1 accelerant is always part of my traveling kit; for when you've been mauled by a bear, caught in a blizzard, fell into water, and you need that fire yesterday.

The Bearskin Bedroll in 'mediocre' hurts my soul. Most useful and game changing single item in the entire game, no doubt about it. Don't want to freeze and die in your sleep in a dank cave somewhere? Neither do I, which is why you never leave home without your bearskin bedroll.

@@pinchpeak5203 Not at all true. Caves get too cold in an early morning blizzard (before sunrise is coldest). You could go to sleep warm and a blizzard could suddenly kill you in your sleep in a cave before you wake up. The bearskin bedroll is much warmer and can prevent this from happening. It will save your life.

Things that are incorrect or I disagree with:
    1. Can Opener should be "useful early" as eventually you run out of canned food and once you are cooking 3 you can just smash open as who needs tons of random empty cans?
    2. The first matches you put in Kit are actually cardboard matches which do not exit on Interloper as you can only get Wood Matches
    3. Cooking Pot I'd put as Top Tier as it's one of the few items you can never have enough of. On my old Loper save I had 14 Cooking pots (most sitting at my main base) so I could cook up weeks worth of kills and water all in one batch on a sunny day and maximize the number of items I could cook with the wood duration
    4. You should really put the different skill books in different tiers as ones like Gun skill books are completely useless and others like Mending are probably the best to find as it saves resources vs failed repairs to level
    5. Zap Energy bar does exist on loper
    6. Firestriker I'd put as top tier as once you are level 4 fire-starting it gives you 100% with a stick without needing to use the torch trick. Also in terms of lights per weight it is far more efficient than matches
    7. Flares I always keep one in my kit as emergency wolf deterrent. I normally prefer to use a torch or shoot them with my bow but they can be useful if it's windy and you have no other choice. I try to preserve them as long as possible
    8. I craft a hatchet but I almost never use it and it sits at my base. I carry a hacksaw around for cutting sapplings since it is lighter and the hammer can cut everything else except scrub bushes and super big limbs (which I never cut anyways as it takes way too long) and it is the best wolf struggle weapon
    9. I keep my knife at my base as I harvest by hand and just use the knife for crafting
    10. I would put the Jerry can in the "base" category as it's useful more than just early on as you'll always want it when you go fishing and for refueling your storm lantern
    11. Bow & Arrows should be game changing because once you craft these it literally changes how you play the game
    12. Ski boots don't exist on interloper
    13. Snares as Terrible? Yeah sure you can stun rabbits with rocks however Snares produce rabbits from literally thin air. You harvest broken ones and get the reclaimed wood back and they produce the guts you need for them meaning you can craft them indefinitely. You can have an entire rabbit grove filled with snares and catch dozens of rabbits every day which is kind of OP. I would put it in Top Tier no doubt.
    14. Sticks are part of your kit to start fires but they actually have the 2nd lowest Burn-to-weight and Heat-to-weight ratios with only Books being worse. You'd be better off carrying around loads of Cedar or Reclaimed wood for fire duration as their weight ratios are 2nd best after Coal
    15. Rocks are useful until you get a bow and then you can just aim an arrow instead of a rock with the torch so I put it as useful early and then I get rid of them as not worth the weight
    16. Torch trick is only needed below level 4 fire-starting as level 4 use firestriker for 100% and level 5 use match for 100% (obviously if it's sunny just using the mag lens) Unless you are chaining torches you should really only carry one late game for potential wolf deterrence as they are heavy

I agree with all your points, much more accurate then the video. Thanks for saving me the time to reply with this list. On my latest play through I havent even bothered with the improvised hatchet. I will probably make one to have at my base on the second forge run. Using a hacksaw is easier as you can repair it with metal and save sharpening stones for the knife. With the hatchet/knife you end up just crafting more as you need when you run out of sharpening stones, also note on having a knife on you is that it will be used to open cans instead of your hands at cooking 3, so you can just drop it open can then pick it up again. Quick note on fire hardened arrows, they are amazing for leveling your archery, and killing Ptarmigans as you can shoot a whole flock without any flying away.

I find the snares pretty useful during snowstorms because you pretty much should just sit tight but setting up a few snares at your closest hunting ground and shuffling back before exposure. My food stockpiling is very variable so it's not too useful unless your stockpiling furs.
Either way, automation is the first step to escape survival into thriving.

    • @ICountFrom0
      @ICountFrom0 2 роки тому +3

If you could craft snares anywhere, they'd be higher. As it is they represent weight you have to carry away from the workbench. If your current base is setup at a workbench, you might save enough time and effort to be worth placing a few traps.
Question is, how many worthwhile base sites have both a workbench and a nearby rabbit patch AFTER the updates...

