I am a 21 year old man, and yet I’ve just become fixated with old-style chorus line routines. This really makes me wish there was a larger archive of the Tiller Girls’ performances.
Just watching sunday night at the london paladium.....tiller girls reminded me of when i saw them in the 60s then have to go to bed for next days school...very nostalgic...wonderfull ladies
My sister was a Tiller and now passed and I'm trying to find any girls from 1958 that may have known Cindy Hurst. I am Peter Hurst living in Nova Scotia!
My mum just told me my great aunt was an original Tiller girl! So I Googled it and here I am 😊 I found out because I was bragging to my mum about what a good dancer I am and always have been (I'm now 52 and can still bust bare moves) I asked her if I got it from her (I grew up with my dad abroad so didn't know much about her) so she replied that she too is a good dancer & is still "really flexible" (she's 82!!) & still "has great rythym" then proceeded to tell me about my great aunt being an original Tiller girl. So I'm super proud to find out, it's most definitely in the genes 💃💃
@@alejandroolas9497 I’m not sure. It was so many decades ago so I imagine it was big band music, like in the old black and white movies with the showgirls on stage and a band playing live.
I'm very impressed by women like the Tiller Girls and the Rockettes. You have to the precision of The Blue Angels to pull off dances and kicks like that.
Wonderful, this routine must have been exhausting to perform, and the talent and discipline needed must have been tremendous. Is this what was known as ‘ precision ‘ dancing ?
Hi there... My mother was a Tiller Girl around 1953. Her name was Alma Honour and I know that shows were recorded and appeared on BBC TV. If anyone knows more, I'd love to hear.
Don't think it was the BBC. The Tiller Girls were contracted to ATV, part of a showbiz conglomerate run by Lord Lew Grade and his buddies. The BBC imitated the Tillers with an ensemble called the Television Toppers, who were regulars on the notorious Black and White Minstrel Show.
Thit is amazing , incredible ! How can humans beings act so precise and simultaneous like one machine ? That must have taken a lot of hard work and long hours of practice . I'm perplexed . Does this kind of show and groupe still exist and perform nowadays somewhere ?
Hi, the only show of it's kind now (that I'm aware of) is the Radio City Rockettes Christmas and Summer Spectaculars in the USA. I used to have a lot of other clips on my channel of both the Tiller Girls and Rockettes but sadly the rights holders started to become very protective of their intellectual property and I was forced to take them all down. If you search UA-cam for 'Tiller Girls', 'Rockettes' or 'Fernsehballett' you can still find bits of additional content that you might like.
Hello, my name is Michael Taylor, grandson of Phyllis Taylor, a Tiller Girl for several years. I have VERY little info about my beloved grandmother. If anyone has anything they may add to my understanding, appreciation etc of her, please feel free to write. Thank you
Heartbreakingly my mother was offered a job as a Tiller girl at 16, but her penfriend soldier (Dad) didn't want her to travel, so she never took up her place. She would have been in this show line up as a 21 year old.....she married him at 19 and was divorced by 26. Choices made at 16 are not always the best.....
My mother is Kathleen Wright. Did you know her. She was there too. I could put you in touch with her. She would love to talk to you of that I’m sure. I’m not sure how you can privately pass on details here. But let’s find a way. Happy days. My mother talks of them as hard physical work but such fun! Nicola
The routine was for The Crazy Gang Show, These Foolish Kings,at the Victoria Palace in1957. However this was for a German film, filmed during the day at the VP for one week (we did the shows at the same time) The music is different, and has been added after they shot the routine.
@@kerryholmes9713 really fascinating to hear from one of these girls so many years after - and what a beautiful body you had - explains why you were put into such a prominent position in the line
Moulin Rouge.
Other way round. An Englishman, John Tiller, invented precision dancing for big chorus lines. He brought a troupe to the USA where it inspired Russell Markert to found what became the Rockettes.
@esmeephillips5888 I just learn that this year. The Rockets are a 1925 knock of of the Tiller girls. I believe they were started in th late 1890's.. They're both terrific!
A wonderful time. And a wonderful white people time. And that’s me a black man saying that. People had respect for each other and each other’s cultures back then. And although the muslims were still slaughtering each other at least they were doing it in their own Muslim lands.
I am very Proud to say that I had two Aunts who were part of the Tiller Girls. ❤❤❤❤

Same here 😅
Same for me too! Memories hey?
My sister was a Tiller and now passed and I'm trying to find any girls from 1958 that may have known Cindy Hurst.
I am Peter Hurst living in Nova Scotia!
My cousin Elaine was a Tiller Girl in the 1970s. She was an elegant lady right up to the end. She sadly passed away in 2009.
So sorry. ❤
I have one word for this.....WOW!!!! That one-legged kick is what sold me. True talent for all of them.

Mary Kruger was a Tiller girl and just celebrated her 90th birthday March 25th in West Vancouver. Still giggling!
I was in London April of 58, How did I miss these girls. That looks like a very strenuous dance
My Granny was a Tiller Girl from Liverpool X
This is so beautiful ! I can watch this over and over....beautiful Tiller Girls ❤️ thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

Yes. John Tiller invented precision as we now know it.
If anyone is wanting to see this "vintage" style of dancing in today's modern society, come visit KC to watch the Kansas City Canaries‼️
Amazing 🤩
That's my Grandmother 4th from the right. She is 84 now and still fit
I know it’s a long shot, but does any of you lovely ladies remember Fanny Callow from Blackpool? She was my great aunt in the Tiller Girls, Ella
Stunning, shame we don't gt a better view of their lovely faces....thanks poster
Incredible precision awesome,! Thanks
That’s called HARD WORK AND DISCIPLINE! Jmj

Wonderful to see the tiller girls there were nothing lovely like them
A person had to be in better shape than a top athlete to perform a routine like this !!! 🤗
Insanely strenuous activity, super girls at the least...
I found myself looking for this after watching some of the women's Taekwondo at the Tokyo Olympics. I prefer this.
Goodness! Takesus back at least 50-60 years!!
My friend Vanda was a Tiller girl I would love to find out more information please

Only pro athletes can perform like that.
Thanks.

No wonder those ladies were all so fit. After a routine like that !

Super athletes
I though cloning technology came later than this.
Bet the Germans loved this.. it reminded them so much of their "Goose Steps."
omg

The "Rockettes" have nothing on the "Tiller Girls"........
Russell Markert of the Rockettes saw the Tiller Girls in the 1922 Ziegfeld Follies and was inspired to begin his long career in precision dance.
all white impossible today
If only Hitler's storm troopers could have danced like that, instead of their goose step!
