My ranking is very similar!! Alien: 10/10 (very very good, especially for the time. Alien Resurrection: 5.5 (they tried to introduce some new aspects, but the final product is unbalanced) Prometheus: 8 (not for everyone and not a perfect movie, but with interesting concepts) Alien Covenant: objectively I have to give it a 6 (but honestly I would give it a 4, because this movie could have been so much more!!! It was a big disappointment, since I had some expectations after Prometheus) Alien Romulus: 8.5 (one of the best in the franchise, for sure)
I have not seen all of the films, but one addendum: Alien 3: 6.5/10 Alien 3 Assembly Cut: 8/10 I do think that the alternate cut improves the movie tremendously. Also-I don’t think I hate Resurrection as much as some other people do, but it has some of the most odd tone shifts I’ve ever seen in a film. One good example is the “lab scene” discovery, with the alternate Ripley clones. One of the strongest scenes in the movie, for sure. But then it was followed up immediately by a ridiculously goofy joke/comment by Ron Perlman’s character. It’s just jarring, and serves to cheapen & dilute the impact of the previous scene. Anyway…
I'm always happy to see Alien 3 get more love. I've been defending that film since the 90s when it came out and still have people complain to me that it's not as good as the first two.
I've been saying it my whole life. Alien 3 rules. The setting, the tone, the return to roots. The new alien. No guns and still figuring out how to kill it. Always liked it.
I think the biggest issue people have was killing pretty much every other character from Aliens in order to get to it. It takes away from Aliens, in order to deliver the plot of this one.
alien 3 didn't use any cgi, apart from the scene where the xenomorph head explodes. the aliens in this movie are actually most of the time puppets filmed before a green screen and later added to the scenes.
Was going to say the same thing. The reason it looks bad is because they didn't properly match lightling between the puppet and live plates. Also you're getting that classic black line around the puppet that comes from compositing different live plates. But you know thing looks bad, It MuSt bE CgI.
Technically they used blue screen with optical compositing and they rotoscoped out the rods used to move the xenomorph puppet. Ironically, they could probably make the visual effects look a lot better if they replaced the puppet with CGI.
Covennat was a good sequel of Prometeus, and I love both, btw, however I believe that it was a pity to not see all the things that happened between movies; the massacre of the engineers and the tortures from David. The off screen recreates a kind of terror, which is cool, but splicit terror would be better
so refreshing to hear that someone else likes prometheus. i feel people went in expecting and wanting something different than what Scott intended. seen romulus opening night, Fede needs to carry on the Alien franchise with Scott’s blessing and obvious involvement because that movie was great, i typically don’t react/speak to films when i watch but romulus made me audibly say “nope” multiple times. him making the cast young and untrained made their decisions and mindsets a ton more believable. i give it a 9/10 or an A+ on a bad day and an S on a good day. your list is very similar to mine too
@@UnifiedEntity i get that but these were teenagers-young adults. as much as we’d like to think we’d act a certain way in situations you can’t speak for the next person. while frustrating, a lot of their actions were justified.
I don't have that big problem with Prometheus itself, my main problem is that Ridley didn't finish it and then he made Covenant and again didn't finish it, so both these movies are like completely random, no answers, everything out of context and ofcourse what I don't like about these 2 movies are very dumb crews. It would be several times better if crew acted at least slightly logically, not like "hey, look, alien egg that is moving, let's put my head into it" 😀
@@assie_ie5532 That's not comparable, they didn't act THAT stupid and also, they were just space truckers, not professional scientists like in Prometheus.
Love your review of 3. You arent blinded by the production / writing/ delays controversies. Watching it blind like you did was going to get a better review. 👊🏽
SO glad you loved Prometheus!! I love it too. So sad we never got a worthy sequel. Ridley Scott should have continued his vision exactly how he wanted. I wanted a movie with the Engineers so badly.
