So recently I wanted to buy an ipod classic just cuz. Didn't know there was this whole market for them. Bought a few broken 4th and 5th gens, and I must say, fixing them up/flash modding them is FUN. There's something about it that's incredibly satisfying, and I love having these bad bois as dedicated music devices. Not only that but like. I'm gonna sell a couple and will probably make a substantial profit. Such an unexpected new hobby lol. Your website makes it all so easy man, thanks for what you do
Also, for the record, the thin 3000 indeed fits in a thin 5th gen w/ iflash quad. She's SNUG, but she fits
Thank you for making this! Very informative.
Thanks for this! I misunderstood the requirements when I read them and got the thin 3k for my Iflash Solo 6th gen upgrade, now I know I have to get the 2k square to get it to fit. I'm getting the rainbow backplate and it only comes in thin size. Here's to hoping someone develops a bluetooth module specifically for these old Ipods! I'm not skilled enough to put one out of a transmitter into my Ipod like I've seen some people do, I'm just gonna get a 30-pin bluetooth adapter.
Nice do enjoy buying products from Elite Obsolete Electronics

Can confirm that I got the thin 3000mah battery from the EOE website to fit with an iFlash Quad in a thin (30gb) iPod 5th Gen. BUT - the ribbon cable was on the wrong side in my battery (compared to this video), so I ended up having to fold the ribbon cable in half to get it in properly. Covered the folded area in some kapton tape on both sides, which should give everything some extra insulation in case the fold weakened the insulation of the ribbon cable. Overall quite happy!
Textbook install, nice work!
Thaaaank you sooo much for this 😊👍🏼
great info here, thanks!
i heard of you from dankpods the you tube channel
thank you for selling those parts ♥
i ordered an iflash dual micro sd adapter (new model?) and then just saw your video. i wonder if the 3000mAh battery will fit.. thank you for effort and making such informative content!
Perfect advice. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hes back guys
great video, gave ya a sub
Do the cables for the rectangle 2000 and 2800 mah (you show the pics at 3:20) bend back over themselves to connect to the iPod? I worry that such a sharp 180 bend would risk breaking the ribbon.
Love the Vid Nice Video
Any plan to post what batteries work with the new generic dual micro SD adapter you offer now?
I have recently gotten into iPods and I really like the idea of updating them. I saw your store and I would love to buy one but they seem really expensive.. are you doing another giveaway soon?
very informative, thank you very much, can't wait to do some more ipod mods, but since i'm here i might as well ask, how do you deal with really tight ipods that have never been opened before ? the first time using your method took me like 5 minutes but i recently encounter a fairly stock ipod and that sucker took like 30 minutes to get opened, so maybe you can share some wisdom ? pretty please !! second, would it be possible for you to do a video comparing the best ipods to mod, pros and cons ? thanks in advance !!!
Does the thin 3000 mah with a thin backplate work for 6 & 7 gens too?
Hey, just wanted to know what is included with the “New” models that are for sale. Looks like it’s just an old iPod with new front and rear plates. Do you get a charger too or will I have to find one? Really stuck between getting your refurbished or new. Also is the refurbished just have a new battery? Really excited to purchase an iPod from you soon (once I learn more) Thanks
Do you know which ones will work with those no name green cf to 40 pin adapters?
Thanks! I was needing a video like this. I'm waiting on a 3000mah from Aliexpress, but I have a thin backplate.. I hope it's the thinner 3000mah :)
Can I use a large battery for the iPod classic 7th generation 160gb thin without changing the hard drive?

