I have mine in a south facing windown and its new growth the yellow comes in a pinky orange at first and then calms down into a bright yellow. Its stunning.
Good advice as usual. My experience with my P. brasil is that training it up something seems to have supercharged its growth. For about a year it was growing along okay in a hanging pot, but when I started tying the stems up a trellis it suddenly started growing like I had moved to...uh...Brazil (okay, bad joke.) It gets a grow light along with some very dappled direct sun, needs watering about every four days or so. I would caution newbies that you can't take anyone else's watering schedule as your own. For some reason my plants watering needs rangers from every three days to every ten days, depending on the plant, size of pot, location, etc. Just got a humidity meter to see what's what and it's telling me my level is a pretty consistent 45%-50%, so my place isn't exceptionally dry. Use a moisture meter and within a few weeks you'll know which of your plants is ready for a drink and when. (Experiment with a small humidifier showed a 10% increase a couple feet away. the effect was, of course, temporary.) There will be a major issue with repotting it...dealing with four or five foot vines, and disentangling them from their supports looks to be a chore. I'll probably trim it back to a manageable length...and Oh boy! More P. brasils to lounge around my flat. Had a piece break off and it rooted in water in days. I'll add a moss pole of some kind at repotting, as I think plants with aerial roots do better with something for those roots to grab ahold of (don't we all?) Be ready for Tarzan in a couple more years!
I love my new philodendron Brazil. Thanks for the help. One hint about purchasing. It grows fast so don’t buy a plant that’s too big for your intended spot. Smaller is better for this baby.
This video came up on my feed at just the right time. Mine was dropping leaves like crazy and now it looks so sad. I cut all tye bare stems off, put it in brighter light and now I will br more careful with my watering.
😎You are my absolute favorite go to guy to help me care for my plants!!! I'm in a new home meaning I have tons of space and tons of light and no experience... I'm doing great thanks to you!!❤❤❤ With love from Boston, Massachusetts🇺🇸
I had mine hanging directly in my east facing window and missed to water it a lot. Amazingly it did very well. It wasn't my first choice of a plant but it is very reliable and tough plant. It's like pothos. Brazil and my neon pothos are growing together in the same pot. They compliment each other nicely.
I got a medium sized one a few weeks ago. Been leaving it alone until now; gonna stick it on a moss pole as it's in need of a repot also. Cannot wait to grow a Beast! Thanks for great tips!
Just bought a medium sized one this evening that is already root bound. I will try to keep it in the grow pot another month while it acclimates. This info is extremely helpful. Thank you.
The Philo Brasil is definitely one of my favorite plants. I loved the first one I bought so much that I had to get another to take to work. I just really love trailing philos.
Dude, I literally just got this plant and this video was the first thing when I opened UA-cam 😂 perfect! Always love your content, very informative indeed!
I love the details. Great video. 👍🏼 I am going to go and check my largest brasil and inspect the leaves and propagate again. I love how easy this plant is.
I absolutely love all the colors you use in your home to decorate with… I’m hoping you have a home tour video… I’m going to search after this video for one! If you don’t have one posted, may I suggest that for a future video? I love to see how people use houseplants in their home decor, where they place the plants, how they decorate with them, what colors they use with them, etc. Those are my favorite videos to watch! I love the plant care videos as well… But my favorite, probably because I’m already versed on plant care mostly, is where they’re placed and how they look in peoples’ homes.😁
Don't have a Brasil but picked up a Malay Gold from Dobbies on Friday reduced to £6.49! Also grabbed one of those gorgeous green orange's after seeing one in your video, it became a total wishlist plant!
Another great one Rich. Thanks. I have the same soil as you but I was going to add some bark to the mixture, this video is 2 yrs old and I was wondering if things have changed? Peace.
🙋♀Beginner plant parent here and I just want to thank you for making such informative and easy to understand videos! Whenever I search on a topic, if I see a video from your channel listed, I always choose yours first! I was wondering, does Philodendron Brasil need distilled or rainwater instead of tap water? I live in the country and have well water. It's hard water and we don't use a softener. I was curious is this would be okay to use? My Heartleaf Philo doesn't mind right from the tap but because the Brasil is variegated I wasn't sure. Thanks for any help!

@@SheffieldMadePlants I saw somewhere that a long stem has less chance for rooting because more leafs disconnected from the mother plant = more opportunity for drying out? Nice looking plant 🥰🥰 I'm thinking 🤔 about getting one witch one do you recommend for lower light like a north face window 🪟? I was thinking about the all green 💚💚 heart shaped one 🤔 What are your thoughts 💭 please and thank you!!! You're my plant teacher I trust your advice!! 🌱🌿🌵🌻🌼🍂🍁🌸🪷🌷
I've just found your channel and am enjoying watching through them all. Can I ask what you mean by regular compost? Do you mean garden compost (the big bags from garden centres) with perlite or proper houseplant compost with perlite? Many thanks.
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thankyou so much! Garden compost is so much cheaper and I already have perlite. I have so many rooted cuttings to pot up as I can't resist propagating all my plants.
I have two brazils and I absolutely love them! I have propagated them and planted the babies into another pot but have noticed it is growing like crazy. HOWEVER, all the leaves are not even a quarter of the size as the leaf I used to root! Could this plant already be outgrowing the pot? Also, I have beautiful coloration having it on my kitchen mantle about 15 feet from a north facing door. But, the leaves are very dull, should I fertilize? Lastly, I would like to see how large I can get the leaves so and trying to encourage them to climb. Is this a good idea? I feel like I am constantly tying the vies because the ariel roots are so tiny and not reaching out.
I have a beautiful Brasil but am curious about some of the leaves growing now are mainly that yellow/light green color with a hint of blush. It is in a corner of a bathroom with both south and west windows, but with trees now leafed out, so no hot full sun. Would you have any idea what is going on?
Is a South facing window ok if I have shears* up 24/7. Most of my plants are in that window and as long as the sheers are closed they are ok. Thanks for your time
Just what I was looking for, really helpful tips👏🏼👍👍. Do u reckon the care for mican is similar to brasil where it likes to dry out between watering too?
Mine is losing some of it's beautiful varigation. So much for South facing windows. If I move it closer to the window will the vibrant colors perk up? It's a big plant to be moving about. Thanks!
Hi, I bottom water the philodendrons until the soil is totally moist. It took about a month until the soil was dry enough to water it again. The pot is 17cm, has drainage holes, mix of soil and perlite. Should I change watering method? I mean almost a month is too long wet for the roots right?
Not necessarily. As long as it's not saturated and the plant is fine you're all good. I bottom water too although I probably water mine every couple of weeks
@@SheffieldMadePlants , thanks for the quick reply! Then I will continue to water the philodendron like I do now (also advise from one of your videos :)). The soil is not saturated and I dont see any other signs as yellow leaves. Except that the grow was stopped, but it can also be that the plant has to get used to its new place since I just bought it. Thanks for all the videos with tips!
I have a crazy question ❓ I purchased a plant labeled neon pothos about 3 months ago...I started noticing new growth but the leaves coming in are a reddish orange, not yellow or brown. I used my goggle lens and it says I have a heart leaf philodendron. Is this possible? Please let me know

Curling up suggests to me that it’s drying out. How’s the soil and roots?

Once variegation is lost, if the plant is given more light will the leaves get the variegation back?