Great video. For me it would be: S tier - Alien, Aliens A tier - none B tier - Alien3, Romulus C tier - Prometheus D tier - none F tier - Covenant, Resurrection
9:55 it took so long to hatch because A) it was the next Alien Queen growing inside of her, so it needed longer, and B) she was facehugged while in Cryosleep, so it probably took longer for the embryo to grow in the first place because of that
Covenant was my favorite movie honestly, the gore in that movie was something else. The Neomorph had a fantastic “uncanny valley” feel to them, especially the temple scene where it stands there staring.
Covenant keeps getting better over the years. Despite kind of trying to please everyone, it actually feels like a hyper focused story and it's a great film because of it.
I absolutely love the love you spread for the majority of the films in this franchise. It's one of my favorite film series of all time, such a wide variety of tones and filmmaking styles utilizing the same basic premise. A great example of what more franchises should strive for. I'll even take you one further and say I love Resurrection as well. The script and direction may not match very well, but I really think diving into the capitalist evils outliving us by centuries and Ripley becoming more closely tied to the aliens than ever is genuinely a fascinating way to keep her story going. It may not really be an ending, but it just adds to my appreciation of the franchise as a whole.
5:29: Fun fact: With me being an airport ramp agent (the guy that loads bags, ect.) the APC in Aliens is nothing more than an aircraft tug with a plywood body kit added.
You're 100 percent correct about the third. It gets a lot of hate because they killed off two fan favorites in the beginning, but that's life. The alien holds up. It's just not as good as the first two, but it's still good. I'm happy you watched it with an open mind.
I used to think the same thing, I never cared that Hicks and Newt were killed - making a movie with them would be lame. But Alien 3 is too dramatic maybe if they toned that drama down it would have worked better
Can't wait to see Alien Romulus.. I forgot how good the special effects were back in 79...Great vid.. Thanks for the updates.. I gotta watch these again!
The reason why Ripley had the xenomorph gestating in her for so long is because it was a queen chestburster and the queens need more time to gestate; that's why the dog/ox got impregnated because a royal facehugger can implant both a queen and a drone to protect the queen before she "hatches"
Fun fact: Most of the wide shots of the xenomorphs in alien 3 are actually practical puppets that were filmed and then superimposed into the scenes, however due to the time constrains on the release of the movie, the special effects team did not have as much time as they needed to properly make the scenes look convincing, which is such a shame.
It’s almost hard to believe that you went your whole life not watching any of these. BS or not, great video, and THANK YOU for not hating on 3…I love that movie and I don’t get all the hate.
Someone else might have already answered this but I was always under the impression that the alien embryo growing inside Ripley in alien 3. Had a longer incubation period due to it being a queen xenomorph. Great video mate!
Alien 3 it's actually one of my favourite in the franchise. Great set, interesting setting on a space prison, no guns, the grim atmosphere, cat and mouse game xenomorph and the ending that gave meaningful arc
But ruined the arc of the previous film (and it's characters) to get there. Killing off Newt and Hicks unceremoniously just served to retroactively make Aliens worse.
FUN FACT: In Alien 4, Sigourney Weaver actually made that blind basketball shot in one take. So the other actors surprise reaction was genuine. Unfortunately the camera wasnt zoomed out enuf to show it was all legit cuz they never thought she could hit it.
To answer your question the reason the Alien 3 Xenomorph took so long to hatch was because it was a queen like you saw at the end of alien 2. Which is why Ripley felt the dire need to sacrifice herself or the queen would almost guaranteed wreaked havoc and a new hive would start. Which is also why the xeno spared her, not because there was any basic alien In her but because it knew it was becoming a queen and it would be completely counterintuitive to their purpose of living to kill a possible queen, which their only goal in living is literally too spread like a virus. Also the poster picture for the film is a picture of the chestburster queen which is why it has the frill on its head.