Hi!! Great video!! Very well explained, but What battery Can be used in 5th or 6th whit HDD?? I have a 5.5 30gb and a 6th 60gb both of them whit HDD still working!!! Thanxs
How exactly should you adhere the battery? Put it as far to the left on the back case or tape it to the iflash?
The heat of the battery does it effect the board or memory???
hello, I want to know thin ipod Classic can use thick iPod Classic back plate & headphone cable or not
In the Quad what SD cards did you use, I have 2 Quads I can not get to work. The iPod classic 7 gen works with the hard drive., but not the Quad's I have tried different SanDick 128GB.
just bought a nano from you!
Came here from Josh and subbed.
i love it
Thank you !!
ur welcome
Hey dude, is there anyway to get headphone buttons to work on the 5th gen? I love my 5th gen that i just replaced the battery in, but the one thing i dont like about it is my headphone buttons dont work
The only thing I want to know is what battery good and will last longer just only for music?
whats the best for ipod gen 5 video? biggest battery and how much memory so it can work great?
Need to ask, do u think iflash quad + 2000mah square battery + bluetooth transmitter can fit on thick 7th case?
I purchased the m.SATA and I’m wondering what I’ll have to do to get a 3000mah battery into my 30gig. I ordered the thick back with all the components attached, so I should be able to do a swap, I just don’t want to touch parts like that unless I absolutely have to!
There is someone who sells 5.5 gen iPods in metal 7 gen shells. I am trying to decide between transparent front 5.5 shell despite unfortunately being unable to find a matching transparent rear shell, and a metal green 7 gen shell, but I am not actually sure what is involved with placing them in the 7 gen shells. The green metal front plates don't seem to be offered with thick rear plates like other colors of the 7 gen shells. I am also planning on upgrading mine with wireless charging, and Bluetooth, and so I expected to have to drill a couple small holes in the rear case for that. I read somewhere that the 5 and 7 gen swap much better than the 5 and 6, but I think the 6 and 7 were also possible. Can you do a video explaining 5/6/7 shell swap situation.
so cool
I just received my shipment from you. The iFlash SOLO came with two rubber bumpers, but i don't know how to place them, or do I omit the one. Currently one is on the front plate leveling the SOLO board. What should I do next? Just use a kapton tape to secure the battery against the back plate? Please adv5. Thank you 😊
Is enough space there? inside the ipod if i replace only the battery but not the Hard drive..
Mine is classic 5.5g with thin back plate (iflash quad inside). I'm about to get thin 3000mah battery so it would fit in to my ipod. The question is do i need to adhere battery on the back plate of my ipod?
Can a thin model 3000 mAh battery fit in a thin backplate case with the OEM hard drive or do I need to get a thick backplate?
No link for reddit post at 3:00 in the description :(
What about the old monochrome ipods with IDE?
Alpha dank poder ! 😂
I had a peak on your website and I see a 3,800 mAh battery on the picture it says 3.8 volts and the iPod would charge it to 4.2 volts if I’m understanding that correctly so wouldn’t it expand and turn to the Samsung note 7 from over charging or what’s up with that
Hey nice video.
Your other video helped me a lot with the installation of my 3000 mah battery
Thanks a lot.
Question
Now I have enough power for days but is there a way to fast charge your ipod?
I am using a regular phone charger now
FireWire
Can I use a large battery for the iPod classic 7th generation 160gb thin without changing the hard drive?

That moment you try to put your battery in and its too wide and you just got your iflash ssd in yesterday.
Bad luck in my case I bought the 3800 mah LOSONCOER thinking it would be better.
I am thinking of modifying the ipod that I have, exactly, it is the "iPod classic (160 GB, late 2009)" - A1238, it can still fit the iFlash Quad, or it would be better to return the battery I bought it from Aliexpress.
I just realized I accidentally purchased an iFlash dual instead of a quad for my 7th Gen iPod classic. Based on your video it appears I won’t be able to install an extended battery, would an original oem size be the only one that would work or would I still be able to go higher?
do these batteries fit in a non modded ie "original hard drive" ipod 6th gen thin? my hard drive still works and less then half the capacity why would i swap it out lol.
Thanks a lot for this video! I'm currently in the process of upgrading a thin iPod 5th gen. I first wanted to buy the iFlash Solo, but I guess I'll have to buy the iFlash Quad in order to fit a bigger battery (2000 or 3000, am I right?). Cheers from France!
hi i\m having issues charging my ipod, my ipod is unable to hold charge even if its a new battery
Nice
I was wondering if you could help know which of the batteries will fit a thin backplate with the generic dual SD adapter that was on your website.
I just updated the generic dual micro as deep product page description with compatibility info
Cool video. I was thinking of getting the dual version but you said it’s not that good can you explain why?
There's nothing wrong with the dual version. I suspect the issue is simply that the dual occupies slightly more space and therefore limits your choice in aftermarket batteries when using a "thin" back plate. Also, with price of SDXC cards falling while capacities are rising, perhaps the dual is less relevant.
@@Lonesome_Loser may know which battery are you using with the dual??
Hi EOE
Big fan of yours I’m about to upgrade 3 of my iPods!
I have a working 160GB drive from the 7th gen so it’s a thin one.
I wanted to know if I can still use it with the 3000 thin battery and a thick backplate on my iPod 6th gen
Thanks!

