Nothing works. Unless i decide to play the game in the basic "following the ball" style view.
@@itcamefromouterspace1889 So your screen was not off center when you changed res to 800x600 in Windows display? Below are my DOSBox config settings and they work for me. You may try these if you think you have messed them up. Keep the other sections in the config file same as before: [sdl] fullscreen=false fulldouble=false fullresolution=800x600 windowresolution=original output=ddraw autolock=true sensitivity=100 waitonerror=true priority=higher, normal mapperfile=mapper.txt usescancodes=true [dosbox] language= machine=svga_et4000 captures=capture memsize=30 [render] frameskip=0 aspect=true scaler=normal2x [cpu] core=auto cycles=auto cycleup=1000 cycledown=1000

Why won't DICE reboot this franchise? They have like 20 tables they could collaborate with Farsight or Zen Studios
