- Philodendron Types: Rio vs Brazil
In today’s video I am going to show you the difference between philodendron rio and philodendron brazil. The rio, also known as Rio Sport, Philodendron Silver Stripe, or Philodendron Cream Stripe, is a fairly new variety and often gets mistaken for a Philodendron Brazil. As well as showing you the similarities and differences between these two philodendrons, I’ll also be showing you how to divide plants as I divide the Rio. Philodendron Rio and Philodendron Brazil make awesome house plants are some of the easiest plants for beginners. Be sure to watch to the end for a fun surprise!

Did you get past my horrible singing?? I hope so! Let me know if you are excited about the Rio!!
I will listen to you singing all day, if you'd be willing to swap Philodendron Rio cuttings with me! Seriously :-D
i realize I am pretty off topic but do anybody know a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
@Rocco Walker meh I use Flixportal. you can find it on google=) -zane
@Zane Malik Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!!
@Rocco Walker glad I could help xD
Thank you, Rosetta! You made that look so easy! I really appreciate the way you show that plant stuff can be done in the middle of real life!
I always feel so much better after watching your videos with all of the green around! Love your channel and that you made it work even with the kids home!
Valentine Lister - Twin Flame Tarot Healer that is so sweet. I’m glad to hear that 🥰
I hate to tell you, but your plant is a silver stripe philodendron 😬 the rio is its own plant and is extremely rare. It's an entirely different sport from silver stripe. Cream splash is also it's own sport, as is the "gabby". So in all, there are 7 differnt variegated herderaceum, Brazil, silver stripe, gabby, cream splash, rio and variegated brasil.
Miss Plants thanks for taking the time to get this straight! I would love for you to point us all in the right direction. Can you help me out? Is there a resource we can find? Thank you so much!
was thinking the same thing, doesn't look like a rio.. plants are so often mislabeled but the rio is pretty unmistakable when it's the real thing.. gabriella plants had rios, they are a much more elondated leaf with a cream & blue-ish variegation
She i
you are spot on...👍
That is not a Rio though. It's a Silver Stripe. Rio has silver as the centre variegation, then green/cream outside of the silver.
That’s what I wanted to say! This looks nothing like my Rio from Gabriella Plants. Rios do not have the lighter green.
I have a Brazil and it’s starting to finally get big, I also have a neon one it’s really cute
I love both my Rio and Brazil, but you're right, the Rio has a certain something that I just love! I'm going to be propagating mine soon from cuttings. Your's looks great! New subbie btw.
I have a Micans in the mail and a Rio being purchased soon. I'm so excited!!
Ooh. I don’t have a Micans yet. Lucky you!!!👏🏻
I loved the opening! Singing is always good. I also love these big leaved indoor plants. I'm not good with plants, but I decided long ago, it's better to have them and replace them when I mess up, rather than not have them at all.
Fiona Flyte YOUR singing is good. Lol. I totally agree. Have them. Experiment. Enjoy them. You’ll likely learn some things along the way. That’s how we all start and learn. 💚
I love those plants too!
I saw the Brazil first and fell in love! Then I saw the cream and I was like you What!!! Thanks for the video
I just found a Rio at the grocery store!! I was so stoked!
Searched for months for a Rio, and ended up finding one at Kroger of all places, when I wasn't even looking.🙃 Great video!!!
Yesss! I love those Kroger gems! And at the most reasonable prices!
I’m on second 8 of your video and I’m already subscribed lol you’re so hilarious!! And your voice is adorable!! ❤️
Oh, you are so nice!! lol. I'm so glad you are here!
I just ordered my Rio, I have two Brasils and more propagating. When I saw the Rio I knew I would have to have one. Philodendrons and Pothos are some of my favorites. Thanks for sharing your Rio.
They are some of my faves too. So easy and so rewarding. Thanks for being here!
Love your energy 💚 (also when I googled philo rio yours was the first video google directed me to! 🙏🏻)
Now I know the difference between Philo Rio and Brazil. Very informative video❤
lol your singing wasn't horrible. thanks so much for sharing this video with us!
RajivRamanAuthor well, thank you. Maybe not horrible. Certainly embarrassing.
