The 'cream splash' leaves you're showing on your brasil are actually just lighter/sunbleached leaves. Cream splash has distinct chartreuse bordered by white/cream. You can tell them apart by the crisp line between the sections. Lighter/bleached brasils will have the chartreuse center faded to what can be confused as 'cream'. You can often see a fading/ombre in those sections as well.
And also the leaves of the true 'Rio' are having a more arrow edge. Is that because it is on the moss stalk or does it indeed have different leaves than the 'Silver Stripe'?
I've recently learned about these philodendron after buying a sun-bleached brazil. The way you can tell is if those leaves where like that when you bought them (fading to lighter cream) and then in regular light at your house they became true to color with new growth. Also, I recently found out that there are two forms of silver stripe. One that is more powdery/silvery and one that is more lime green in the stripe, but both have cream also. I have both actually that is why I found out. I also have a Rio from Gabriella plants. All three specimens are elongated, slightly differently. I've heard there are two forms of Rio as well. One more green and one more blue. 🤯 I am trying to get the Gabby (cream splash with high variegation) to compare to all of the ones I have.
@@sarahpea7782 Shane from Gabriella Plants has actually personally confirmed that there are NOT two forms of Rio and the difference in color is just due to growing conditions - which makes total sense. Unfortunately someone has been trying to make "blue form rio" a thing as a marketing scheme to get more money from buyers who don't know better. I've never heard anything about two forms of silver stripe either, this also sounds like it may be related to growing conditions.
Yep! I have the Philodendron Brasil, matter of fact I have a couple of them I struggled with it at first however I have learned not to overwater it and they are thriving!
I just bought a Brazil rio cream splash silver stripe I swear it has all those different leafs I was going crazy trying to identify it . Thanks for the info girl you know yooo stufff
Ahh! I was so excited to see a Green Acres tag on your Philodendron Brazil! I just got a Philodendron Brazil from there yesterday and saw a lot of cream splash variegation, which lead me to your video since I was curious about all the different variegations. You broke down the differences very well. Thank you!
Thanks! I have bought Philodendron Scandens 'Brasil' online 1.5 metre high and because of watching this I have now known that I've got more than just 'Brasil' but also 'Rio', 'Silver Stripe', 'Cream Splash', and 'Lemon Lime'! Some leaves have pink-colored stripe in the middle too omg it's so fun! I examine every leaf every day. I wonder if I have to split it up to propagate based on the different appearances. I live in The Netherlands btw
Thx so much for such valuable info. Your philodendrons look gorg. I'm a newbie trying to soak it all in. I hadn't heard of Gabriella Plants so I Had to check them out lol. I bought a beautiful jade pothos, which I haven't seen before, so Thank You! Love your channel girl 💚
They are particularly hard to tell apart when they are constantly being mislabeled. They can also revert. I received a Rio cutting which is actually probably a silver stripe and all the new growth is completely green.
I've been sold so many plants that were labeled as Rio, which were definitely not. One of them reverted on me too! I just stuck it in the my regular green philodendron pot and called it a day hahah
Hello from Puerto Rico!!! First timer on your channel and just subscribed. My channel is in spanish but can be captioned. Thank you fir this important information. I’m only missing the Rio. 💚🐩🙋🏼♀️🪴
Okay but Ima start off with the philodendron brasil was easily a favorite of mine since i first ever saw it! I have yet to get one and I love how the heart shaped just green one and lime one look! I just love the look of them and this video literally was it! You now made me want the brasil trailing and staked up on a moss pole! It looks beautiful both ways 😭 thank you for this and adding more info and love to my new obsession with this plant! Def will come back to this video to tell the difference when i get mine and to just rewatch because yours are lovely! 🌿 easily seeing I am inlove with emerald green and different shades of green because of this plant 🥺 its just beautiful. Do they do good in a more lower light setting? I try to give my plants light when I can but I have migraines and tend to keep out the really bright sun coming in during attacks. Ugh either way I cant wait till this baby is in my plant family 🥺🌿
Here because I think I just saw a HUGE pot of a philo Brazil at a shop mutate to cream splash :O they're asking 30-40 and I thinking of going to go back and get it.
Great explanation! I bought a philodendron brazil a year ago and now all the new growth look like what you described as the cream splash and silver strip. Is it possible for the plant to mutate like that as it matures? Thanks for your help!
Love This video thank You so much 😊 I bought what I thought was a brasil and it looks like a combo of cream splash and a Brasil. 🤷🏾♀️ but this has helped me know I definitely don’t have a full brasil or a brasil at all lol 😆 it’s definitely a cream splash for the most part.
I still not sure what I found yesterday at supermarket for 16$ , Not Brazil either Rio Stripe or Splash but they are selling for that much for cuttings now tfs
Some leaves of cream splash has silver in it like silver strip too. Which is really hard to spot the difference. Also a lot of seller online list them as cream splash/silver stripe like they are the same. But they are not so I try to avoid buying from those seller and buy it from the name they listed/the variegation
Rio is a sport of Hederaceum, regular green form aka heart leaf. I believe gp states it sported from brazil to protect their pending patten. When you DNA sequenced these cultivars, you can see they are all phenotypes (aka descendants) of the original species Hederaceum. Cream splash is also not a cultivar. As of yet, it's simply a heavier variation of the silver stripe until someone can truly stabalize it and go through the trouble of having it registered as an official cultivar. The brasil has three different forms, the Rio has two forms, and the silver stripe has two forms. Each of the forms of silver stripe have sported into a "cream splash", as has brasil, hence why it seems sooo variable :) hope that helps!
Nice video. However variagation is never totally stable in plants. The K can always revert back to even plain green. I am confused how you can call a whole plant a different variety when only one or two leaves show a difference? Just like in the hosta world...teonidentical plants with juat one slight difference can be called another name..it gets to be ridiculous "technically "
I totally agree, the plant that was originally sold to me as a "rio" has definitely reverted to be more like a cream splash, which is a much more common form. I wouldn't called one or two leaves in a pot a different cultivar (in the video, I was showing it as an example of what that variegation would look like), but it is usually described as a "sport mutation" or a "sport variegation" when that happens. The cultivar name gets ascribed to a plant once it has been propagated for a few generations and the variegation has remained stable and consistent.
Hello, your video are amazing 👏 I love your philodendron rio sport and silver philodendron. Would you please share me some cutting from each of your plants? I'm in Southern California. Please let me know. I'll pay for a cutting. Ty😊