Kudos for the Prometheus praise, I know it's not what a lot of people like or expect especially with how much fox loves their alien. I'm seeing Romulus tonight should be fantastic with fede at the helm
Great review, and i'm glad you enjoyed watching them! I'm sure someone else has answered it, but the reason in Alien 3 that the alien stays in her much much longer, is that it is a Queen Alien (they did say it in the movie, once, and it is kinda hard to hear) so it takes a lot longer for it to grow inside to be ready to "hatch", but I also believe it can decide when to come out. Hence why it jumped out of her to try to escape once Ripley jumped into the fire.
Alien, Aliens, and Alien: Isolation were all inspiration behind the making of Alien: Romulus. And yes it's that good if majority whom played it place it next to those two as best in series. ps Alien is S tier all day everyday.
Those shots of the Alien in 3 are actually a puppet composited in. It’s a really ambitious effect and not just for its time and it probably would have looked better if the post production wasn’t rushed and if Fincher had more control over it. It hasn’t aged great but I like it for its tenacity.
The scene in Aliens where Ellen finds out that her daughter already had died and they gave her a picture of her very old, is heartbreaking. But the Sentry gun scene ( omitted in the theatrical release ) is for me one the most tense scenes in the movies, the ammo counters just keep going man.
Worth noting that the lore of the franchise is very muddy, but David did not create the Xenos, he only reverse engineered them. They pre-date David by a VERY long time, evidenced by the murals on the walls in Prometheus and the ancient alien ship with a cargo of eggs. The actual origins of the Xenos are still a mystery.
"Vasquez, you ever get mistaken for a man? ", "No have you?" gets me every time. Romulus has so many easter eggs and canon references. I stopped counting after 10 minutes. First one i spotted was the nodding bird desk ornament.........
Let me just say this. You are spot on with the best. AI characters, because all 4 of them are spot on, I will have to respectfully disagree. I think 3 and covenant should be lower character choices and endings, but prometheus definitely went up for me. After I reevaluated it recently, and yeah, Rigley, scott knows how to make an incredible looking film, and I felt that moment in the end of prometheus 15:55 It still has a few flaws, but nevertheless ridley.Scott, they'd pay much homage to the first alien.
I loved Alien3 when I watched it at the theater back in the summer of 92' and love it just as much today. It's not my favorite film of the series but definitely top 5. I don't agree with your rankings of the series but that's ok! It's nice to see a different perspective of these great movies.
Heeeey, a fellow (and rare) fan of Alien 3. Such a beautifully dark and dreary flick with great acting, incredible music and set design. Love it. There's a fan-made 4k cut coming out in October that improved the CGI stuff. Looking forward to that. OH and I think the reason the alien took so long to gestate is because it was a Queen. That was my thinking, anyway :)
See I liked the third alien for it’s characters and setting the only thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of and I think was why the low rotten tomatoes was the cgi for the alien that’s it otherwise it was a great movie I just didn’t really like the cgi but great setting
@mr.invisiblegaming8760 it's technically not CGI (look up what they did, its actually pretty neat... it just didn't work so well), but yes, it looks terrible and takes you out of the movie. Apparently, they managed to improve it for the upcoming 4k cut. Dunno how much or if it's even possible to improve, but I can hope :)
I just finished Romulus, I really hope the director and the cast get some recognition because the movie is so great! A refreshing love letter to the first ones, a bit slow sometimes but brilliant overall
I got to experience the original in theaters for an anniversary event. Worth every penny. Resurrection holds a special place in my heart as a standalone 90s monster movie. I have to give Prometheus another chance. Unfortunately it just wasn't what I wanted from an Alien film at the time
Aliens is probably my favorite movie of all time. Just the story of redemption from the first movie was beautiful. Don’t trust Androids, grow to trust Bishop. Ripely loses daughter but finds Newt. Goes from a fearing victim of the Aliens to their destroyer. Fantastic 👌
Didn't even saw the video yet but I see Romulus in a tier on it's own. One of the best movies I've seen and surprisingly better than all the others in the saga
In alien 3, chestburster took so long to hatch because it was a Queen inside of her. Royal facehugger planted a queen inside Ripley, that's why it took so long to hatch. In alien 4 (Resurrection) Ripley is a queen as the queen chestburster she had inside was taken out of her and it had her DNA. When "Newborn" guy was born from queen, as Ripley had queen DNA the "Newborn" Killed Queen as Ripley was his mother because she had Queen DNA. (Idk if u understand but i can explain it to u better)
there was a cool detail in alien 3 where the reason there was no guns in the prison at all was because Sigourney Weaver suggested it while also just being anti gun. (she was then seen firing guns in a shooting range with the directors) from what i can recall.