Will an Iflash quad + 3000mah thin, fit in a 120gb iPod classic ?
If I was going to buy a thick back case for the bigger battery, would the thin back headphone assembly fit inside of it or would I need the thick back one instead?
You would need the thick one the thin one wouldn’t work
I've got the thin back headphone assembly in my thick back and it works fine
I have an 160GB 6th Gen (thick version) with an iFlash Solo (128GB) and a 850mAh battery. Will the 3800mAh Battery from your homepage fit in there? I guess so...
GRREEEAAATTTTT
I flashmode the ipod classic 5.5 video tick back 60gb with thin 3000mha battery and iflash micro SD dual, but i have another one ipod 6.5gen 120gb with tin slim back case will fitt the 3000mha battery with iflash micro SD duo
Hello!! I have a question
If you don't change de SSD like having the original one, can I put the 3000 mah battery in a thin case??
Of course not, there is not enough space for it
i have an issue here
i have modded my 5th gen thin ipod (originally 30gb) with iflash solo 256gb sd card + 3000mah battery
i have been hold my ipod charged with my laptop for around 10 hours but the ipod battery indicator still stay the same actually lowered to i guess around 1% left
what should i do ?
Edit: i know why not look like it was not the battery fault
It's the prev modder fault because he look a little rough with the battery plastic socket
I will have to shill out my cash to resolder it oof
Does the advice for the 5.5 gen work for the 5th gen as well or is there a difference?
this advice is for iPod Video 5th & 5.5 and iPod classic 6th & 7th
purely out of curiosity> Let's say I got a thin backplate iPod, would I be able to put on a thick backplate to use a bigger battery and taptic engine mod?
Yes
Why does the iFlash quad work with the thin back/thin 3000mAh battery but the iFlash solo doesn't? Is the iFlash solo thicker than the quad? Also, if you have a "thin" 80GB 6th gen, can you put a "thick" backplate on it? Do all the clips line up regardless?
The iFlash Solo is thicker than the Quad, as the Solo uses full size SD cards as opposed to the Quad using micro SD cards. And I believe all the backplates are interchangeable between the 5, 5.5, 6 and 7th gens.
I know batteries expand. Is there a worry with the 3000 in a thin case? Is there enough room? Asking because that’s the only way I would upgrade to 3000 is keeping the thin back.
Did you ever figure this out?
You have a newer 2000 mah battery for the iPod Classic 3rd gen. Does it work the same (over the solo adaptor instead of under)?
Under
@@EliteObsolete Awesome, thanks very much! I look forward to the project.
So I finally built my first iPod. After running it for a few days I noticed some things .
Are the replacement click wheels not as responsive? Mine seems to need deliberate and firm circles, vs my stock one.
Also, having an issue wirh random intermittent track skipping. It’ll usually start with long tracks, like a mix. And skip a few. Then play. Sometimes album art won’t load, and sometimes when the album plays and finishes, songs then get stuck on zero. I had 26k songs in my 160 classic. But full id3 info. Didn’t check my database, just reformatted discs, and put less music. All the tracks play fine on iTunes and stock iPods. Currently listening to music and seeing if it persists. Only has 200 songs on it. And some artwork is being wonky : /
Gonna possibly try a new zif, and a new MoBo when I get one. : (
Could be the hard drive if it isn’t iflashed, I had a similar issue and I found out that my flac to ALAC converter was the issue, I was using the media human one, when I used a different one everything went back to normal. So if your converting to ALAC that can also be an issue
Mystic’s Entertainment I havnt been, converting. It just seemed laggy at times with the iflashquad. I was also having major intermittent skipping issues- which I THINK i resolved... still checking it out. But the iPod tjay was going to have that board initially, still has that clickwheel, and I put a 160hdd back in. It’s still kind of laggy, but not as much. I possibly could have gotten an ‘off’ one. It’s kind of hit or miss with the quality of the aftermarket parts.
Ok, so it took me like 3 purple click wheels to find a good one, and sandisk cards will skip in flash boards.
Using a Lenovo, I think it is.. zero issues.
Hi! Can I use a microSD inside an adapter with the iFlash solo?
You sure can
Do you know of a bluetooth adapter that would fit in a thin back with a thin 3000mah battery and an iflash quad?
probably none. the things you said are a really tight fit already
I second this. I tried it, and didnt have enough room in the thin boi
I noticed on the eoe store there is a 3800mah battery and im not sure wether it fits in a thin case or not.
It’s the same compatibility as the 3000 thin
What about the 4th gen?
Does all this advice also apply to the 6/7th gen?
yes
lol i am so happy
I have a 7th gen iPod 120gb I want to replace the hd to a iflash quad can I put a 3000mh battery on the original backplate or I have to use the aftermarket thin backplate?
You can use the original back
OMG I am your favorite
if i want to use a thick back cover on a thin gen 7 ipod classic model do i need anything more than a new jack flat cable? Are the stock clips on the front of the iPod compatible?
Yep, that’s all You need. Just a new headphone jack
@@EliteObsolete Thanks for quick replay. :) Now i am ready for my 3000 mah ipod. :)
can you use rockbox with those iflash boards ?

I don't understand why there isn't a single micro sd adaptor. It would be so much more compact.
With regards to 3000mah: I think maybe the last 4 # of the bottom number tell you which version it is.
It seems like your slim one is --5148. Not sure what your thick one is. I just got one today and it ends in --7445. It is supposedly 3000 mah and it is different than both of these. It's wider than both and because its wider it's shorter. It seems like it just barely clears the midframe prong height wise.
I haven't verified this number theory. Just guessing for now.