@Sarah Pea all of that is correct! I rarely come across others who have knowledge of the multiple forms of each cultivar, especially the silver stripe

You broke it all down girl!! Great job👏🏽 I have absolutely no questions about identifying the difference plants after this video.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad!!
Wow so much variation I didn't know that, Thank you for such details

Finally a helpful video more people need to see this
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
You explained the differences so well!!! Thank you so much!!! I almost bought a "Rio" which is actually not a Rio at all! Thank you so much!
I just purchased the Philodendron silver stripe. It is so pretty.
Absolute best explanation of the differences between these plants....I think I finally understand! Thank You.
Thank you for the clarification and showing such great examples. They are all gorgeous.
Glad it was helpful!

Great job explaining the difference between the plants! Thank you! 😄
Great explanation of the different sport varieties and how they came into existence. Thank you!
This is such a helpful video! Thank you!!
Just found your channel and this was sooo helpful! Thanks for breaking it down so easily! Now I know which one I’m really searching for lol.
Thank you!!

So useful to know!!! Thank you!!! I’d love to see more videos like this where you are clarifying the difference between similar plants 🙌🏼
will do :)
You always do such a great job explaining the differences. Thank you so much for helping us understand better.

My brazil is also mutating to cream splash. So happy cause the cream splash costs a fortune over here. Thanks for the informative video....
Always on point! 💯
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!! Now off to stare at my leaves 😂
Thanks so much for the clarification. Now I know what to look for. Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
BEAUTIFUL. Thank you for displaying and explaining
Thank you for educating me, now am on the hunt for the Rio! Excellent information.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! You’re wonderful!
Love love your energy, very informative too! Thank you! 😇
Thank you!
Thank you for explaining sport variegation! I've seen that used a lot, but never got it until now
Happy to help!
Tfs... I’m confused between the rio and silver stripe. I just bought a like green today though. Love your attitude!
She's saying rio has silver in the middle then cream then green and silver stripe has cream.silver green I hope that helps

They are considered low light plants, but the variegation becomes so much better with more light!
Here because I think I just saw a HUGE pot of a philo Brazil at a shop mutate to cream splash :O they're asking 30-40 and I thinking of going to go back and get it.
Very informative! Thank you🍃
ahhh this video was sooo super helpful! lol thank you! :)

Yes, it's a mutation so absolutely. Normally, called a "sport variegation"
Philodendron Rio does handle southern sunlight well. Despite all the silver and creamy white colors,... it doesn't burn in strong light.
Very well explained
Thankyou!
So in short has to have some kind of silver stripe on the leaf in these varieties(except brasil)...please correct me as I'm still learning 😃
Sometimes Brazil gets that "fake white" from sunbleached leaves. You can see the white looks thin like the leaf is wearing away in those spots.
I still not sure what I found yesterday at supermarket for 16$ , Not Brazil either Rio Stripe or Splash but they are selling for that much for cuttings now tfs
SUPER helpful!!!
Great info. I had no idea there were so many varieties
Glad it was helpful!
Wow the Rio is the prettiest to me.
Wondering where you get your info from?
Needed this video
Those cream splash pieces are where the sun hits the leaf.
Idk if you mentioned but would you say the care is quite the same as Brazil? I'll be recieving silver stripe on Saturday. And cream splash soon! 😬
Exactly the same!
What is the little pot that is brown on your top shelf with the stripe???
The plant? It was sold to me as a Rio, but it's definitely more like a cream splash. It's currently being grown in LECA!
Some leaves of cream splash has silver in it like silver strip too. Which is really hard to spot the difference. Also a lot of seller online list them as cream splash/silver stripe like they are the same. Where did you find your silver stripe? I’m in Ca too, but don’t ever see it. Great video too btw!
The Secret Garden in Elk Grove!
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you also for replying so quickly 💜🍃
Any tips on landing a rio from Gabriella plants?? I’d love one and it seems like they’re super hard to get on their website!
join the fb group! They mostly release rios in ghost updates, and people will post when they see plants being updated!
This plant don't grow so well for me.. idk what yall do you get them to trail.. please tell me 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
I have a Philodendron Brazil,carnival sport
I love her way of describing the plants. Sounds like an weather anchors. But she's talking about plants... lol 💜🥰
I learned a lot from your video you are very good at explaining you also speak very clearly thank you have a good day

Thank you for explaining me about that philodendron...I did not know about..nos is me cleare..
Thank you for watching!
I just want to know how hardy these are because I am HORRIBLE with plants.
Muy bueno

Hello, your video are amazing 👏 I love your philodendron rio sport and silver philodendron. Would you please share me some cutting from each of your plants? I'm in Southern California. Please let me know. I'll pay for a cutting. Ty😊
Slow down and speak more clearly. Couldn't stand more than a minute of listening to that.