Haha love your intro! 🤗
It's Bhumi lol. 🙊
Thank you for this!!! I have a couple of house plants to split and now I feel like I can do it without killing them. Have you don't a video how to split a zizi before? Or should I just move them up to biggest pots when they get too big? :)
Sarovara Yoga that would be a great video. You can easily split a ZZ! But they don’t mind being root bound. If you are wanting two plants, go for it, but I let mine try to bust through the pot before I repot/split.
So cool!
Leila Ricciardo thanks!0
I just found you and I am delighted to subscribe. Just one question; why didn't you just propogate some cuttings?
Already im subscribe 👍 i like your channels my regards from Indonesian 🙏
I have a philodendron brazil and when I got it, the store marketed it as 'green and gold plant' so I made a guess and assumed it might be a golden pothos since I had no idea what a philodendron brazil was and then when I found it, everything just clicked.
Wow I just may have both varieties 🧐 I need to double check that.
CrystalRenèe 420 oh, cool!
I bought a Brazil today,I think. It has 2 tone leaves 3/4 yellow and 1/4 green leaves. Is it Brazil? The leaves are heart shaped. Some leaves are solid yellow
I’ve not seen the rio before 👍🏼👍🏼💚🌿 I definitely have the the brasil
iddybiddyladybug Leeza I love them both!!
Rosetta Grows my brasil seems to be turning to a lemon lime color 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll have to snap a picture & show you on instagram
iddybiddyladybug Leeza huh. Yeah, show me!!!
Rosetta Grows tagged you
Eeeeck just in time for emy budding plant addiction!!! I want to repot my fiddle leaf fig any advice?
Liz Brousseau hi! they like to be root bound, but if you go up, just go up one size. Make sure there is plenty of drainage! If you just purchased your FLF, I would wait a bit before you repot. They can be finicky.
Is there a different on their stem? I have 2 plant been told its a brazil but one pot have reddish pinkish stem and the other one just a regarding greenish yellowish in colo.
So whats the one you separated if it isnt a rio
Beautiful!
So is the Rio the same as "(Brasil) variegata", "(Brasil) cream splash" and "(Brasil) silver stripe" ?
Ayla Aurora Poots I’m not sure about Brazil variegata, but yes I have heard cream splash and silver stripe used for Rio.
Rosetta Grows I was wondering about all these names too, I’ve heard silver streak used for Rio, but what about the gabby? What’s that one for?
@@plaingal79 I think I kinda figuered it out.
There's a bit of a rounder (Brasil) formed one which goes by Gabby / cream splash / Brasil tricolor variegata (??)
and one a bit more narrow which is Rio or Silver stripe
I think....
Ayla Aurora Poots @plaingal79 Yes. I agree. It’s a different variation altogether. I think it is more like a Brazil - rounder leaves, more bright green foliage. The variegation seems to cover more of the leaf. It’s interesting to see these greenhouse/growers experimenting and developing new variations! What is next?!??
Nope they are all different plants!
New subscriber here...just got one I suspect was a Rio and am confused. I still can't tell the difference.
Hi!! Welcome!! I am so glad you are here. Mostly it is in the edges of the variegation and the shape of the leaf. Reach out with pics over in Instagram. I'll be happy to help you out!
I think I have a Rio but, thought it was a Brazil/Brasil!!!
Hai... I am from Indonesia
Its OK I'm pretty sure all of are messy planters;) #plantmama or papa life! Ur funny thanks for some tips I do exactly what u do sometimes I get ready do it again if it start to fail.. Hey I got jars of water every corner of house😄
hmm never really compared them before lol
Vivian Johnson they are super similar!
I think I almost cried
Really?! Why?? Do you have a Rio?
Rosetta Grows yes haha but watching you split it. Nothing you did. It was beautiful before and now you have two.
I almost cry ...why ? Im obsessed with the brazil need a back up and I"ve never seen the philo Roi 💝💝💝 .Just shared the video 💖.
* Philo Rio 💞💞💞
😂 is your sweater inside out or is it the design? I knit and crochet a lot that’s why I’m curious. Was the label posted as a Rio? Please be careful with Perlite, try not to breathe it in when dry. It has glass particles.
Like a what?
#rosettasings
Sean Henry lol. Yup. 🤦🏻♀️
Not a rio. It is a cream splash/silver stripe
Silver stripe, and Brasil, ese no es rio
Yours is not even a Rio. Maybe a cream splash