fun fact: The alien effects in alien 3 aren't CGI at all. It's a puppet that was shot against a blue screen and inserted into the film. The results weren't great but I think you can definitely appreciate what Fincher was going for. In the assembly cut of the film (2003), there is a CGI shot of the alien chestburster which looks dramatically better imo.

I think putting Prometheus over the original is a crime my guy
I‘m curious which version of Alien 3 you have watched. Because the assembly cut is about 30 minutes longer and gives some characters more screentime. Many fans prefer it over the theatrical cut.
Its interesting to note that despite David's claim that he has finally created something (a thing that Synthetics are not supposed to be able to do), he did not in fact create the Xenomorphs but he did ultimately alter its evolution. I suppose David is satisfied with at least that.
I know art is subjective but it hurts my brain on a visceral level that Prometheus was put ahead of Alien. I cannot fathom this. I also don't get how Alien isn't S Tier.
@toegrit some people don't get it, many younger folks don't understand suspense or the art of older movies. Opinions vary of course, I'm of the mind that Prometheus was a very good scifi movie, but an absolute disgusting desecration as an origin story for Alien, the bs Ridley pulled on the whole "engineer" race was mental in light of what was clearly portayed as the anatomy of the Space Jockey.

Alien Covenant: objectively I have to give it a 6 (but honestly I would give it a 4, because this movie could have been so much more!!! It was a big disappointment, since I had some expectations after Prometheus)
Alien Romulus: 8.5 (one of the best in the franchise, for sure)
Alien: 9.2/10
Aliens: 9.5/10
Alien 3: 6/10
Alien Resurrection: 6/10
Prometheus: 8.3/10
Alien Covenant: 6.5/10
Alien Romulus: 9/10
Not disagreeing Just my tweak...
I have not seen all of the films, but one addendum:
Alien 3: 6.5/10
Alien 3 Assembly Cut: 8/10
I do think that the alternate cut improves the movie tremendously.
Anyway…
I was not ready to get sent back in time 15 years too early UA-cam at 0:44
AI is 4/4.
Winona Ryder: "What am I a joke to you?"
The 'Assembly Cut' version of Alien 3 is a whole grade up from the theatrical version. Pretty much puts it in a tie with Romulus in my book.
Yes, apart from the ox birth. The alien was more dog like in behaviour, so they should've kept that bit.
I don’t think it rules at all, and I don’t think the return to roots was a great idea for that movie.
Alien 3 is boring and no characters are likable. The effects suck and the whole movie feels pointless
I think the biggest issue people have was killing pretty much every other character from Aliens in order to get to it. It takes away from Aliens, in order to deliver the plot of this one.
I am 1 person who agrees with you here! I still love this movie, the killing off at the beginning was sad but still enjoy it
This is how you stop kids from being a astronaut
alien 3 didn't use any cgi, apart from the scene where the xenomorph head explodes. the aliens in this movie are actually most of the time puppets filmed before a green screen and later added to the scenes.
Was going to say the same thing. The reason it looks bad is because they didn't properly match lightling between the puppet and live plates. Also you're getting that classic black line around the puppet that comes from compositing different live plates. But you know thing looks bad, It MuSt bE CgI.
