    Your site is great! I just bought a condo in Annapolis, Maryland and I'm using all the techniques you demonstrated and applying them on fixing all the holes, scratches and attempted patchwork done by the previous owners. If the opportunity should arise, could you show the process of moving an already installed cable outlet on one side of the room, fishing it through the ceiling and down the other side of the room and the best way to cut holes and patching the ceilings? I love your site. Many thanks.

    Interesting. Because when I read through instructions of almost every manufacturer, what they say is that 15.5 gauge nails or staples for solid hardwood flooring (3/4 inch), 18 gauge for engineered with 1/2 to 5/8 inches thickness and 20 gage staples for 5/16 and 3/8 engineered flooring. If the flooring has a HDF core, then floating or glue down only. But what do I know, I am not a contractor. I just do DIY projects here and there.

    the builder of my house installed this factory finished hardwood flooring and it is so soft, that rolling a computer chair around leaves tracks in the floor :( dropping anything really leaves dents in the floor...im pretty sure she got it from lumber liquidators, and my dad always talked bad about that place to begin with. not to mention these guys made some kind of mistake or lack of care in the subfloor so everything squeaks, creaks , booms, and cracks when you walk around. it really is something for a brand new house built last year

The current original 2in hardwoods are installed parallel to the joists, but we keep hearing that we should run new floors perpendicular to joists. First of all, thank you so much for all of your content. Very informative and easy to follow. My question is about an engineered hardwood installation that we are about to start in our house. The house is only a couple years old and everything was finished with 3/4" solid hardwood as the determining factor in trim heights, baseboard heights, tiled hearth, etc. The new engineered that we are putting in is only 1/2" according to manufacturer. The dealer says it is a little less. We currently have 23/32 OSB as the subfloor. We are going to have to install 1/4" or 3/8" plywood (we'll know for sure when the new flooring arrives) to "raise the subfloor" to match everything. Finally, the question: How do we fasten/glue the plywood to the top of the OSB subfloor? What kind of fasteners, glue, fastening schedule, etc.? Also, the new hardwood is 7" wide and is recommended by manufacturer to use glue assist. What adhesive do you recommend for the hardwood?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 роки тому +1

      I suggest following my subfloor video as a guide to layering your subfloor. Glue assist refers to construction adhesive. you can get it in caulking tubes and simply apply a bead opposite the direction of the flooring and lay it in. I prefer to use staples with that type of product. only add a bead of glue as recommended by the manufacturer. Cheers!

    Hi, Some engineered hardwood are advertised as "click lock". Do you recommend installing those as floating floors?

    Where is the underpadding - underlayment??? Isn't there supposed to be a moisture barrier? I have one?

    Very informative video, thank you! :) Are you planning to upload a video about how to install hardwood flooring on floor joist? So there are basically no OSB boards attached / glued, the hardwood flooring is installed right on the floor joist :)

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  4 роки тому

      No, that would be weird since the osb is already a pre existing part of the structure.

      @@HomeRenoVisionDIY I am currently renovating an old house that has adobe wall, and the old hardwood flooring was installed right on the floor joist. I have to replace the old floor joist system and the hardwood flooring as well, since they are very old now. Do you always recommend to install OSB boards on floor joist, even in houses with adobe walls? The floor joist was installed on cob (rammed dirt), and I am worrying if I put OSB boards under the hardwood flooring, it won't let moisture to move freely, therefore all the moisture will be picked up by the walls, causing them to mould. What do you recommend?

    Does hardwood floors go first or do the baseboards? I ask because I’ve seen both ways done.

    great video. I have 2 questions, 1. when you use st Pneumatic Brad Nailer to stable your first piece, how you avoid Thermal expansion and contraction for rest pieces? 2. why there is no spacer to put on at the beginning of the layout?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  3 роки тому +1

      engineered flooring does not require as much expansion room. 1/4" gap on the long side is plenty the wood usually grows in the same direction as the grain!

    Hey Jeff, would you mind speaking on the way the pattern is suppose to be laid. Does it just depend on the eye of the installer or is it suppose to be staggered just at your discretion? Thanks and great video

    • @rob_over_9000
      @rob_over_9000 3 роки тому

      It would be more or less up to you how you stagger it. Wouldn’t ever recommend meeting four corners though, it looks very weird to me.

    Question: I own a 1966 tri-level and I want to double up on my (HORRIBLY messed with, unleveled subfloor) with the intent to help with soundproofing. Can I use felt in between layers and should I not nail the second layer to joists?
