This showmanship really bothers me. Before you start trying to dog me, listen up. I've watched the Marine Corps "evolve" over the past 42 years. Fox, MOH--was lectured by them. Read and learned from battle- hardened, tested Marines. I've done the studies. And I've watched several lately published videos about today's USMC. I'm here to tell you that it's results that count. Not strutting around like a big cock!
Interesting that they are wearing the service cover instead of the garrison cover/piss cutter. When I graduated in 1976, the service cover was being phased out. Although it was issued to us I never wore it once and it was not authorized to wear for regular duty. Then around '78 or '79 we switched from the OD green utilities to the camouflage.
I don't think that the march looks strange. I believe that the main point of every military march is to remove the individuality and present the whole unit as one. "We all look the same, therefore we are one". The same thing with uniforms.
Those are "Platoon Guides" who bear the Guidon. The Guides are wearing dress blue trousers, which is part (summer version) of the dress blue uniform. Had it been a graduation in the winter (cold) months, these guides would be wearing the entire dress blue uniforms, which you are probably more familiar with. We Marines have our own unique way of marching. We are known for that, and for our pomp and decor. It's one of the many ways that we differ from the other branches.

I remember the daily practicing of the graduation ceremony. Everywhere we went in boot camp, to chow and classes, we marched. Tens of hours practicing on the "grinder", to get it right. And then when that day came, graduation day, we screwed it up, some of us turning left when we should have turned right. How embarrassing. Oh well.
This former Marine was graduated from platoon 3017, 1967; I was the smallest egg-head on Parris Island and, while asked, replied with: "Sir, the private respectively declines to be the drill instructor's house mouse sir." He moved on.
San Diego, 1142, 1969...I was a House Mouse for about 10 minutes. I ran a swab (mop) over S/SGT Sanborns shoes...Yikes he went nuts, and worked me over pretty good. I hated that prick.
Brings back memories. 28 March 1977, parade deck MCRD Parris Island 85 degrees, 90% humidity winter, WOOL, service Alphas. Was sweating so bad I couldn't wait to get into my jeans and t-shirt that had been waiting 3 long months for me.
Hey I was in the old Army. Back then our Drills were straight out of Vietnam. Now days I just don't know. It's hard to understand. I will say this Just look at the old guard stationed at Arlington Virginia.
If we would have marched like that recruit carrying the guidon for platoon 1026 we would have been murdered. Maybe things have changed since I graduated at San Diego MCRD in Febuary 1985?
San Diego April 18th 1976. We did NOT arch our backs like that, exaggerate our arm movements like that, and we certainly didn't stomp our legs like a kid in a mud puddle. Almost seemed parody like. We were tight but we weren't contortionists.

I still call it that [internal subversion]. For those like Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff, etc. I call it treason.

Please help me understand, are they leaning backwards, if so are they supposed to, and why?
4.17 am 16 ..11 ..2019 ..very bored but happy watching this
What song is that it’s a good one.
It feels like recruits who perform perfect on their PT are all relatively short.
being shorter makes physical things easier
Graduation day for me from P.I November 1988 we had four plt in my series
That's Parris Island South Carolina I recognize the announcer's voice
Thats San Diegio's guidon retirement ceremony though.
Damn this was just one year after I graduated. Didn’t realize how long it’s been 😂
I remember the daily practicing of the graduation ceremony. Everywhere we went in boot camp, to chow and classes, we marched. Tens of hours practicing on the "grinder", to get it right. And then when that day came, graduation day, we screwed it up, some of us turning left when we should have turned right. How embarrassing. Oh well.
Je trouve cette parade magnifique.
Job well done of videotaping This Magnificent event of our the United States States marine Corps members...Thankyou you be blessed amen
How to sync pr but 4a4d with iPhone 8

I GRADUATED IN NOV 1967, its changed a lot since then,Not Chesty Pullers Corp any more.LOL!
can anyone tell me the name of the song the band plays during the retirement of the flags
thegamerjoe21
That is the Navy Hymn always played prior to Marines Hymn. Marines stand for both Navy and Marine Hymn.
p j well now that I know more than I did when I commented the first comment, it's actually called National Emblem march, that's not the Navy Hymn
Thanks for the info
I recognize it and we played it in h.s. and college(MSU in Lake Charles, LA) and it indeed the National Emblem march.
title of the parade song while they were resturning the guidon to their DI's? men that was our graduation song back on my highschool graduation day.
I hated that prick.
we still have house mice 😹
My husband was there in August of 1967. Bill Hill is his name.
You guys get mad props too!
I still remember this day when my brother graduated from Parris island 😄
If we would have marched like that recruit carrying the guidon for platoon 1026 we would have been murdered. Maybe things have changed since I graduated at San Diego MCRD in Febuary 1985?
Or in '69 from Parris Island?
MCRD was your issue brother as real Marines "Were born on Parris Island" !
Marine Raider Thu
yep. i don''t know this. just a mud slinger myself
San Diego April 18th 1976. We did NOT arch our backs like that, exaggerate our arm movements like that, and we certainly didn't stomp our legs like a kid in a mud puddle. Almost seemed parody like. We were tight but we weren't contortionists.
What song is played whilst the guidons are being retired?
48 years ago for me....King Rat, E.L.A OOraw
SGT MartinezUSMC
Can someone tell me why the Officers aren't wearing a gold band on their covers?