Alien 3 looked like bad CG before bad CG was everywhere! Ahead of its time
Technically they used blue screen with optical compositing and they rotoscoped out the rods used to move the xenomorph puppet. Ironically, they could probably make the visual effects look a lot better if they replaced the puppet with CGI.
Wow someone who actually likes Alien Covenant? There's not many of us.
Covennat was a good sequel of Prometeus, and I love both, btw, however I believe that it was a pity to not see all the things that happened between movies; the massacre of the engineers and the tortures from David. The off screen recreates a kind of terror, which is cool, but splicit terror would be better
Thank you for giving Alien 3 some love. It’s so underrated!
so refreshing to hear that someone else likes prometheus. i feel people went in expecting and wanting something different than what Scott intended. seen romulus opening night, Fede needs to carry on the Alien franchise with Scott’s blessing and obvious involvement because that movie was great, i typically don’t react/speak to films when i watch but romulus made me audibly say “nope” multiple times. him making the cast young and untrained made their decisions and mindsets a ton more believable. i give it a 9/10 or an A+ on a bad day and an S on a good day. your list is very similar to mine too
The idiocy of alot of the characters didnt help this film.
It would be several times better if crew acted at least slightly logically, not like "hey, look, alien egg that is moving, let's put my head into it" 😀
@@Pidalin So you did not like alien aswell? Cause the alien egg thing was there aswell
For me it would be:
S tier - Alien, Aliens
A tier - none
B tier - Alien3, Romulus
C tier - Prometheus
D tier - none
F tier - Covenant, Resurrection
The reason it took so long for the alien to chest burst out of Ripley in alien 3 was because it was a queen chestburster
Aliens 10/10
Romulus 9/10
Alien 8/10
Resurrection 7/10
AvP 7/10
AvPr 5/10
Alien 3 3/10
Covenant 1/10
Prometheus 1/10
Great video. It’s nice hearing someone be genuine about these movies and a lot of your clips made me laugh. Keep it up man!
@@SnoTangerineyeah them not continuing the David storyline oin Romulus was so disappointing
crazy challenge of watching them all and ranking them. Good Job!!!
Thanks!!
I strongly disagree with the Prometheus ranking. But I respect the love for Alien 3
alien 3 slept on man...
There is nothing that bad about Prometheus. But Alien 3.... It's the most insulting sequel I've ever seen
@@DyliciousTakes alien 1 is like a 1/10
@@FrcsWolfweek bait
@@Zilliguy im serious lol, the movie is super slow, 58 minutes in th movie and we still havent seen the alien
Awesome video! would love to see your take on the Harry Potter series and Planet of the Apes.
5:29: Fun fact: With me being an airport ramp agent (the guy that loads bags, ect.) the APC in Aliens is nothing more than an aircraft tug with a plywood body kit added.
I know this is not popular opinion but Alien3 is my favourite from this franchise and this is my favourite movie of all time. 10/10
Sigourney Weaver a goat ngl 🐐🐐🔥
Das babe😍 for life as far as I’m concerned
A female lead done right
I call Alien Resurrection a hamburger sundae. It's what happens when the director of Amelie and the writer of Buffy make an Alien movie.
But Alien 3 is too dramatic maybe if they toned that
drama down it would have worked better
Can't wait to see Alien Romulus.. I forgot how good the special effects were back in 79...Great vid.. Thanks for the updates.. I gotta watch these again!
the effects were insane!!
No AvP ?!?!
really great video 👊
The reason why Ripley had the xenomorph gestating in her for so long is because it was a queen chestburster and the queens need more time to gestate; that's why the dog/ox got impregnated because a royal facehugger can implant both a queen and a drone to protect the queen before she "hatches"
Fun fact: Most of the wide shots of the xenomorphs in alien 3 are actually practical puppets that were filmed and then superimposed into the scenes, however due to the time constrains on the release of the movie, the special effects team did not have as much time as they needed to properly make the scenes look convincing, which is such a shame.
