  • Hello, this is Hamster LAB
    (This video is the first video. The hamster was well raised in the soil for 6 months by supplementing many problems such as soil collapse and cleaning.)
    I finally made the natural cage that I dreamed of!
    I still have to grow more soil and plants, but I'm really excited that the start is halfway. I found that it takes a lot of trial and error and information to develop from a single cage to a naturalistic cage and a natural cage!
    I don't know what effect it will have on hamsters, so it's still being used as a ranch!
    Please look forward to the natural hamster cage in the future!
    햄스터에게 어떤 영향이 미칠지 모르니 아직은 방목장으로 사용중입니다!
    앞으로의 자연 햄스터 케이지를 기대해주세요!

    If you ever do this again, I would recommend watering the soil and using some sort of roller or weights to help stabilize the soil. Then, after it dries introduce the plants and hamster. More stable soil would make for more stable tunnels/dens.

    • @dericksmith2137
      @dericksmith2137 2 роки тому +694

      Even simply allowing the habitat a month or so with watering and plant growth. That would help the soil settle.
      But yes, a bit of compacting would have made sense.

    • @MyLuggage12345
      @MyLuggage12345 2 роки тому +328

      Yeah, in addition to compacting, just giving it time for the soil biota to develop (mostly fungi) would go a long way to stabilizing it.

    When I had hamsters as a kid, I would often take them outside to explore on the lawn or carry them in a shirt or jacket pocket. One day, two friends and I took Peanuts to "The Sand Pit", a steep 60 ft high hill of sand", about a quarter mile from home. It was a favorite neighborhood hill for winter tobogganing. After just a few minutes of exploring the sandy hill Peanuts began to dig and was gone from the surface in seconds. My friends and I frantically dug with our hands and luckily caught up with Peanuts, about 16 inches below the surface and managed to retrieve him. Didn't know hamsters could dig like that. LOL

    btw if the grass roots spread that will keep the soil more sturdy, plant roots hold the ground more firmly in place which is one reason many animals choose to dig burrows under bushes and trees, also for the shade.

      Also why its smart to avoid a ledge of a hill overlooking the ocean. Because the overhang can give way and you'll legit end up falling down a cliff... the compacted soil and plant life hold it up. Can be a meter or so out that's just grass and maybe a foot if soil. Got a few ppl in my home town while didnt realize and they tumbled down onto the rocks...

      I really hate how pet stores market hamsters like literal toys. They make all those crappy colourful cages shaped like castles and hell even a freaking DINOSAUR just to grab attention from children. The child will only ask for the hamster just so they can have the cage, they have no interest in the hamster itself so the poor things will suffer, it’s a really disgusting practice. I really hope someday we get better laws regarding care standards for small pets so we don’t see these garbage cages on the shelves anymore. Germany and the UK have really amazing care standards. The rest of the world should be doing the same.

    We took in a Syrian for the last 8 months of his life, he was rescued from a boys room by a friend of our daughter who saw him neglected, and she didnt really want a hamster but took him out of there for his sake, then gave him to my daughter. He was our first hamster. A very tidy little fellow, fun to let him crawl around on your lap, and fun to watch run around on the floor. We didn't use that ball thing, we just made sure he couldn't get out or in anything and he went scurrying around. Very cool. Eventually he fell ill, even though we gave him the best of everything, and he died in my hands. Rest in peace, Tony Tissue Paper.

    By creating a natural environment for your rodent it teaches kids how they would act and live in the wild. Adding safe plants allows the rodent to eat healthier and offers them what they'd have in the wild.

    yess! this is exactly what i do for my hamsters. They prefer the soil to bedding, as it gives them the illusion they are in their natural habitats. I do provide another cage with bedding, but i add lots of natural things such as sticks, seeds, and just general stuff you’d find in the woods.

    The little hamster is so adorable popping through the other end of his tunnel with his little face all covered in dirt. Not to mention, the image of his little bum and tiny tail as he digs further into the tunnel. So stinkin' cute ❤

      @Crow Many years ago, when I was a child, my pet rabbit changed her fur color twice a year. She was brown in summer, and white with brown "points" in winter. That seems to be the natural, white color plan, for camouflage. Snow Shoe rabbits go completely white in winter.

    It looks so weird being dirty digging in dirt and its because im used to seeing them in cages with that generic material people always use. Idea: a porous bottom for the tank so you can periodically allow a "rain" to come and condense the soil, discourage mold from stagnation, encourage rhizomes to spread out, and circulate moisture. A catch basin for the water would of course be a must. Brilliant work, I want hamsters again
