Putting a punctured, leaking battery back into a ipod...is the comment section not entirely comments about how huge of a fire danger this is?! It literally says never to do this directly on the battery.
Those two contacts that allow you to choose slave or master, are stabbing your battery from the bottom of the board. I'm surprised it hasn't caught fire.
.hey hope you don't minde if I highlight few thing man !you should never plug the battery first , always plug the bat at last , and you should isolate between the ide convertedrand the metal sheet that is underneath the original HDD ,
Hello there! Im goin to do the same restoration that you did on the video, same 3rd gen iPod. My question is, do you think you can use a higher than 1200mah battery on it? I've never heard anyone using a bigger capacity battery for this type of device. I know you can use 3000mah on 5th, 6th and 7th gen iPods bit on the older ones I have some doubts... Thanks man!
The NW-HD5 looks like it uses a similar drive to the iPod so I would guess that you can do this kind of upgrade to it. You should only have to get a card to convert the ATA100 port to the compact flash style, but I cannot confirm if that would work. Good luck!
Memory compact flash is extremely expensive so you can buy and SD to compact flash adapter instead. iTunes has a limitation of 256gb for iPods for what I know.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this generation iPod can only charge over firewire and has to sync over USB since it needs a power source which comes from firewire. I cannot test this since I don't have a firewire port on any of my machines.
I did this mod and it worked great until I power down the iPod by holding [PLAY]. After powering down, I can't turn it back on without having to do a reset by pressing and holding [MENU + PLAY]. Anyone else have this problem?
Hello I have a problem with Ipod classic 3G It starts showing to connect the cable for a short time and then turns off. It won't even manage to connect to the computer, which means I can't do anything Please help.
Hey man, I just bought one of this just to swap the hdd with a micro SD to CD adapter as cf memory but turns out that none of my computers will recognize it, did you have this problem?
I follow all the tutorials and It never works for me. I’m upgrading the same iPod with an SD card in CF adaptor. Every time I get to the restore screen after it’s done it says the iPod will reboot on its own and it never does. When I force a reboot the iPod shows the folder icon on its screen. I’ve tried multiple iPods and multiple SD cards.
"I've tried multiple iPods and multiple SD cards" Okay, but that isn't the only component you used is it? Try a different adapter as mentioned above, or, get rid of the adapter and use a CF card directly
Sako's Tech Spot it was something youbdidnt make sure of....you habe to makebsure it is properly slid in not touching metal....dont do it quick tho....i just go some advice there
Sorry about that. I do agree that it was loud in this video. I've been trying to work on making it more subtle. It's at a much lower volume in recent videos. Thanks for the feedback!

I was thinking the same thing!

I'm happy you kept the attempts in the video - shows us what to look out for
at 4:09 he became dankpods
Will the 3rd Generation support more than 32GB?
Well, mine has 128GB and 30 some currently filled, with no signs of problems. Hope a month later ain’t too long for ya to wait on that.
@@PriestessPaula Thanks!
Of course - skys the limit - there was a video where someone put one terabyte!! (using two 512GB cards in a dual microSD-to-CF adapter)
Is 128gb work in 3th generation?
.hey hope you don't minde if I highlight few thing man !you should never plug the battery first , always plug the bat at last , and you should isolate between the ide convertedrand the metal sheet that is underneath the original HDD ,
It lives!

Yeah, you should be able to use any size battery as long as the output power is the same and you can fit it into the casing.
Can this be done with other mid 2000s mp3 players, such as Sony NW-HD3 and NW-HD5?
The NW-HD5 looks like it uses a similar drive to the iPod so I would guess that you can do this kind of upgrade to it. You should only have to get a card to convert the ATA100 port to the compact flash style, but I cannot confirm if that would work. Good luck!
@@SakosTechSpot Thanks for the information and your reply!
Hey i have the same ipod what's the most capacity that I can put on it?
iTunes supports up to 128GB without any tweaks to it.
Can u go with a bigger memory compact flash?
Memory compact flash is extremely expensive so you can buy and SD to compact flash adapter instead. iTunes has a limitation of 256gb for iPods for what I know.
Quick question! Why is it that I can no longer use firewire since I converted it to a ssd?
Jake Salazar Are you trying to sync through FireWire or charge?
Just to sync with Firewire. Even though USB works fine, I prefer Firewire and its faster speed lol
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this generation iPod can only charge over firewire and has to sync over USB since it needs a power source which comes from firewire. I cannot test this since I don't have a firewire port on any of my machines.
Nah you can charge AND sync over Firewire, USB is more for compatibility for people who don't have a firewire port on their computer.

Plastic component on the board on one side that’s standing up was keeping it from closing it even put a dent in the back case

Do you have a Firewire cable? This model needs a Firewire wall charger. USB is only for syncing

Ucelo do you have the y split cable?
@@stephenwitmer90 sadly no, i´m planing on getting a 4th gen ipod instead, its cheaper than buying the stupid cable.

it's aliiiiiiive!
JB talks Resurr erection!
How about for the 7th gen is it the same
did it corrode after restoration
So far no! It might have been a bad board? Pins contacted somehow? Who knows! Works now though.
Sako's Tech Spot how do you make sure that it is not a bad borad?
easy to fix ipods..imma get one soon!!!!!!!

It's kind of a guess until you install it. I don't think there is any other way unless you have special tools.
Dude, your battery exploded because the pins from the master/slave jumper poked a hole in it.
thats very cool...that you can convrt hard drive to flash memory
i want a retro ipod classic 3rd generation from 200e
2003
he put the batt in the cheaters way and use flash boards