The Queen Xenomorph embryo has a much longer gestation period, that's why it takes days to burst.
It’s almost hard to believe that you went your whole life not watching any of these. BS or not, great video, and THANK YOU for not hating on 3…I love that movie and I don’t get all the hate.
OG Aliens is epic and Prometheus was incredible! You sold me, i gotta watch Romulus .... btw great music choices!
Hope you enjoy it! and thanks!!
now that's a satisfying alien tier list
Seen all of these many times. My favorite franchise by far. And in my opinion, your list is spot on.
W vid bro. This makes me wanna watch the movies. Should I watch all of them or is there a select few?
up to you honestly, I'd watch the ones from a tier upwards for sure.
@@DyliciousTakes thanks
That should be the funniest thumbnail I've ever seen in all the years of my life.
It was not in one take. It was dozens of takes.
Bro your channel is so underrated. You deserve more followers
Great video, great takes! It was hard to see Prometheus ranked higher than the original Alien but disagreeing is part of the fun !
Great video and great list!
This guy should play alien isolation
is it good?
@@DyliciousTakes a real but clencher!
I have never been so happy to see clickbait, Aliens in F teir had me worried was glad to see it deservedly be in S teir
It was a class move to be fair! 😂
I completely agree with your Alien 3 take, but Prometheus over Alien is wild to me...
That was my thinking, anyway :)
that's awesome! i'll have to check it out when it comes out
See I liked the third alien for it’s characters and setting the only thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of and I think was why the low rotten tomatoes was the cgi for the alien that’s it otherwise it was a great movie I just didn’t really like the cgi but great setting
@@interdimensionalsteve8172 I looked it up and I didn’t know that, I thank you
I just finished Romulus, I really hope the director and the cast get some recognition because the movie is so great! A refreshing love letter to the first ones, a bit slow sometimes but brilliant overall
Great video. Keep it up refreshing to see other creators' opinions
Thank you! I will!
I've been looking forward to seeing Alien: Romulus ever since the teaser trailer. I am super hyped, and I hope I can see I can see it this weekend!
19:55 it’s not the nostromo. It’s a completely different ship called the Romulus, hence the name of the film “alien Romulus”
Actually it's the Renaissance space station. It's divided into 2 sections: Romulus and Remus.
I really liked your ranking of the Alien movies, I think Prometheus and Romulus are great films.
You deserve a sub for dropping this video.
I breathed a sigh of relief when you said you liked Prometheus! 😅
Watch Romulus in ScreenX and it blew me away. One of the best space movie experiences I've ever had. Crazy immersive
love the song choices here, didnt expect badass for covenant lol
I’m just happy that Romulus did well. It means the chances of us continuing to get good Aliens media is still good.
Fantastic 👌
Aliens > Alien > Resurrection > Romulus > Prometheus > Covenant > Alien 3
I think this is a pretty accurate list. Completely agree about Prometheus
New vid! Lets goooo
1. Aliens
2. Alien
3. Alien: Romulus
4. Alien: Covenant
5. Prometheus
6. Alien 3
7. Alien Resurrection
My ranking
Alien 9/10 near perfect
Aliens 9/10 near perfect
Alien 3 5/10 Medicore
Alien resurrection 1/10 one of my least favorite movies
Avp 5/10 Medicore
Avp 2 2/10 awful
Promenthus 7/10 good
Alien covenant 6/10 not bad
Romulus 8/10 great
I like your ranking!!!
YES!! Same!! I also like Alien:Romulus!!!
Nice to see someone finally not just shit talk the prequels
Man I just discovered your channel and it's fantastic, your reviews are on point, but, I'm not from the majority that dislikes Prometheus, I think that movie tried something new and it worked for me, a lot of great stuff came out of that movie, STILL !!!
Man loves people who can't run sideways while the dude from Tropic Thunder wise cracks from the ship.. I mean seriously, better than the original