    • @TheCommanderFluffy
      @TheCommanderFluffy 2 роки тому +1

@@ICountFrom0 that is a good question! They might become even MORE impractical.
I happen to carry as many snares on me as I can as I move place to place using them as my inv dump item. I create caches of them in places I can sleep out a storm. Uses a lot of extra planning.
I think a workbench rework would be a good idea, where you can still craft outside of one at pretty big resource and/or time sink, to the point where not using a workbench is normally impractical and wasteful. This wouldn't include all items as some would still require the workbench, just that some things that are pretty easy to make wouldnt.
Et voila, snares are something you can make in a 10"-10" cabin in a murderous snowstorm.

Honestly, the humble lump of coal deserves to be in game changing. It's a common, abundant item, yeah, but having coal completely changes your game plan compared to not having it. Obviously, you need it to forge, and you can defeat any amount of cold by just starting a fire and popping in one or two pieces of coal. I always keep coal on me because of that, it's worth dragging along a little excess weight for the security of knowing I always have a backup plan against the cold.

I'd have thought that the noise makers would have increased the value of gunpowder from just an accelerant. I can only assume that it's just not worth the trip to blackrock to learn how to make a noisemaker. Maybe once all the loot tables are redone and there's a chance to find them (and thus learn to make them) everywhere, it might be more useful?
I'm not sure I agree with leather at camp. On the other hand the other option is to uncraft the satchel and recraft it and that takes huge amounts of time. So I probably SHOULD agree, I just have issues with spending what I see as a limited resource.
Bearskin VS Moose cloak Vs Wolf Vest I'm glad this is still well enough balanced that there's room for debate.
One pot vs two. I could see a facetious argument for SIX, but at base only, if you make camp routinely where there is a 6 burner stove. Personally I've got to get better at traveling lighter, I clank too much, I stink too much, and I THINK too much.
Can opener. You say it stops being important late game, but it's just that little bit important for long enough that it's not early game only? Part of me wants to try a run where I never carry a can opener and see how that works out.

    • @Zisteau

While we're talking expansion. Fire Hardened Arrows. Bow and arrow before the first forge trip. Game changer, or just a way to make loper easier to start?
I'm expecting a lack of bleed damage on them. Still if a lucky shot might get you a wolf or a deer, knowing you have the hide cured and you can do the forging and the crafting in a single trip to forlorn...
Speaking of dedicated trips, with the craftable crampons in the DLC and the travois will that reduce the pressure on getting the real crampons and the technical backpack? Trailer is showing possible other locations for a technical pack in the new content, possible that going into the new zones and taking that backpack while making your own crampons a possibility?
I'm honestly curious what the in game function of the walking stick will be. Travois is enhanced carry capacity while using up your hands, walking stick seems to be + walking speed in exchange for using up your hand. But that's functionally the same thing, except you can easily drop the travois...?
One of the pictures shows a red version of the storm lantern and another flare gun case. I remember when the dependable flaregun location was down a rope into a train car. Then pop a stim and climb right back up. Use a stim, get the flares. There's 5 locations now. Chances for more in Hushed River Valley. Shifts the mindset that. Flare shells age and won't fire at 0%, that shifts things more, as he said. Gets you to use them. Another shift in view.
Viewpoints and mindsets in the game shifted at least a bit with every update. Now we're going to get some big ones, a year of changes.
    I'm looking forward to it.

You can find a pair in a backpack in the ice caves to the east of Hushed River Valley. You can even find a hunting knife or combat pants and earwarmers inside hidden cache boxes in that same cave system, you can also find wool shirts in corpses along the region (not to be confused with the thin wool sweater and to my knowledge Hushed River Valley is the only place you can find this piece of clothing). I've done some testing and you will always get one of this items, you will either the hunting knife of climbing socks, they are in different backpacks and only one will spawn. Try to start in hushed river valley for this reason, it is not that much for a warm bonus, but you wont find something better than the wool socks or the thin wool sweater in other regions (at least to what i've experienced).

Crampons for example is very important to avoid sprains on Misery with Broken Body, sprains can cause condition loss and that's a permaenent condition loss in Misery if you get sprains. Archery book more important than the other ones because you fire an arrow or craft arrows far less than cooking, making fire, or sewing.

Your first red flag should be where he calls the combat boots "Terrible." Sir, you may not find their trade-offs worth it in the long run, but if you can't even give them a rating of mediocre I am confident you're talking with your feelings and not with your facts.
